Championship news: Cardiff sack Mick McCarthy

Cardiff City have sacked Mick McCarthy after an awful run of results and performances.  The awful run of results has seen them plummet from eighth to 21st in the Championship table.During this run, Cardiff have scored only one goal and fans were demanding McCarthy's exit long before the final whistle of their most recent defeat. Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem earned a deserved win in the Europa Conference League. With players such as Harry Kane and Son Heung-min rested, Tottenham fielded a different starting eleven to the one who beat Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday and they lacked rhythm in a poor performance. Vitesse finished fourth in the Eredivisie last season and created the better opportunities. This sell-out crowd when Wittek finally made their dominance count. Let's have a look at the reaction as Manchester United pulled off a stunning comeback against Atalanta. Second-half goals from Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo gave United the win. The reaction from pundits and players United defender Harry Maguire spoke to BT Sport after the match: "The first half we conceded two bad goals. Two big moments in the game. For the first they caught us out and then the second it is a set-play that we shouldn't be conceding. Transfer Rumours: Karim Adeyemi linked with move from RB Salzburg

Reports from around Europe have indicated that Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have all expressed an interest in RB Salzburg and Germany striker Karim Adeyemi It is believed that the Austrian side will only accept a bid of between 30 million and 40 million Euros. Is he worth it? Take a look at this video from LUTYHD on YouTube. How good is he? In 65 games for RB Salzburg, he has scored 21 goals. This is a decent record for a player so young. He actually started his youth career at Bayern Munich but had to leave due to a contract dispute. Adeyemi back at Bayern? Many with Bayern still believe he could have a career at the Bundesliga giants and they see him as Lewandowski’s possible successor. Others believe it could actually be that the Germany international is being viewed as more of a potential heir to Kingsley Coman’s spot in the squad. UCL: Shakhtar Donetsk 0 - 5 Real Madrid

Real Madrid bounced back from that shock defeat again Sheriff Tiraspol with a 5-0 thrashing of Shakhtar Donetsk in Kyiv.  You can watch the highlights in the video below. Carlo Ancelotti’s side led 1-0 at half-time after Serhiy Kryvtsov sliced in a Lucas Vázquez cross beyond his own goalkeeper for a spectacular 37th-minute own goal.  In the second half, Vinícius Júnior put the game beyond Shakhtar with two stunning goals in five minutes – converting Luka Modric’s fine through ball before an individual effort, with the Brazilian dribbling past three defenders.  Vinícius then set up his compatriot Rodrygo for the fourth goal before Karim Benzema near the end of the game. Manchester United were the first English team to win the European Cup back in 1968.  Let's have a look at some of their greatest ever nights in European competition. United had suffered the tragedy of Munich a decade earlier and recovered over the next few years to eventually become champions of Europe for the first time. UCL: Paris Saint Germain 3 - 2 RB Leipzig

Lionel Messi scored twice as Paris St-Germain came from behind to beat RB Leipzig in the Champions League. Kylian Mbappe had previously put the French side ahead, slamming into the bottom corner on the counter-attack. However Andre Silva and Nordi Mukiele scored from Angelino crosses to put Leipzig ahead. Messi turned the game around for the home side when he tapped a rebound into an empty net before scoring a Panenka penalty to win the game. PSG won another penalty deep into extra time, but instead of Messi stepping up for a hat-trick, Mbappe took it instead - and then skied it over the bar. Messi's three goals since joining PSG as a free agent this summer have come in the Champions League, with the Argentinian legend also scoring in their 2-0 win over Manchester City. He is now on 123 Champions League goals across his career, with Leipzig the 37th team he has scored against in Europe's premier competition. Celtic kept alive their Europa League knockout hopes with a hard-fought win over the Hungarian champions Ferencvaros. Kyogo Furuhashi slid home the opener from a sublime Jota pass after a frustrating first half. Balint Vecsei's unfortunate own goal final confirmed Celtic's win after Callum McGregor's had previously missed a penalty. Celtic's defeats against Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen meant they had to win this match to have any chance of progressing in the competition. PL News: Rashford issues statement to Manchester United fans

Following their 4-2 away at Leicester City, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford issued an interesting statement to their fans. The Academy graduate was named in the squad for the first time this season, after missing the start of the campaign while recovering from shoulder surgery.  Marcus entered the field as a second-half substitute and quickly scored his first goal of the season latching onto a pass from Victor Lindelof to calmly finish past Kasper Schmeichel.   The goal made it 2-2 at the King Power Stadium, but unfortunately for United the game quickly slipped away.   Speaking with his millions of followers after the match, Rashford admitted he was pleased to return but ultimately frustrated by a difficult defeat. United's home grown hero posted: “Not the result we wanted on my return. “Happy to get the goal but the performance as a whole was just not good enough today. Erling Braut Haaland scored twice on his return from injury as Borussia Dortmund secured a victory over Mainz. The Norwegian has now scored 49 times in 49 league matches for Dortmund and 70 goals in 68 matches in all competitions. That is an incredible return for someone who is still only 21. Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou hailed his side's total control as they made it back-to-back away wins at Motherwell. Postecoglou told the media: "Both goals were great. Chelsea were made to fight hard for a West London derby win against Brentford. England left-back Ben Chilwell's first-half goal - his third in three games for club and country - was enough to win the match for Chelsea. The victory came thanks to some strong defensive work as the Bees piled on the pressure in the closing stages. During a frantic final 15 minutes where Brentford threw everything at their opponents, Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy had to make two incrediblw saves, while Blues defender Trevoh Chalobah also cleared a chance off the line.  Leicester City increased the pressure on  Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they ran out deserved winners against Manchester United in a thriller at the King Power Stadium. At one point, United had threatened to steal a point from a dreadful performance but the Foxes rallied to secure their best win of an indifferent start to the season. More thoughts from the match It is inevitable that much focus will be placed on the failings of Manchester United but Leicester City deserve massive credit for a performance that saw them back to their best after a relatively poor start to the Premier League season.  The presence of Jonny Evans amongst the defence provided reassurance and quality while Iheanacho put in a great performance against Harry Maguire. The United captain put in a error-strewn display on his return from injury. Where next for Ole? Pressure has certainly increased on the United manager. They now have a hug
