Premier League reaction: Frank Lampard appointed as Chelsea caretaker boss

Image
Chelsea have appointed former manager Frank Lampard as caretaker boss until the end of the season. The 44-year-old, who is also Chelsea's record goalscorer, was previously dismissed as head coach at Stamford Bridge following 18 months in the job.  He then took charge at Everton but was sacked in January after less than a year in the role. He did however keep the Toffees in the Premier League.  Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali told the club website: "We are delighted to welcome Frank back to Stamford Bridge. Frank is a Premier League Hall of Famer and a legend at this club. As we continue our exhaustive process for a permanent head coach, we want to provide the club and our fans with a clear and stable plan for the remainder of the season. We want to give ourselves every chance of success and Frank has all of the characteristics and qualities we need to drive us to the finish line. "We have an important game against Wolves on Saturday and then we will tur

Premier League: A new low for Manchester United (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) However, there was no sign of a repeat on a rain-soaked night in Manchester, as United's three-game scoreless run was broken expertly by Rashford. The striker latched onto Marcel Sabitzer's knockdown in the 27th minute. He volleyed emphatically beyond David Raya from close range to secure a vital three points for his side.  Brentford were surprisingly passive after being engaged in a 3-3 thriller with Brighton only four days prior and such an exertion was evident in Thom

Premier League: Keane stunner boosts Everton survival hopes

Everton 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur For the best part of an hour, this was a poor match as both Everton and Spurs struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities in the final third. The last thirty minutes was very different. Harry Kane was soon in the thick of the action when he challenged Demarai Gray on the halfway line, an incident to which Doucoure took exception. A few pushes were exchanged before the Everton midfielder put his hand into the face of Kane. The England captain went tumbling to the turf and referee David Coote brandished a straight red. A few people were critical of Kane, suggesting that he went down too easily.  Premier League news (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) The England captain shrugged off the incident to open the scoring 10 minutes later from the penalty spot. He sent international team-mate Jordan Pickford the wrong way to register his 15th league goal against Everton. Spurs substitute Lucas Moura was also sent off for a nasty challenge on Keane. The former

Brighton and Hove Albion 3 - 3 Brentford Brighton and Brentford played out one of the games of the season as both clubs chase European qualification.  Brighton settled into an early rhythm, keeping the ball well, and looking to get Solly March and Mitoma involved from wide areas. The returning Jansson was stepping out of defence to shadow Argentina’s World Cup winner, Mac Allister, wherever he went. That left space in the right centre-back position which Brighton tried to exploit. A brilliant Pinnock challenge was the only thing that stopped Mitoma from opening the scoring on six minutes - the Japanese winger racing down that channel and in on goal from Moises Caicedo’s through ball. From the resulting corner, Mathias Jensen got his body in the way of March’s close-range effort.Joel Veltman had Brighton’s next opening, again from a corner, before Brentford took the lead with their first real foray forward. After sending everyone up for a long throw, Jensen went short before receiv

Premier League News: Brendan Rodgers sacked by Leicester City

Leicester City have sacked manager Brendan Rodgers following a 2-1 defeat by Crystal Palace. Rodgers was appointed in February 2019 and led the club to its first FA Cup triumph in 2021.  However, their recent form has been really poor and they now face a battle to stay in the Premier League.  In a statement on the club website , chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said performances and results this season have been below expectations. The statement reads: "It had been our belief that continuity and stability would be key to correcting our course, particularly given our previous achievements under Brendan's management. "Regrettably, the desired improvement has not been forthcoming and with 10 games of the season remaining, the board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status." He led Leicester to consecutive fifth-place finishes in his first two full seasons as Foxes boss. He also lifted the FA Cup in 2021. More reaction Kieran is
