Premier League: Chelsea thrash Everton

Image
Chelsea 6 - 0 Everton Cole Palmer moved level with Erling Haaland in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.  He scored a brilliant four-goals, this took him to a total of 20 goals for the season, and helped Chelsea to an emphatic 6-0 win over Everton.  Nicolas Jackson and young substitute Alfie Gilchrist also scored. There was an unsavoury disagreement between Palmer, Jackson and Noni Madueke over who should take a penalty. A closer look at what happened Chelsea's 6-0 win over a struggling Everton side at Stamford Bridge was completed thanks to a superb performance by Cole Palmer. The attacking midfielder wasted no time in making an impact, scoring twice in the opening 18 minutes of the game.  Palmer's first goal was a stunning curling effort from outside the box, while the second came from a close-range rebound. Palmer scored two more goals in the match, dealing a significant blow to Everton's hopes of avoiding relegation. The England international completed hi

Premier League: Potentially a pivotal night in Newcastle

Newcastle United 1 - 1 Everton How important could this point prove to be for Everton? How costly could these two dropped points be in Newcastle's quest for European qualification?  Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a late penalty to secure a crucial point for Everton in their battle to avoid relegation and draw against Newcastle, who are still vying for a spot in Europe. Alexander Isak scored in the 15th minute for the hosts after receiving a pass from Harvey Barnes, cutting inside Jarrad Branthwaite, and calmly finishing past Jordan Pickford. Dan Burn thought he had scored a goal, but it was disallowed for offside. Isak also had a shot cleared off the line.  Later in the game, Paul Dummett was penalised for wrestling Ashley Young to the ground by having his arm around Young's neck. This gave the visitors a chance to score a late goal. Can Newcastle United qualify for Europe? More news from the Geordie Nation on European Super Football. Referee Tony Harrington had not given a

Premier League: Everton pay the penalty

Manchester United 2 - 0 Everton Manchester United halted their two-game losing streak by securing victory over Everton at Old Trafford through first-half penalties converted by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. https://t.co/qfMpbyVToc pic.twitter.com/7TtUTl4f61 — European Super Football (@ESFootballNews) March 11, 2024 In a peculiar match, Everton became the fifth team in six Premier League games to muster at least 20 shots against Erik ten Hag's side, yet their wastefulness and defensive lapses cost them dearly. Both James Tarkowski and Ben Godfrey received yellow cards for reckless challenges on Alejandro Garnacho. Fernandes calmly dispatched the first penalty, directing a precise low shot to Jordan Pickford's left corner. Despite the skipper passing on the second penalty to Rashford, the latter confidently sent Pickford the wrong way for his seventh goal of the season. Following defeats against Fulham and Manchester City, the win brought United within three points

FA Cup: Palace and Everton will go again

Image
Crystal Palace 0 - 0 Everton The FA Cup third round weekend started with a rather boring 0-0 draw between Palace and Everton. The game wasn't without controversy though. Everton have lodged an appeal against the red card given to Dominic Calvert-Lewin during their goalless draw against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup third-round.  If the appeal is unsuccessful, Calvert-Lewin could miss not only the third-round replay but also upcoming Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa and Fulham. The striker is facing a three-match ban due to his dismissal following a sliding challenge on Nathaniel Clyne, as determined by a VAR review during the second half. More VAR news and stories Referee Chris Kavanagh initially did not award a free-kick, but after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor, he deemed there was enough contact with Clyne's shin to warrant Calvert-Lewin's dismissal. Premier League: Garnacho stunner helps United to another win

Everton 0 - 3 Manchester United Alejandro Garnacho scored an incredible goal in Manchester United's win against Everton, who were playing their first game after a 10-point deduction.  Video from  Manchester United - YouTube Garnacho's stunning third-minute goal, a bicycle kick, left the Goodison Park crowd in awe, and it came amidst protests from fans against the Premier League's decision to deduct those points. Everton had several chances to level the score in the first half, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin being the main threat. However, United's goalkeeper Andre Onana made crucial saves, and Garnacho's goal remained the only highlight of the first half. United introduced 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo, who made a clearance off the line. Everton's missed opportunities proved costly as Ashley Young was judged to have fouled Anthony Martial in the box, leading to Marcus Rashford confidently converting the penalty. Although Fernandes typically takes penalties for Unite

The Everton boss Sean Dyche told the media: "Formation and tactics doesn't always win games, mentality wins games and gets us a point today with a firm mentality and people not making excuses. Premier League: Breathless encounter at Leicester

This breathless encounter came after a dramatic Sunday. How important could these two days prove to be come the end of the season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin opened the scoring with just his second goal of the season from the penalty spot, picking himself up to convert after being bundled over by Timothy Castagne. Premier League: Keane stunner boosts Everton survival hopes

Image
Everton 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur For the best part of an hour, this was a poor match as both Everton and Spurs struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities in the final third. The last thirty minutes was very different. Harry Kane was soon in the thick of the action when he challenged Demarai Gray on the halfway line, an incident to which Doucoure took exception. A few pushes were exchanged before the Everton midfielder put his hand into the face of Kane. The England captain went tumbling to the turf and referee David Coote brandished a straight red. A few people were critical of Kane, suggesting that he went down too easily.  Premier League news (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) The England captain shrugged off the incident to open the scoring 10 minutes later from the penalty spot. He sent international team-mate Jordan Pickford the wrong way to register his 15th league goal against Everton. Spurs substitute Lucas Moura was also sent off for a nasty challenge on Keane. Premier League: Simms rescues point for Everton

