Arsenal 4 - 0 Atlético Madrid Arsenal scored four times in a dazzling 14-minute spell to sweep aside Atletico Madrid  Author | DJ Stadium | Emirates Stadium The home side began with intent, as Eberechi Eze’s deflected shot clipped the crossbar, while Julian Alvarez almost punished David Raya from long range after the goalkeeper ventured out of position. For much of the first half, the contest was tight and tactical, with few clear chances at either end. Gabriel Magalhaes broke the deadlock on 57 minutes, rising to head in Declan Rice’s precise free-kick and spark a remarkable surge. Gabriel Martinelli added a second with a curling finish after a driving run from Myles Lewis-Skelly, before Viktor Gyokeres bundled home to end his seven-game goal drought. The Swedish striker struck again moments later, turning in Gabriel’s knockdown from another Arsenal corner. The result leaves Mikel Arteta’s team with three wins from three and still yet to concede in this season’s competition, a c...

Three wins for the three English sides in the Women's Champions League

Image
It has been a successful week in Europe for three sides in the WSL Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal all picked up three points in the Champions League Author |  Josh T Let's have a closer look at how they all performed. Chelsea 4 - 0 Paris FC Chelsea produced a dominant display to claim a convincing victory, with four different players on the scoresheet in a commanding performance from the Women’s Super League champions. Sonia Bompastor’s side were gifted the opening goal when Sjoeke Nusken was fouled in the box following a VAR review, allowing Sandy Baltimore to calmly slot home from the penalty spot. Paris struggled to settle after the early setback, and Chelsea capitalised on their uncertainty. Erin Cuthbert won possession in midfield and fed winger Thompson, whose precise cross found Johanna Rytting Kaneryd to head past Mylène Chavas, doubling the Blues’ advantage. The hosts’ control and tempo left Paris chasing shadows for much of the half. Barely 90 seconds afte...

Mixed fortunes for the English sides in the Women's Champions League

Image
The league phase of the Women's Champions League has begun... There were mixed fortunes for the English sides, including a defeat for last year's winner. Author | Josh T The action started at Meadow Park as Arsenal hosted Lyon.. A bad start for Arsenal in the defence of their crown Melchie Dumornay punished Arsenal’s defensive errors with two quick goals as Lyon overcame the reigning Champions League holders in the opening round of the league phase. Renee Slegers made five changes to the side that lost 3-2 to Manchester City in the Women’s Super League, but the alterations failed to have the intended impact. Arsenal had started brightly and were rewarded when Alessia Russo put them ahead. However, their attempts to play out from the back repeatedly invited pressure, allowing Lyon, eight-time winners of the competition, to seize control. Once in front, the French champions dominated possession, leaving Arsenal to rely on long balls towards Russo in a frustrated search for ...

Storm Amy didn't disrupt the Premier League

Image
There were wins for Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea Horrendous weather conditions across the country didn't disrupt any of the action. Author |  Josh D Pictures from around the grounds The main talking points A rare home defeat for Leeds United Mohammed Kudus scored one and created another as Tottenham ended Leeds United’s year-long unbeaten home run in the league. Daniel Farke’s side had not lost on their own turf since early September 2024, when Burnley won there in the Championship. But Kudus was the difference on a sodden afternoon in Yorkshire, guiding Spurs back to winning ways after two draws in four days. Mathys Tel opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, latching on to Kudus’s through ball before unleashing a superb 20-yard strike that took a slight deflection off Pascal Struijk to wrongfoot goalkeeper Karl Darlow. As the rain began to fall heavily, Kudus restored Tottenham’s lead with a fine finish from the edge of the box, his low...

Arsenal maintain perfect start to European campaign

Arsenal 2 - 0 Olympiacos Gabriel Martinelli struck early to set Arsenal on their way to a second successive Champions League victory as they overcame Olympiacos. Author | DJ Stadium | Emirates Stadium The Brazilian forward, who had a goal and an assist in the win over Athletic Club on matchday one, was again decisive. When Viktor Gyökeres bulldozed through the home defence only to see his shot pushed onto the post by Konstantinos Tzolakis, Martinelli reacted quickest to turn in the rebound. Bukayo Saka, introduced from the bench, added the second in stoppage time with a low effort that squirmed through the legs of the goalkeeper to confirm the result.  They are now well and track to qualify directly for the last-16 of the competition which will be a huge bonus for Arteta as they look to compete on multiple fronts this season. A closer look at what happened Pre match atmosphere Mikel Arteta, who made six changes from the side that edged Newcastle on Sunday, was able to rotate he...

