Premier League: Man United drop points again

Image
AFC Bournemouth 2 - 2 Manchester United Manchester United's hopes of securing European football were dented again after they dropped one place to seventh following Newcastle United's 4-0 win over Tottenham earlier in the day.  They are currently two points clear of West Ham United having played one game less. They're 6 points ahead of Chelsea, however, the London side has played two games fewer.  A brief match report Bournemouth's positive start was rewarded by Dominic Solanke's goal in the 16th minute. Solanke got the better of Willy Kambwala and finished the ball confidently, low into the corner of the net. This goal motivated the home side further, as they continued to dominate the proceedings.  The home team missed several opportunities to score, and they ultimately paid the price when Fernandes scored from a pass by Alejandro Garnacho. Kluivert quickly restored the hosts' lead five minutes later with a straightforward pass from Marcos Senesi that exp

Premier League: An awful Saturday for Manchester United

Image
Manchester United 0-3 Bournemouth Dominic Solanke's early strike set the stage for Bournemouth's historic triumph at Old Trafford, intensifying the scrutiny on beleaguered Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. Bournemouth secured their first victory at Old Trafford with second-half headers from Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi within a five-minute span, marking a memorable milestone in the club's history. United faced the prospect of an even more dismal outcome, but a late goal by substitute Dango Ouattara was disallowed by the video assistant referee for handball during stoppage time. This defeat comes just three days ahead of United's crucial Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, a match they must win to advance to the last 16. It compounds the woes for Ten Hag, who recently received the Premier League's Manager of the Month award. With seven defeats in 16 league games and an equal number of losses and wins in all competitions, United's form has b

Premier League: Bournemouth beat Newcastle

Image
AFC Bournemouth 2 - 0 Newcastle United Dominic Solanke scored twice against Newcastle to give his side a deserved win. Despite Bournemouth squandering numerous opportunities in the first half, Solanke finally broke the deadlock after an hour, seizing a lucky bounce off Joe Willock to calmly slot the ball in from close quarters. Solanke wasn't done yet, doubling Bournemouth's lead 13 minutes later by flicking in a rebound from Luis Sinisterra's header that had hit the post. It was a tough break for Newcastle, missing key players like the suspended Bruno Guimaraes and the injured Callum Wilson, with Miguel Almiron also forced off in the first half. The match showcased Solanke's prowess and added to the woes for the visiting side. In such a close season at the top and bottom, this one match could have a huge impact on both teams chances. It's only one game but everything counts! Highlights below:  Dom at the double in huge win over Newcastle  Newcastle United news

Premier League: Chelsea frustrated again

Image
Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea Fourteen shots and six attempts on target. No goals though. This was another disappointing afternoon for Chelsea.  You'd have to argue that Pochettino needs to solve some of their problems quickly because this is a brand-new team, but everyone knows how quickly the club hires and fires managers. Premier League news and stories: 2023/2024 (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) The away side has now only scored five goals in the Premier League so far this season. Their fewest amount of goals after five games of a top-flight campaign since 1995-96 (5), when they finished 11th. Should they finish in that position again, you can't imagine the Chelsea owners will be very happy.  During this match, Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling both struck the woodwork. The Bournemouth keeper could not be beaten.  Late on, new signing Cole Palmer had a chance to win the game, but he shot straight at Neto. Dominic Solanke headed wide and forced a Robert Sanchez save for B

Premier League: Everton survive after tense final day

Premier League: Man United are now a point from the Champions League

Image
AFC Bournemouth 0 - 1 Manchester United Manchester United are now only a point from the Champions League after Casemiro's stunning overhead kick edged Manchester United a massive step closer.  In a match that was clear-cut opportunities, a piece of magic from Casemiro proved the difference. The midfielder picked up a beautiful pass from Christian Eriksen and turned away from Marcos Senesi before acrobatically hammering home. As was the case against Wolves last week , United lacked urgency against Bournemouth with Dominic Solanke twice going close and David Brooks forcing a fingertip save from De Gea. They were without their top goal scorer this season, Marcus Rashford , and struggled to mount a serious threat for much of the time after their goal.  Wout Weghorst almost scored late on. His strike was punched away by the Bournemouth keeper and kept the score at 1-0. Bruno Fernandes also nearly scoed before that. They managed to see the game out though, and thanks to Liverpoo

