Nations League: Poland punished Scottish errors

Image
Scotland 2 - 3 Poland Scotland's tough 2024 continued in heartbreaking fashion as Poland were awarded a stoppage-time penalty, crushing a spirited Nations League comeback at Hampden. Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay scored second-half goals to revive Scotland after Sebastian Szymanski's long-range strike and Robert Lewandowski's expertly-taken penalty put the visitors ahead. However, as Steve Clarke's men pushed for a late winner , Nicola Zalewski was brought down by a reckless challenge from Grant Hanley. Zalewski, who had also won the earlier penalty, stepped up to slot home the decisive goal in the 97th minute. Scotland, who made a tame exit from this summer's Euros with just one point from three group games, now face a daunting trip to Portugal on Sunday. They have managed only one win in 13 matches in 2024, suffering five defeats. The manner in which this game ended was hard to believe, especially given Scotland’s poor first-half performance.  Clarke'

Premier League: Palace hold Chelsea

Image
Chelsea 1 - 1  Crystal Palace Eberechi Eze scored a brilliant equaliser as Crystal Palace held Chelsea to a draw at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea, who hammered Wolves 6-2 last week , dominated the first half. Cole Palmer came close with a shot that went just wide, and Dean Henderson made a superb save to deny Noni Madueke, before Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring. Jackson finished off a swift Chelsea counter-attack by tapping in Palmer's cross at the near post. Palace were lucky not to be down to 10 men when Will Hughes, already on a yellow card, avoided further punishment for a foul on Palmer. Shortly after, the Eagles fans were celebrating as Eze curled a lovely shot past Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Sanchez then made a fantastic save to deny Daichi Kamada's powerful effort and prevent Palace from taking the lead. In stoppage time, Jackson had a chance to win it for Chelsea, but Henderson saved his effort after he went through on goal. The draw marks Crystal Palace'

Scotland: Celtic ease to win in Glasgow Derby

Image
Celtic 3 - 0 Rangers Celtic continued their recent dominance in the Glasgow derby with a straightforward win over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership. Arriving as strong favourites on their home turf, the champions weathered an early burst of energy from Rangers before reasserting their familiar control. Daizen Maeda calmly finished from close range after a cross from Alistair Johnston, with Rangers caught off guard from a simple throw-in. Earlier, Kyogo had a goal disallowed for offside against Nicolas Kuhn. Still, the Japanese striker soon added to his impressive derby tally with a precise strike from the edge of the box. Rangers were fortunate not to be further behind by half-time and came out with more intensity in the second half. However, Cyriel Dessers squandered a key chance, firing tamely at Kasper Schmeichel when a sharper finish could have reignited the game. The second half was more subdued, with chances for both sides. Kyogo surprisingly hit the side-netting after bein

Premier League: United errors cost them against Liverpool

Image
Manchester United 0 - 3 Liverpool  Manchester United suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Liverpool at Old Trafford. The match saw United struggle against their arch-rivals, with costly errors leading to Liverpool's goals.  The Red Devils finished the game having had more possession than the opposition but were still defeated comfortably. They looked incapable of putting more than five passes together with Liverpool regularly winning the ball back.  Ten Hag's side have lost two of their opening three matches of a Premier League campaign for the third time in the last five seasons (also happening in 2020-21 and 2022-23), with Erik ten Hag the only manager to suffer that fate twice with the club since the Premier League was formed in 1992.  A closer look at what happened Trent Alexander-Arnold had a goal disallowed for offside before Luis Diaz scored two quick goals just before halftime to give Liverpool a strong lead. Salah scored his 12th goal in 15 appearances a

Premier League: Ipswich Town pick up first point

Image
Ipswich Town 1 - 1 Fulham Ipswich Town secured their first point since returning to the Premier League, but couldn't find a way to beat Fulham in a scrappy contest at Portman Road. Liam Delap's superb strike in the 15th minute put Ipswich ahead, marking his first goal since his summer move from Manchester City. However, Fulham's impressive Adama Traore brought the visitors level with a low, drilled shot just before the break. After half-time, Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno produced several crucial saves to deny Ipswich their first top-flight win since April 2002. He managed to tip a deflected Delap effort wide, dived bravely at Chiedozie Ogbene's feet, and then blocked a last-gasp attempt from substitute Omari Hutchinson deep into injury time. Premier League: Nightmare ending for Everton

Image
Everton 2 - 3 AFC Bournemouth Bournemouth pulled off a remarkable late comeback, overturning a two-goal deficit after the 86th minute to stun Everton in a Premier League clash at Goodison Park. Everton had looked set to secure their first win of the season, and their first in August in three years, after taking a deserved lead. But they fell apart spectacularly in the dying moments, as Bournemouth scored three goals in nine chaotic minutes, sparking jubilant celebrations among their players and travelling fans. Antoine Semenyo’s close-range finish from Dango Ouattara’s cross to make it 2-1 seemed like nothing more than a consolation for the visitors, who had been trailing to second-half goals from Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Instead, it marked the start of a dramatic collapse from Everton. Two minutes into stoppage time, Luis Sinisterra set up Bournemouth captain Lewis Cook to equalise, leaving Everton clinging on for a point. But the Toffees crumbled further, sufferi
