Premier League: Dream start for Sean Dyche

Image
Everton 1 - 0 Arsenal Sean Dyche enjoyed a dream start as Everton's manager as they stunned Premier League leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park. Dyche was appointed last Monday following the departure of Frank Lampard. The hosts picked up their first victory in 11 games in all competitions courtesy of a link-up between two men who played for Dyche at Burnley. James Tarkowski rose at the far post to power home a header from Dwight McNeil's corner to spark the sort of joyous scenes that haven't been seen since that memorable victory over Crystal Palace last season Everton had enjoyed much better chances in the opening period too. Arsenal were outfought for large periods and failed to find any rhythm, although January signing Leandro Trossard forced Jordan Pickford into a sharp save late on. The Gunners couldn't find the leveller and will see their lead at the top cut to two points if champions Manchester City beat Tottenham on Sunday. Full-time scenes Full-time SCENE...

Premier League: Dyche faces reality as Everton lose derby

Image
Liverpool 2 - 0 Everton FT. pic.twitter.com/oFCRPqJNTf ā€” Everton (@Everton) February 13, 2023 It was a derby day dream for Liverpool and a nightmare for Everton Mohamed Salah scored his first league goal at Anfield since October while new Ā£35m signing Cody Gakpo converted his first goal for the club in a comfortable victory against Sean Dycheā€™s relegation-threatened team. Toothless Toffees Without Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Everton had no major threat in attack. However, they almost took the lead through a James Tarkowski header that struck a post. This was 15 seconds before Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead with Jordan Pickford going awol in his penalty area.  Ultimately, it was very comfortable for Liverpool The game petered out the longer the half went on. Everton saw more of the ball but without being able to convert it into tangible efforts on goal. With 15 minutes remaining, Neal Maupay and Tom Davies joined the action in place of Amadou Onana and Dwight McNi...

Premier League: Simms rescues point for Everton

Image
Chelsea 2 - 2 Everton This could prove to be a very important point for Everton. Ellis Simms scored his first Everton goal to earn Sean Dyche's side a crucial point. They came from behind twice to draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Everton's improved resilience under Dyche was on show again. The 22-year-old local product Simms was the hero with a superb late equaliser to wreck Chelsea's hopes of a fourth consecutive win. Chelsea broke down Everton's resistance seven minutes after the break when the excellent Joao Felix drilled home a low drive. However, they were pegged back when Abdoulaye Doucoure scrambled home an equaliser from a corner after 69 minutes. The away side were only on level terms for seven minutes. Kai Havertz scored from the spot after Reece James was fouled by James Tarkowski. However, there was to be a late twist in the tale. Dyche had put Simms on to rescue a point, and he delivered in style with a powerful run and finish a minute from time...

FA Cup: Palace and Everton will go again

Image
Crystal Palace 0 - 0 Everton The FA Cup third round weekend started with a rather boring 0-0 draw between Palace and Everton. The game wasn't without controversy though. Everton have lodged an appeal against the red card given to Dominic Calvert-Lewin during their goalless draw against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup third-round.  If the appeal is unsuccessful, Calvert-Lewin could miss not only the third-round replay but also upcoming Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa and Fulham. The striker is facing a three-match ban due to his dismissal following a sliding challenge on Nathaniel Clyne, as determined by a VAR review during the second half. More VAR news and stories Referee Chris Kavanagh initially did not award a free-kick, but after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor, he deemed there was enough contact with Clyne's shin to warrant Calvert-Lewin's dismissal. Premier League: Everton pay the penalty

Manchester United 2 - 0 Everton Manchester United halted their two-game losing streak by securing victory over Everton at Old Trafford through first-half penalties converted by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. https://t.co/qfMpbyVToc pic.twitter.com/7TtUTl4f61 ā€” European Super Football (@ESFootballNews) March 11, 2024 In a peculiar match, Everton became the fifth team in six Premier League games to muster at least 20 shots against Erik ten Hag's side, yet their wastefulness and defensive lapses cost them dearly. Both James Tarkowski and Ben Godfrey received yellow cards for reckless challenges on Alejandro Garnacho. Fernandes calmly dispatched the first penalty, directing a precise low shot to Jordan Pickford's left corner. Despite the skipper passing on the second penalty to Rashford, the latter confidently sent Pickford the wrong way for his seventh goal of the season. Following defeats against Fulham and Manchester City, the win brought United within three points ...

The Blues started the day 18th but capitalised on teams around them failing to win by moving out of the Premier League relegation zone, leaping two points and three places above trouble. McNeil's delightful strike after just 35 seconds gave the hosts the perfect start, rasping a finish across the goal which nestled into the far corner. Buoyed by their fans, the home side were swarming all over the Bees and created much better chances with Demarai Gray seeing a second goal ruled out for handball by VAR. As the game moved to a conclusion, Brentford looked to salvage something but they were not at their best, Ethan Pinnock having a header cleared off the line by McNeil and Kevin Schade heading wide at the far post as their 12-match unbeaten run ended.  Despite the result, they will be still hoping to qualify for Europe. Everton will just be concentrating on building o...

Premier League: Concerning signs for Everton

Have Everton started their road to recovery?

Image
Everton 3 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur Everton began their road to recovery under returning manager David Moyes with an impressive victory at Goodison Park, piling further pressure on Tottenham's under-fire boss, Ange Postecoglou. Author - Sarah W  Spurs were disjointed and vulnerable for large parts of the game, as a revitalised Everton side ā€“ who had only managed three Premier League wins and 15 goals all season before this match ā€“ dominated proceedings. The Toffees raced to a well-deserved 3-0 lead by half-time and, despite a late Tottenham fightback, the final scoreline flattered the visitors, failing to capture the gulf in performance between the two teams. With both sides desperate for points, Everton swept Spurs aside in a blistering first half, laying the foundation for a crucial victory that condemned Postecoglou's side to their seventh defeat in 10 league matches.