Image
Chelsea 2 - 2 Everton This could prove to be a very important point for Everton. Ellis Simms scored his first Everton goal to earn Sean Dyche's side a crucial point. They came from behind twice to draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Everton's improved resilience under Dyche was on show again. The 22-year-old local product Simms was the hero with a superb late equaliser to wreck Chelsea's hopes of a fourth consecutive win. Chelsea broke down Everton's resistance seven minutes after the break when the excellent Joao Felix drilled home a low drive. However, they were pegged back when Abdoulaye Doucoure scrambled home an equaliser from a corner after 69 minutes. The away side were only on level terms for seven minutes. Kai Havertz scored from the spot after Reece James was fouled by James Tarkowski. However, there was to be a late twist in the tale. Dyche had put Simms on to rescue a point, and he delivered in style with a powerful run and finish a minute from time

Premier League: Everton move out of bottom three

Everton 1 - 0 Brentford Everton boosted their survival chances with a win in front of a vocal Goodison Park. The Blues started the day 18th but capitalised on teams around them failing to win by moving out of the Premier League relegation zone, leaping two points and three places above trouble. McNeil's delightful strike after just 35 seconds gave the hosts the perfect start, rasping a finish across the goal which nestled into the far corner. Buoyed by their fans, the home side were swarming all over the Bees and created much better chances with Demarai Gray seeing a second goal ruled out for handball by VAR. As the game moved to a conclusion, Brentford looked to salvage something but they were not at their best, Ethan Pinnock having a header cleared off the line by McNeil and Kevin Schade heading wide at the far post as their 12-match unbeaten run ended.  Despite the result, they will be still hoping to qualify for Europe. Everton will just be concentrating on building on thi

Premier League: Dream start for Sean Dyche

Image
Everton 1 - 0 Arsenal Sean Dyche enjoyed a dream start as Everton's manager as they stunned Premier League leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park. Dyche was appointed last Monday following the departure of Frank Lampard. The hosts picked up their first victory in 11 games in all competitions courtesy of a link-up between two men who played for Dyche at Burnley. James Tarkowski rose at the far post to power home a header from Dwight McNeil's corner to spark the sort of joyous scenes that haven't been seen since that memorable victory over Crystal Palace last season Everton had enjoyed much better chances in the opening period too. Arsenal were outfought for large periods and failed to find any rhythm, although January signing Leandro Trossard forced Jordan Pickford into a sharp save late on. The Gunners couldn't find the leveller and will see their lead at the top cut to two points if champions Manchester City beat Tottenham on Sunday. Full-time scenes Full-time SCENE

Premier League: Everton have named their new manager

Everton have confirmed the appointment of Sean Dyche as the Club’s new Manager. Dyche has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract and will take charge for the first time for their Premier League clash against Arsenal at Goodison Park on Saturday 4 February. He will be supported by former Nottingham Forest winger Ian Woan as his Assistant Manager. They will be joined by ex-England international Steve Stone as First-Team Coach. Mark Howard will support the provision of sports science. All three members of staff previously worked with Dyche at Burnley. Dyche told the Everton website: “It’s an honour to become Everton manager. My staff and I are ready and eager to help get this great club back on track. I know about Everton’s passionate fanbase and how precious this club is to them. We’re ready to work and ready to give them what they want. That starts with sweat on the shirt, effort and getting back to some of the basic principles of what Everton Football Club has stood for for a long

West Ham United 2 - 0 Everton Familiar failings plagued Everton, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin isolated and Demarai Gray ineffective. West Ham made their physicality count and they led when a cross from their left wing-back, Emerson Palmieri, exposed the weaknesses in Everton’s defending. Kurt Zouma, back from injury and impressing alongside Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbonna at the back, wanted it more than James Tarkowski and Conor Coady. It was easy for Zouma to flick the ball on and there was too much space for Bowen, who rushed in to guide a simple finish over Pickford. Turkey: Ali joins Besiktas on loan

Image
A player has left the Premier League Dele Alli has completed a season’s loan move from Everton to Besiktas that gives the Turkish club the option to buy the midfielder. Alli has experienced a disappointing spell at Everton since joining from Tottenham last January, making 13 appearances, including two as a substitute this season. Besiktas have an option to buy for £6m before 1 January or for £8m after that until June. Alli will otherwise return to Everton, where he would have one year on his contract. Everton signed Alli on a free but have to pay Spurs £10m if he makes 20 appearances for them. Further add-ons are dependent on team and individual achievements. Besiktas are level with the top club, Fenerbahce, after three matches. Besiktas supporters gave Alli a raucous welcome when he arrived at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul to seal his transfer. Winger Nicolas Pépé has left Arsenal to join Nice on loan for the 2022-23 season. The Ivory Coast international returns to Ligue 1, having p

Premier League: Everton safe after dramatic night

Everton 3 - 2 Crystal Palace Everton secured their Premier League status after coming back from two goals down to beat Crystal Palace. Before the match, Everton fans had created a remarkable atmosphere. This carried on into the stadium. Initially, the hosts looked like they were heading for a potentially damaging defeat after the away side scored twice in the first half through Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew. Everton turned the game around in the second half, thanks to a more attacking approach. Nine minutes after the break Michael Keane smashed in to give Frank Lampard's side hope. When Richarlison found the bottom corner with a deflected shot with 15 minutes left, it sent Goodison Park into raptures as a precious point looked likely. The best was to come with five minutes left. Dominic Calvert-Lewin,  sparked pandemonium with a diving header from Demarai Gray's free-kick.