Arsenal start Champions League campaign with a win

Image
Athletic Club 0 - 2 Arsenal Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard came off the bench to deliver the goals as Arsenal opened their Champions League campaign with victory over Athletic Club. Author | DJ Stadium | San Mames Martinelli needed just 36 seconds to make his mark, racing through to score after being set up by Trossard midway through the second half. The Brazilian then turned provider, beating his man before laying the ball back for Trossard to tuck in a second with four minutes to play. It was far from straightforward for Mikel Arteta’s side. Athletic, returning to the competition for the first time since 2014-15, flew out of the blocks backed by a raucous San Mamés crowd. Alejandro Berenguer was a persistent threat and the hosts had Arsenal penned in for long spells of the first half. The Gunners did create the clearest chance before the interval, Viktor Gyökeres heading wide from close range, but overall struggled to assert themselves. Gyökeres later finished the match...

Arsenal’s Champions League adventure ends in Paris

Image
PSG 2 - 1 Arsenal (PSG won 3-1 on aggregate) Arsenal’s hopes of reaching a first Champions League final since 2006 came to an end in Paris Author - DJ Stadium - Parc des Princes Mikel Arteta’s side arrived needing to overturn a one-goal deficit from the first leg, but once again ran into the formidable presence of Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian goalkeeper, outstanding in the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium, delivered another superb performance with a series of saves that kept Arsenal at bay during a frenetic opening spell. Donnarumma was alert to block Gabriel Martinelli's close-range effort, then produced an even more impressive stop to push away a low, driven shot from Martin Ødegaard as the visitors looked to strike early. Against the run of play, PSG took the lead on the night after 27 minutes. Fabian Ruiz collected a loose clearance from Thomas Partey and unleashed a speculative effort from 20 yards that deflected past David Raya and into the net. READ MORE: Rea...

Arsenal's inconsistent league performances continue

Arsenal 1 - 2 Bournemouth Arsenal’s bid to gather momentum ahead of their crucial Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain was dealt a serious blow Author -  DJ Stadium -  Emirates Stadium Bournemouth staged a superb second-half comeback to claim a famous win at the Emirates and bolster their own European aspirations. A closer look at more lost points for Arsenal Mikel Arteta opted against rotating his starting XI, naming a full-strength side despite the looming trip to Paris on Wednesday, where Arsenal must overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit to reach their first Champions League final since 2006. But despite that show of intent, his side were left reeling after a spirited Bournemouth performance turned the afternoon on its head. It had all started according to plan for the hosts, with Declan Rice marking his 100th appearance for the club in style, rounding Kepa Arrizabalaga to give Arsenal a deserved lead midway through the first half. Dembele gives PSG first-leg lead

Image
Arsenal 0 - 1 PSG Arsenal must come from behind if they are to reach the Champions League final, after Ousmane Dembele's early goal gave Paris Saint-Germain a first-leg advantage at the Emirates Stadium. Author -  DJ Stadium - Emirates Stadium Dembele struck just four minutes in, sweeping a low finish past David Raya after being picked out by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The goal capped a dominant opening spell from the visitors, who pressed high and carved out further chances, including a strong effort from teenager Desire Doue that Raya did well to stop. Once again, PSG were indebted to Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian goalkeeper, who produced key performances in earlier rounds against Liverpool and Aston Villa, was in commanding form, denying Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard with sharp saves either side of half-time. Arsenal grew into the contest and thought they had equalised when Mikel Merino headed in from a Declan Rice free-kick, but a lengthy VAR review ruled the goal...

Rice shines for Arsenal against Champions League holders

Image
Arsenal 3 - 0 Real Madrid Declan Rice lit up the Emirates with two superb free-kicks as Arsenal cruised to a 3–0 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. Author - DJ Stadium - Emirates Stadium Rice had never scored from a free-kick in his career before this match, delivered two moments of brilliance in the second half to put Mikel Arteta’s side in firm control of the tie. Ahead of kick-off, Arteta had called on the home support to arrive early and generate a big-game atmosphere. The fans responded, and so did the players, as Arsenal made an energetic start and put Madrid under early pressure with a series of threatening crosses. It wasn’t until the 20th minute that the visitors created anything of note, with Vinícius Júnior curling a shot narrowly wide. After the break, Arsenal turned their dominance into goals. The breakthrough came in the 58th minute, when Rice bent a free-kick around the wall and beyond Thibaut Courtois to open the scori...

Can Arsenal shock Real Madrid?

