Liverpool responded swiftly, levelling seven minutes later through Cody Gakpo’s brilliantly executed angled strike. The game then appeared to turn against United when Mohamed Salah converted a penalty with 20 minutes remaining, equalling Thierry Henry's Premier League tally of 175 goals. The spot-kick was awarded after a VAR review deemed Matthijs de Ligt guilty of handball. After all that, United refused to surrender. The 32-year-old Egyptian forward announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, closing what has been an historic chapter at Anfield. This announcement cements the clues Salah hinted at earlier. Back in September, following a match against Manchester United , Salah implied that this season would likely be his last with the Reds. Today’s statement brings an end to the speculation. Despite the prospect of his departure, Salah continues to demonstrate why he’s regarded as one of the Premier League’s finest. He’s currently the league’s top scorer with 17 goals and has also contributed 13 assists, remaining an indispensable player f...

Lopetegui's struggles at West Ham continue

West Ham United 0 - 5 Liverpool  Liverpool stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points as they thrashed an abject West Ham United at the London Stadium Author - William G Liverpool could have been out of sight early on, squandering several chances before Luis Díaz finally broke the deadlock with a powerful strike on the half-hour mark. Cody Gakpo doubled the lead 10 minutes later, capitalising on Mohamed Salah’s mesmerising footwork, and the Egyptian himself got in on the act with a precise low drive just before half-time – his 20th goal in a remarkable season. West Ham, under Julen Lopetegui, failed to even contain the damage. Trent Alexander-Arnold made it 4-0 nine minutes after the restart, his long-range shot deflecting off Max Kilman to leave Alphonse Areola helpless. For the hosts, only Mohammed Kudus showed any sign of resistance, striking the woodwork in both halves, while Luis Guilherme also hit the frame of the goal late on. However, these f...

Opnion: Stop exploiting the loyalty of fans

Ticket prices are too high  Enough is enough Author - Olivia T It has been another fantastic Premier League season so far.  However, the excitement of what’s shaping up to be an enthralling campaign has been overshadowed by constant news of price increases for fans. The recent announcement that Manchester United will charge a flat price of £66 to all Members for tickets to the remaining matches this season has enraged everyone at European Super Football. This anger has been further fuelled by the revelation that this exorbitant price will apply equally to adults, children, and seniors, regardless of where you sit in the ground. A dreadful decision by the decision-makers at Old Trafford. But United aren’t alone. We've seen significant price increases across much of the Premier League. At Anfield, the Spirit of Shankly group and other Liverpool fans have protested against their own club’s recent ticket price hikes.  One Liverpool supporter told us: “That news came in t...

What's going wrong for Manchester City?

Image
Liverpool 2 - 0 Manchester City Liverpool increased their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points and added to the woes of fading champions Manchester City with a thoroughly deserved victory at Anfield. Author - Macca City fell behind on 12 minutes to a Cody Gapko goal and withstood further pressure from the home side, but dug in and went into break trailing only 1-0. The blues were much more cohesive in the second-half. However, their failure to create any clearcut opportunities was eventually punished by a Mo Salah penalty on 78 minutes. Pep Guardiola made a cheeky gesture towards Liverpool fans, raising six fingers to signify his Premier League title haul, as they gleefully belted out "sacked in the morning" near the end of the match. Premier League: 2024/2025 season The idea of Guardiola facing the sack is, of course, absurd. In a show of mutual respect, he applauded the Liverpool supporters at full-time, and they responded in kind. However, this was an...

