Championship: Luton still without a league win

Image
Luton Town 1 - 2 QPR Michael Frey played a pivotal role in QPR's comeback against Luton Town, creating one goal and scoring the decisive winner in a brilliant display of hardworking centre-forward play.  Frey smashed home a perfectly judged volley to secure Rangers' first Championship victory of the season, just minutes after his power and awareness set up Nicolas Madsen to equalise. The equaliser came somewhat against the run of play, much like Luton's opener in the first half, which was handed to them when the unlucky Jimmy Dunne accidentally turned the ball into his own net from close range. EFL: 2024/2025 (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) More news and stories from Luton Luton, still without a win and with just one point and two goals from their four league matches, rarely looked like equalising until the final moments of the game. A frantic finish saw Carlton Morris denied by a fine save from keeper Paul Nardi, and Joe Taylor heading over from close range. Despite t

Pre Season: Spurs secure win at QPR

QPR 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur Yves Bissouma's first goal in Spurs colours and a late strike from Dane Scarlett made it two wins out of two in pre-season. Ange Postecoglou's side secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon. This was a very entertaining match that both sides would have taken a lot from.  Midfielder Bissouma produced some dazzling footwork to slide home the opener just before half-time. Tottenham then weathered some heavy second-half pressure from the hosts, substitute Scarlett converted Mikey Moore's cross three minutes from time - just moments after his introduction - to make the game safe. Premier League: Summer 2024 news and stories  It was another largely positive afternoon for Spurs at Loftus Road, the only downside being the first-half departure of Lucas Bergvall, who had picked up a knock in the penalty area and was replaced by Dejan Kulusevski as they took no chances over the recent arrival. Defeat but a positive exper

A pivotal night for both sides Leeds may have to settle for a play-off place. However, it was a joyous night for Marti Cifuentes' Hoops who are now seven points clear of the relegation zone and have moved up to 16th place. EFL: Who's getting promoted to the Premier League?  The home side was down in 23rd position in the table, and they had lost six consecutive games when their current boss took over as coach from Gareth Ainsworth at the end of October. After a difficult period before and after Christmas, the R's have won nine matches and only lost four since mid-January, allowing them to escape from danger.  Blackpool 6 - 1 QPR Blackpool picked up a massive three points with a dominant victory over QPR. Goals from Jerry Yates, Andy Lyons, Curtis Nelson and Jordan Thorniley had Pool four up after 36 minutes. Chris Martin got a goal back for QPR before the break. A second goal from Andy Lyons and a strike from Kenny Dougall put the cherry on top of the cake for Pool. Blackpool remains in the bottom but this win and performance should give them a massive boost. QPR are in 19th position and will be starting to look nervously over their shoulder.  More Blackpool news>>> Manager reaction Blackpool manager Mick McCarthy told the media: "The lads up front destroyed QPR tonight, but even though we were 4-1 up at half-time, I knew we'd need to do it all again in the second half. We did that, though, and once we'd got the fifth there was no coming back from that. I really wanted a big performance from the lads tonight, and I think I got it." QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth g

EFL: Improved Birmingham shock QPR

Birmingham City 2 - 0 QPR A resurgent Birmingham City claimed their biggest scalp of the season John Eustace's side battled their way to victory over high-flying Queens Park Rangers. COME ON! @SandowRs ! 😆 pic.twitter.com/Fce5uUqVGc — Birmingham City FC (@BCFC) October 28, 2022 Birmingham fans and players clearly enjoyed their night.   QPR were done no favours by two of their London neighbours as Blues won with first-half goals from two loan men - Arsenal's American defender Auston Trusty and West Ham wing-back Manny Longelo. Any hopes that Michael Beale's side might turn it round after the break were then ended with Blues goalkeeper John Ruddy's fine 79th-minute penalty save to deny Lyndon Dykes. After winning four times in five away games, this was a second straight defeat on the road for QPR, while Blues' third win in five - in front of 19,007, their biggest home crowd since before the Covid pandemic, lifts them into the top half. It looked on the cards ri

Queens Park Rangers climbed to fifth in the Championship with victory over Luton Town.  Chris Willock gave the home side the lead with a perfectly-weighted dink over the onrushing Simon Sluga after a fine lofted route-one pass from deep by Ilias Chair in an entertaining first-half. Charlie Austin buried his header past the Hatters' Croatian goalkeeper early in the second Ilias Chair might have made it easier for QPR but his rising drive soared over early on.  Highlights Watch the highlights of the match in the video below. One QPR fan asked an interesting question in the comments section: "Are we brave or good enough to stay in top 6?" Reaction QPR boss Mark Warburton told BBC Radio London: "They were two really important goals as well, and at important times as well. The first one it was nice to see was a direct ball, it was a quick release and the keeper made Chris' mind up for him really, but he executed it well. "We had that lead, we were a little bi

Reaction West Bromwich Albion head coach Val Ismael spoke with the media after the match. He said: "I am here to make decisions. I know exactly what I am doing. Making subs is all about having an impact. Not bringing on a sub for the sake of it. We had a clear idea of
