The home side came closest to equalising when on-loan Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe sent a far-post header across goal and only narrowly wide. Roberto de Zerbi's men failed to reach the heights that allowed them to beat Liverpool in the previous round. However, Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk turned in another impressive defensive display on his 400th appearance for the club. The away side always had a measure of control against their Championship opponents. Is history about to be made? This will only be Brighton's thir

FA Cup: Blackburn shock Leicester

Image
Leicester City 1 - 2 Blackburn Rovers Championship promotion contenders Blackburn Rovers caused an FA Cup fifth-round upset by stunning 2021 cup winners Leicester City. Backburn's dynamic display, in which they should have scored more goals, gave them a place in the last eight for the first time in eight years. Having been denied by Daniel Iversen's flying save, Tyrhys Dolan curled past Leicester's Danish goalkeeper for the opener. Ryan Hedges then missed a gilt-edged opportunity to double the visiting side's lead at the start of the second period when he failed to hit the target from 10 yards out. This didn't prove costly as Sammie Szmodics wriggled clear to convert Rovers' second in the 52nd minute, while the midfielder also had a goal ruled out for offside. Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho pulled one back for the Foxes by slotting in from close range. However, it wasn't enough. Many fans would have thought there was a good opportunity of a cup run there.

PL reaction: Spurs boost Champions League hopes

Image
Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 0  Chelsea Tottenham boosted their hopes of a top-four Premier League finish with a London derby win over Chelsea. This increased the pressure on Graham Potter. Oliver Skipp's 20-yard effort just after the interval put the hosts in command. The victory was sealed when Harry Kane turned home Eric Dier's knock-down late on. Let's explore all of the best reaction from fans Amy, a Chelsea fan, told us: "Another poor performance. I don't want Potter to be sacked, but I fear it's going that way." Greg, a Spurs fan, was very happy with the result and performance. He said: "That could be a very important win for us. " Crees commented on YouTube: "Richarlison has been really crucial for me. He might not get a goal or assist, but he is always in the right position. He helped Skippy and also almost put Hojberg in. If we do go to a 4231 with a future manager, he could play anywhere in the front." Jacob Huggins commented on Yo

He captained Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar, and scored 27 goals in 49 games for club and country in 2021-22. Liam, a Manchester United fan, told us: "You have to say, he deserves it. The World Cup was the crowning glory of this career." In a long statement, Messi told the media: "It's amazing. It's an honour for me to be here tonight and win this award. Without my team-mates I wouldn't be here. It was an amazing year and I achieved the dream that I've been hoping for so long and finally, I managed to achieve it." Manuel, a PSG fan, was delighted with Messi winning the award: "He deserves this award. However, more for his performances with Argentina then PSG sadly. I don't think we have seen the best of him in Paris." This is a full list of the other wi

Serie A: Napoli extend lead at the top

Empoli 0 - 2 Napoli Napoli's impressive form carries on A goal by striker Victor Osimhen and an own goal by Empoli defender Ardian Ismajli earned Napoli a 2-0 away win in Serie A on Saturday. This extended their lead over second-placed Inter Milan to an incredible 18 points. The league leaders dominated the clash from kick-off and pushed mid-table Empoli enough to pressure Ismajli into opening the scoring with an own goal in the 17th minute. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sent a lofted pass from the edge of the box to midfielder Piotr Zielinski who saw Osimhen in front of goal but before his cross could reach the striker, Ismajli put the ball in. It was then 2-0 around eleven minutes ater. Osimhen tapped in a rebound from close range after Empoli keeper Guglielmo Vicario had parried a strike by Kvaratskhelia right into the Nigerian's path. EFL Cup: Manchester United win at Wembley

Manchester United 2 - 0 Newcastle United Newcastle United's long wait for a trophy goes on as they lost the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United. Casemiro’s header opened the scoring midway through the first half. Marcus Rashford then doubled Man United's lead with a shot that took a deflection off Newcastle's Sven Botman. Eddie Howe knew he had to go for it at the start of the second half.  He introduced Alexander Isak up front alongside Callum Wilson. However, it ultimately had very little impact. The reds managed to claim victory in London and would have extended the lead but for Loris Karius's heroics.  Erik ten Hag has now picked up his first piece of silverware as United manager and there could be more success and trophies coming up for his side. Premier League: A pivotal day in the title race

Image
Saturday 25th February is being seen by many as a very important day in the title race. Here's how Arsenal and Man City got on. Leicester City 0 - 1 Arsenal  A 46th-minute goal by Gabriel Martinelli at the King Power Stadium was enough to maintain Arsenal's advantage over Manchester City.  A defeat against a relegation threatened Everton side earlier this month sparked a winless three-game spell that included a loss to City and threatened to blow them off course, but those memories now appear to have been banished. Arsenal defended well when they needed to. It was then over to Man City. One Arsenal fan told us: "This feels like an important win!" Bournemouth 1 - 4 Man City City never looked in danger of dropping more points once Julian Alvarez put them ahead. Erling Haaland looked back to his best and maintained his goal-a-game ratio by tucking home a close-range second for his 27th top-flight goal of the season to end a relatively lean spell of one in six games.