Image
Arsenal 2 - 2 Liverpool Mohamed Salah’s late equaliser salvaged a point for Liverpool in a lively clash against Premier League title rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. A closer look at what happened Arsenal’s strong start to this enthralling encounter paid off on the 9th minute when Bukayo Saka left Andy Robertson floundering, netting his 50th Premier League goal in the process. Premier League: Liverpool see off Chelsea

Image
Liverpool 2 - 1 Chelsea Arne Slot's outstanding start as Liverpool manager continued as his side saw off a clearly improved Chelsea at Anfield. Author - Katrine Jonnson  Chelsea are now winless in their last ten matches against Liverpool, including losses in the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup final in 2022, both decided by penalties, along with a defeat at Wembley in extra time last season. Premier League: Forest stun Liverpool

Image
Liverpool 0 - 1 Nottingham Forest Callum Hudson-Odoi and an unbeaten Nottingham Forest shocked Liverpool at Anfield, putting an end to Arne Slot's flawless start as Liverpool manager. Coming off the bench, Hudson-Odoi cut in from the left and curled a perfectly placed shot into the far bottom corner, leaving Alisson with no chance. This marked Forest's first win at Anfield in any competition since 1969. Liverpool had come into the game brimming with confidence, having secured three consecutive wins without conceding a goal. And the home side certainly had the better opportunities in the first half. Luis Diaz came closest for the hosts before the break, chasing down what seemed a lost cause, cutting inside, and smashing a shot against the near post from a tight angle. Forest keeper Matz Sels made an important save to deny Alexis Mac Allister's header and had a lucky escape when he almost let Diaz’s shot slip into his own net moments later. After the break, Forest showed...

Premier League: United errors cost them against Liverpool

Image
Manchester United 0 - 3 Liverpool  Manchester United suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Liverpool at Old Trafford. The match saw United struggle against their arch-rivals, with costly errors leading to Liverpool's goals.  The Red Devils finished the game having had more possession than the opposition but were still defeated comfortably. They looked incapable of putting more than five passes together with Liverpool regularly winning the ball back.  Ten Hag's side have lost two of their opening three matches of a Premier League campaign for the third time in the last five seasons (also happening in 2020-21 and 2022-23), with Erik ten Hag the only manager to suffer that fate twice with the club since the Premier League was formed in 1992.  A closer look at what happened Trent Alexander-Arnold had a goal disallowed for offside before Luis Diaz scored two quick goals just before halftime to give Liverpool a strong lead. Salah scored his 12th goal in 15 ap...

Portuguese forward Jota capitalised on a well-executed Liverpool attack that saw Salah and the impressive Trent Alexander-Arnold combine. Just after the hour mark, Jota calmly slotted Salah’s low cross past Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton. Liverpool doubled their lead just five minutes later when Salah converted a pass from Dominik Szoboszlai, marking his ninth opening-day goal—a new Premier League record. A closer look at what happened Playing their first top-flight match in 22 years, Ipswich put up a strong fight in the first half, coming closest to scoring with Jacob Greaves' downward header and Omari Hutchinson's low drive. Transfer Rumours: Liverpool star heading to Madrid?

Image
Could another English player be moving to Real Madrid? Real Madrid are eager to lure Trent Alexander-Arnold away from Anfield this summer. It has been reported that Trent's England teammate Jude Bellingham might be playing a crucial role in this potential move, as their bond is thought to have deepened during Euro 2024. The midfielder joined Los Blancos last year from Borussia Dortmund and had an outstanding debut season, winning both La Liga and the Champions League, and quickly becoming a key player. It's uncertain whether Real Madrid will follow up their interest with a formal offer for Alexander-Arnold, who came through Liverpool's academy. At the same time, it's unclear if Liverpool would consider letting their versatile right-back go. This is a player that is idolised by the Kopp and other Liverpool fans.  Currently, there has been no discussion about Alexander-Arnold signing a new contract with his boyhood club. Some suggest that Jürgen Klopp's departure...

Liverpool 0 - 2 Arsenal (May 1989) Let's explore another moment of last-day drama in English football's top-flight. Arsenal, who hadn't claimed a league title for nearly twenty years, faced Liverpool on the final day of the 1988-89 season. Liverpoo l were not only the reigning champions but also the dominant force in English football at the time, having won the First Division five times in the previous seven seasons.  Arsenal had other plans. Needing to win by a two-goal margin, the North London side managed a 2-0 victory, with the crucial second goal coming deep into stoppage time from midfielder Michael Thomas.