Premier League: Bournemouth boost survival chances

Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 3 AFC Bournemouth Bournemouth took a huge step towards Premier League survival. Dango Ouattara scored a stoppage-time winner in a fantastic finish at Tottenham. Son Heung-min had earlier opened the scoring for the hosts in the first half before Uruguay left-back Matias Vina marked his first Premier League start with a deserved equaliser for Bournemouth. The Cherries looked set to clinch all three points after Dominic Solanke put them in front early in the second half, only for Arnaut Danjuma to come off the bench and equalise against his former club on 88 minutes. Fellow Spurs substitute Richarlison then sent a free header wide deep into stoppage time. The visitors went up the other end and Ouattara netted a dramatic winner. AFC Bournemouth 1 - 0  Liverpool Mohamed Salah's awful penalty miss helped Bournemouth climb out of the relegation zone after an excellent win that damaged Liverpool's chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League. PL reaction: Liverpool 7 - 0 Manchester United Back down to earth with a bump Jurgen Klopp's were brought back down to earth after last week's 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United as the Cherries did their survival chances a power of good. Liverpool were punished for poor defending when the unmarked Philip Billing struck after fine work by Dango Ouattara. Virgil van Dijk had a header cleared off the line at 0-0 and substitute Diogo Jota was denied by Neto's fine save. This was before Liverpool won a penalty when the Portugal forward's header was handled by Adam Smith. However, Salah blazed the penalty wide much to the delight of Bournemouth's fans. While the win ensured Bournemouth finished the day 17th, Liverpool missed the chanc

Arsenal 3 - 2 Bournemouth  Premier League leaders Arsenal came from two goals down to beat Bournemouth. A new hero at Arsenal  Nelson had played just 64 minutes of Premier League football this season before being thrown on as a second-half substitute by Mikel Arteta. One Twitter user said: "What an unbelievable strike from him. I’m so happy for him with everything that’s happened to him at Arsenal. Hitting one of the best left-footed shots that I’ve seen at the Emirates for a long time." A crucial game at both ends of the table Bournemouth’s players crumpled into assorted heaps. Arsenal’s hurled themselves around ecstatically. Both sets of fans and players know episodes like this can decide everything. There was barel

Club football is well and truly back Newcastle United 1 - 0 Bournemouth Newcastle reached the last eight of the Carabao Cup with a hard-fought win over Bournemouth at St James' Park. Adam Smith's own goal proved decisive for the hosts. The defender inadvertently headed past Cherries goalkeeper Mark Travers from Kieran Trippier's superb delivery. Premier League: Bournemouth carry on impressive form

AFC Bournemouth 2 - 1 Leicester City Gary O'Neil enhanced his credentials to become the next permanent Bournemouth manager after leading his side to victory over Leicester City.  Since succeeding Scott Parker, O'Neil has overseen a five-game unbeaten run. This fine win comes after another outstanding comeback against Nottingham Forest last month. Highlights from  AFC Bournemouth - YouTube Although he plays it down when asked, it is increasingly hard to ignore the body of work he is creating at Bournemouth. In terms of the match, Patson Daka's opener gave Leicester some early control, but they failed to capitalise and had no answer to a rousing reply from Bournemouth in the second half. Philip Billing thrashed home a superb volley to level the scores before Ryan Christie touched in Dominic Solanke's knock-down five minutes later to complete the revival. Jamie Vardy came on from the bench to inject urgency into Leicester's play. He went close with a couple of cro
