Author -Amy W A closer look at what happened  Hull City’s miserable FA Cup run continued for a fifth consecutive year as they suffered an almost humiliating exit at the hands of former manager Grant McCann. McCann, who also eliminated Hull from a cup competition last season, guided Doncaster Rovers to a dramatic victory at the MKM Stadium, winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Doncaster took the lead early in the second half when Luke Molyneux capitalised on Ryan Giles’ error, stealing possession before calmly slotting past debutant goalkeeper Carl Rushworth. The lacklustre hosts struggled to respond, showing little urgency or creativity, until Mason Burstow struck the post and Gustavo Puerta converted the rebound to level the score. With no winner after extra time, the tie went to penalties in...

Miron Muslic, appointed on Friday to replace Wayne Rooney , watched from the stands as Plymouth delivered a resolute performance, restricting Brentford to very few chances. Fabio Carvalho tested Argyle keeper Conor Hazard twice in the opening 15 minutes, but those were the only shots on target from Thomas Frank's side. Even with star forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa brought on from the bench to break the deadlock, it was Plymouth who found the decisive goal. Brentford nearly forced a late equaliser, but Wissa’s close-range header went wide, and Plymouth held firm d...

However, the U's couldn’t hold onto their advantage as Demetri Mitchell turned the game around with two goals before half-time, putting Exeter in control. Vincent Harper added a third for the Grecians with a precise low strike, before Oxford’s afternoon worsened when substitute Tyler Goodrham was shown a red card for elbowing Jake Richards in the face. Fulham dominated possession and kept their Championship opponents pinned back for much of the game, creating far more chances in a confident display. Everton start new era with a win

Image
Everton 2 - 0 Peterborough United  Premier League strugglers Everton kickstarted life after Sean Dyche with a hard-fought victory over League One side Peterborough in the FA Cup third round. Author - Sarah W  Thursday night's tie at Goodison Park was overshadowed by the shock announcement of Dyche's sacking just three hours before kick-off. The surprise decision left Everton Under-18s coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman stepping in as interim managers on a freezing Merseyside evening. Portuguese striker Beto broke the deadlock three minutes before the interval, coolly rounding goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic after latching onto a brilliant through ball from 17-year-old Harrison Armstrong. It was a moment of quality in an otherwise cagey contest. Beto had earlier seen a header comfortably saved, while Orel Mangala came close with a stunning volley that clipped the top of the crossbar. Peterborough, managed by Darren Ferguson, also threatened, with Cian Hay...

Manchester United 3 - 3 Coventry City Manchester United won 4-2 on penalties  United somehow progressed to the FA Cup final for the second successive season, following a dramatic semi-final victory over Coventry City. The Reds edged past the Sky Blues on penalties after a crazy and eventful 120 minutes to set up a rematch of last year's final, against Manchester City.
