However, there was a stunning comeback from Juventus.  Roma's Lorenzo Pellegrini also had a late penalty saved after Matthijs de Ligt was given a second yellow card for handball. The hosts took an early lead when Olivier Giroud converted a penalty following a handball by his former Chelsea team-mate Tammy Abraham. Michael Carrick scored United's first on the night then Alan Smith fired home before Wayne Rooney added a third goal which came at the end of a superb move.
