PL: Norwich relegated

Image
Aston Villa 2 - 0 Norwich City Norwich were relegated from the Premier League after a defeat against Aston Villa at Villa Park. The loss, coupled with Burnley's dramatic comeback win at Watford, left them bottom of the table and 13 points from safety with only four games left. Their fans continued to support in numbers and with lots of noise. This was despite a relegation that has looked on the cards for some time. Ollie Watkins put Villa ahead in the first half, capitalising on a slip from Brandon Williams before lashing high into the net. That error summed up Norwich's season, as did their lack of potency in front of goal. They created limited openings, while Villa hit the woodwork in each half. Reaction This was the reaction of Norwich manager Dean Smith. Footage from the Norwich YouTube account. One Norwich fan replied: "The sensible fans do not blame you Deano. You've not had a single chance to shape this team the way you want to, and I sincerely hope you g

PL: De Gea frustrates Chelsea

Manchester United 1 - 1 Chelsea Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 17th goal of the season to earn his side a point after David de Gea had frustrated Chelsea with some superb saves. Chelsea were thoroughly dominant in the first half at Old Trafford but were unable to find a way past De Gea, who made saves from Kai Havertz and N'Golo Kante. 🚫 @D_DeGea 's fine form continued during #MUNCHE 💪 #MUFC | #PL — Manchester United (@ManUtd) April 29, 2022 They finally broke the deadlock midway through the second half when Marcos Alonso volleyed home from an angle. Their celebrations had barely finished as Manchester United responded within a minute, Nemanja Matic playing a brilliant ball into the box and Ronaldo taking a touch before thumping a shot into the net. That brought Old Trafford to life - there had been a subdued atmosphere inside the ground up to that point, while discontent against the club's owners was still evidents.  Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig will both take leads into the second of their Europa League semi-finals. West Ham United 1 - 2 Eintracht Frankfurt West Ham will have to come from behind in Germany next week if they are to reach their first European final in 46 years after Eintracht Frankfurt secured a deserved first-leg advantage at London Stadium. The Hammers did recover through Michail Antonio's 11th goal of the season - and his first in the Europa League since September - as he bundled home Kurt Zouma's nod down at the far post. It was Fra

League Two: Exeter City gain promotion

Image
Exeter City 2 - 1  Barrow Matt Jay's late winner saw Exeter City gain promotion from League Two as they came from a goal down to beat Barrow 2-1 in a tense affair at St James Park. The hosts fell behind to a Cameron Dawson own goal after Remeao Hutton's long throw-in from the left appeared to go straight in. Kieran Phillips hit the bar for Exeter 15 minutes later before the striker superbly broke to get the equaliser. Exeter then struggled to create any chances after the break until homegrown skipper Matt Jay coolly finished at the far post from Josh Key's cross from the right. The win sees Exeter return to League One after a decade in the fourth tier of English football. Next season they will pit their wits against the likes of Derby County and Barnsley, who have both been recently relegated from the Championship. Reaction Pádraig Amond tweeted: "Finally promoted from League Two after years of heartbreak. What a night and what a group of people." Another play