Image
Arsenal v Real Madrid Preview Los Blancos will make their first-ever competitive appearance at the Emirates Stadium. Author - DJ While the 15-time winners have beaten 111 teams in the competition’s history, Arsenal are not one of them courtesy of their famous last-16 success in the only previous meaningful meetings between the teams back in 2006. While Arteta's looking to reach the final four for just a third time, Madrid’s love affair with the competition sees them looking to make that a reality for the fifth consecutive season.  Real Madrid head into the first leg knowing that no team has beaten Arsenal in North London in 10 Champions League games since their return to the competition last season. An extension of that run would put them in a superb place before a visit to the Spanish capital eight days later. Who remembers this match from 2006? Arsenal's title hopes take another hit

Image
Everton 1 - 1 Arsenal Arsenal's already slim hopes of lifting the Premier League trophy took a significant hit as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park. Author - Sarah W Stadium - Goodison Park The draw leaves leaders Liverpool needing just 11 points from their final eight fixtures – beginning with Fulham on Sunday – to clinch the championship. The opening half-hour was scrappy and disjointed, offering little in the way of rhythm or quality. But it was Arsenal who struck first on 34 minutes, with Leandro Trossard finishing smartly on the counter following a precise ball from Raheem Sterling – the game's first shot on target. Trossard nearly doubled his tally just before the break, but his close-range effort was clawed away by Jordan Pickford, with Declan Rice’s follow-up blocked in the crowded box. Saka inspires Arsenal on return

Image
Arsenal 2 - 1 Fulham Bukayo Saka wasted no time making an impact on his return from injury, scoring just seven minutes after coming on to help Arsenal secure victory over Fulham at the Emirates Stadium. Author - DJ Stadium - Emirates Stadium The England winger had been sidelined for 101 days but came off the bench in the second half with Arsenal leading 1-0. He quickly reminded everyone what they’d been missing, heading in Gabriel Martinelli’s flick at the far post in the 73rd minute. Mikel Merino had earlier put the Gunners in front after 37 minutes, his shot taking a deflection and nestling into the corner following Ethan Nwaneri’s cut-back. Fulham did manage a late consolation, with Rodrigo Muniz’s shot deflecting off William Saliba and wrong-footing David Raya in stoppage time. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford Arsenal were dominant in the first half at Old Trafford but struggled to make their superiority count and were punished on the stroke of half-time when United captain Bruno Fernandes curled a superb 25-yard free-kick beyond David Raya, who had positioned himself poorly. Arsenal score seven against PSV

Image
PSV Eindhoven 1 - 7 Arsenal Arsenal put one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a ruthless demolition of PSV. They can still finish this season with a trophy. Author - DJ Stadium - Philips Stadion Mikel Arteta’s side were in complete control from the outset, racing into a three-goal lead before half-time before adding four more in a dominant second-half display. With a trip to Madrid now looming, progression to the next stage looks all but secured. PSV had an early glimmer of hope when Ismael Saibari struck the crossbar, but Arsenal quickly took charge. Jurrien Timber opened the scoring in the 18th minute, and within moments, 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri doubled the lead, finishing emphatically after a sharp cutback from Myles Lewis-Skelly. There was a moment of fortune for Lewis-Skelly, who had already been booked, when he escaped further punishment for a foul on Richard Ledezma. Sensing the risk, Arteta swiftly withdrew him, bringing on Riccardo Calafiori before the bre...

Toothless Arsenal dealt major blow

Image
Arsenal 0 - 2 West Ham United Arsenal missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool, as West Ham ended their four-game winless streak with a superb win at the Emirates. Author - DJ Stadium - Emirates Stadium Jarrod Bowen struck the decisive goal against a lacklustre Gunners side, who later saw youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly sent off. A win would have put Arsenal within five points of Arne Slot’s Liverpool, ahead of their trip to Manchester City on Sunday. But Mikel Arteta’s side never found their rhythm, struggling to break down a resilient West Ham defence while also conceding the better chances over the 90 minutes. Bowen’s goal, his 50th in the Premier League, came late in the first half as he started and finished the move himself. After picking up a loose ball on the edge of his own area, he fed Aaron Wan-Bissaka and then continued his run, stooping low to head home the full-back’s cross. It was the first time this season that Arsenal had gone be...

Arsenal show title credentials again

Image
Leicester City 0 - 2 Arsenal Arsenal moved to within four points of Premier League leaders Liverpool after substitute Mikel Merino struck twice late on to secure victory over a battling Leicester City. Author - DJ Stadium - King Power Stadium With the Gunners struggling for cutting edge up front, it looked as though their lack of firepower—exacerbated by Kai Havertz’s hamstring injury during their Dubai training camp—might cost them. Raheem Sterling, enduring a torrid evening, was withdrawn, and Merino made an immediate impact, arriving at the far post in the 81st minute to finally break Leicester’s resistance. The goal was crafted by 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, Arsenal’s standout performer, who had twice been denied by the woodwork in the second half and was their most dangerous outlet throughout. Merino struck again three minutes from time, once more ghosting in at the far post to seal a crucial win and keep Arsenal firmly in the title race. Leicester, to their credit, had matched...
