Pre Season: Man United achieve first win of season's build up

Rangers 0 - 2 Manchester United Manchester United earned a first pre-season victory with an assured 2-0 win over Rangers in Scotland. A pinpoint left-footed strike from Amad Diallo in the 39th minute and a fierce drive by Joe Hugill on 70 minutes proved the difference for the Reds in Edinburgh. The runout at Murrayfield was another opportunity to build up fitness for the Red Devils as 21 players got minutes under their belts. Walsall 0 - 3 Aston Villa Two first-half goals from Morgan Rogers helped Aston Villa open their pre-season schedule with a 3-0 victory at Walsall. Rogers scored in the 21st minute after receiving a quick free-kick from summer signing Ross Barkley and calmly finishing. He then doubled his tally with a tidy finish on the turn from a corner shortly after the half-hour mark. This put Villa in control against the Saddlers. The Villa boss Unai Emery changed the entire team at the interval . New arrivals Kosta Nedeljković, Samuel Iling Jr and Enzo Barrenechea were all introduced. A host of youngsters featured throughout at the Poundland Bescot Stadium. It took Villa time to get going again in the second half on the front foot and Walsall created several half-chances. Villa eventually started to pose a threat at the other end. Transfer News: United strengthen their defence

Manchester United's plans for the new season appear to be going well. The Red Devils have signed French defender Leny Yoro from Lille on a contract until 2029.  The deal is valued at €62 million (£52.18m), with an additional €8 million (£6.73m) in potential add-ons. The 18-year-old centre-back has committed to a five-year stay at Old Trafford, with an option to extend for another 12 months. Yoro, who debuted for Lille at 16, had attracted interest from Real Madrid, Paris St-Germain, and Liverpool. Last season, he made 32 league appearances, scored two goals, and was instrumental in helping Lille secure fourth place in Ligue 1 . His performances earned him a spot in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season. In total, Yoro played 44 matches across all competitions for Lille, reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League, where they were narrowly defeated on penalties by Aston Villa. Could another English player be moving to Real Madrid? Real Madrid are eager to lure Trent Alexander-Arnold away from Anfield this summer. It has been reported that Trent's England teammate Jude Bellingham might be playing a crucial role in this potential move, as their bond is thought to have deepened during Euro 2024. The midfielder joined Los Blancos last year from Borussia Dortmund and had an outstanding debut season, winning both La Liga and the Champions League, and quickly becoming a key player. It's uncertain whether Real Madrid will follow up their interest with a formal offer for Alexander-Arnold, who came through Liverpool's academy. At the same time, it's unclear if Liverpool would consider letting their versatile right-back go. Spain: Modric signs new Real Madrid contract

There has been interesting news from Madrid Real Madrid captain Luka Modric has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Spanish champions. Modric, 38, has amassed 26 trophies, including six Champions League titles and four domestic championships, since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012. The 2018 Ballon d'Or winner has made 534 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring 39 goals. In the 2023-24 season, the Croatian played in 46 matches across all competitions, though he was in the starting lineup only 23 times. Modric started all three of Croatia's matches at Euro 2024, where they were eliminated after finishing third in their group. His contract was set to expire at the end of June, Modric’s renewal ensures that manager Carlo Ancelotti will have his experienced presence as he prepares for his 13th season at the Bernabeu. Chesterfield 0 - 3 Nottingham Forest  Nottingham Forest kicked off their pre-season with a 3-0 win against Chesterfield, courtesy of goals from Chris Wood, Josh Bowler, and Ibrahim Sangare. The visitors could have taken a 3-0 lead within the first 15 minutes, having created a trio of excellent chances. Emmanuel Dennis and Anthony Elanga both forced saves from Chesterfield's goalkeeper, Ryan Boot, while Nicolas Dominguez hit the post with a shot from the edge of the area. Forest believed they had taken the lead just before the half-hour mark, but Dennis was adjudged to have fouled Boot when heading in a free-kick, and the goal was disallowed. Despite creating several more chances, including efforts from Ryan Yates and Elanga, they couldn't find a way past Boot before half-time. Rosenborg 1 - 0 Manchester United Manchester United got the 2024/25 pre-season campaign underway as they were beaten 1-0 by Rosenborg in Trondheim, Norway. Erik ten Hag opted to select a different outfield line-up for each half at the Lerkendal Stadium, with 21 players in total getting valuable minutes in their legs after the summer. Radek Vitek was the star performer for The Red Devils as he made a multitude of spectacular saves to prevent the home side from scoring before Noah Holm struck with almost the last kick of the game. Ethan Wheatley and Ethan Ennis had the best opportunities for United, while the likes of Casemiro, Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford were afforded time on the pitch seven weeks on from the FA Cup final. There has been a dramatic announcement in the aftermath of the Euro 2024 final England manager Gareth Southgate has stepped down just two days after the team's defeat by Spain in the 2024 European Championship final. The Three Lions were narrowly beaten 2-1 in Berlin on Sunday , marking their second consecutive Euros final loss, following a penalty shootout defeat to Italy at Wembley three years ago. Transfer News: Manchester United secure their first signing of the summer

Could this prove to be a bargain for Manchester United? The Red Devils have secured the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and the Netherlands for £36.54 million. The 23-year-old striker has committed to a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with the possibility of extending for an additional year. While Zirkzee's contract with Bologna had a release clause of €40 million (£33.6 million), United chose to pay a slightly higher amount to spread the payment over three years, aiding compliance with Profit and Sustainability Rules. Zirkzee is the first player to join the men's team since Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a 27.7% stake in the club last December. England's hopes of ending 58 years of pain and disappointment were dashed as they lost to Spain in the Euro 2024 final at Berlin's Olympiastadion. Gareth Southgate's team suffered heartbreak once again, falling to a late goal by Mikel Oyarzabal, which left them unable to end the long wait for success for the men's team in a second consecutive European Championship final. Spain took the lead just two minutes into the second half when Lamine Yamal set up Nico Williams, who beat England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with a powerful low shot. England's captain, Harry Kane, struggled to find form and was substituted after an hour. Cole Palmer, who came on for Kobbie Mainoo, briefly revived hopes of a comeback with a composed left-footed strike in the 73rd minute. However, Spain ultimately clinched victory, as Oyarzabal converted Marc Cucurella' s cross four minutes from time, leaving England once again
