Could Nottingham Forest win the Premier League?

Image
Wolves 0 - 3 Nottingham Forest Morgan Gibbs-White played a starring role as Nottingham Forest secured a clinical victory over Wolves, with new England manager Thomas Tuchel watching from the stands. Author -  Kieran M   The midfielder silenced the boos from the home crowd early on, scoring the opener just seven minutes in. Gibbs-White, who left Wolves for Forest in 2022, had the perfect response to his former club's jeers. Chris Wood doubled the lead just before half-time, notching his 12th goal of the season, while Taiwo Awoniyi sealed the win in stoppage time, finishing off a swift counter-attack. Wolves, however, had their opportunities. Joao Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen forced saves from Forest keeper Matz Sels, and Larsen was denied by a remarkable goal-line clearance from Murillo. This marked Forest’s 12th league victory of the season—three more than their total for the entire previous campaign. The win showcased the team’s key strengths, with opposition sides cont...

Wolves continue revival under new boss

Image
Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 2 Wolves Jorgen Strand Larsen’s late equaliser salvaged a point for Wolves in a chaotic Premier League draw with Tottenham, continuing Vítor Pereira’s strong start as Wolves manager. Author - Greg S Wolves took an early lead when an unmarked Hwang Hee-chan calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box, capitalising on a lapse in the Spurs defence at a free-kick. Spurs responded swiftly, with Rodrigo Bentancur nodding in a powerful close-range header from Pedro Porro’s pinpoint corner. Moments later, they were handed a golden opportunity to take the lead when Brennan Johnson was brought down by Andre in the box. However, Wolves keeper José Sá guessed correctly, denying Son Heung-min from the spot. The missed penalty didn’t deter Totten ham’s attacking momentum. A slick exchange between Dejan Kulusevski and Johnson in a crowded box ended with Johnson firing a precise low shot into the net to give Spurs the lead. Wolves appoint ex-Porto...

A bad Boxing Day for Manchester United

Image
Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 - 0 Manchester United Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes saw red for the third time this season, as Wolves maintained their perfect start under new manager Vítor Pereira with a 2-0 win over the Red Devils. Author - Olivia T Fernandes was sent off just two minutes into the second half after receiving a second yellow card. This follows earlier dismissals against Tottenham and Porto, adding to what has been a frustrating campaign for the United skipper. Was this a significant moment in the match? Wolves wasted no time making their numerical advantage count. Eleven minutes later, Matheus Cunha delivered a moment of déjà vu for United fans, scoring directly from a corner—just as Tottenham’s Son Heung-min had done a week earlier. Cunha’s delivery floated over André Onana’s reach in a packed six-yard box, exposing United’s continued struggles to defend set-pieces. The game was put to bed deep into added time. With United desperately searching for an equali...

New boss inspires Wolves to win over Leicester

Image
Leicester City 0 - 3 Wolves Vítor Pereira’s debut as a Premier League manager was pretty much perfect.  A two-time league champion with Porto, Pereira has finally been given his chance in England – and it couldn’t have started much more comfortably. Author - Jamie P Wolves found themselves 3-0 up by half-time, but that’s not to say Pereira has instantly turned them into a free-scoring machine. Instead, they simply capitalised on their opportunities when they arose. The opener came after Nelson Semedo lofted a speculative ball down the right channel. Somehow, it made its way to Gonçalo Guedes in the box. The Portuguese forward, making just his second league start of the season, hooked it past Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward with Wolves’ first shot under Pereira’s management. The second goal had a touch of fortune about it. Matt Doherty sent a hopeful diagonal ball towards Leicester’s right-back, James Justin, who allowed it to roll past him – unaware that Joao Gomes had sneaked ...

Premier League: 2024/2025 season The club had been exploring potential candidates for several weeks, considering options such as former West Ham boss David Moyes. However, Pereira emerged as the frontrunner and was swiftly appointed. The 56-year-old boasts an impressive CV, having won back-to-back Primeira Liga titles with Porto in 2012 and 2013, as...

Image
Wolves 1 - 2 Ipswich Town Jack Taylor's last-gasp header earned Ipswich a priceless win at Molineux, a match that resulted in the sacking of Wolves manager Gary O'Neil. Author - Liam C 🚨🟠 BREAKING: Wolves have sacked head coach Gary O’Neil following defeat vs Ipswich Town. #WWFC pic.twitter.com/dghhjHTMqw — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) December 15, 2024 Taylor's winner in the 93rd minute secured the Tractor Boys' second victory of the season, and tensions flared on the pitch between the two teams at full-time. The now former Wolves boss watched on helplessly as the second-to-last place Wolves conceded a disastrous opening goal due to Matt Doherty's unfortunate own goal. Additionally, Taylor's late winner from a corner has left Wolves three points behind Ipswich and four points away from safety.  Why are Wolves making a managerial change? This was their 11th Premier League defeat of the season – with only two wins to their name – leaving the Black Co...

Author - Craig H from GMCR Football  Both managers were under the spotlight going into Wednesday’s clash after their teams had each shipped four goals at the weekend. While Wolves fans turned on O’Neil, especially after Craig Dawson's two own goals, Everton boss Sean Dyche enjoyed watching his side deliver a much-needed dominant display, lifting them five points clear of the relegation zone. After four games without a goal, Everton made the perfect start. Ashley Young’s sublime 25-yard free-kick bent around the wall and nestled beautifully into the bottom-right corner, ending their scoring drought in style. Elsewhere in the Premier League Six minutes later, it looked like Everton had doubled their lead when James Tarkowski powered in a header from Dwight McNeil’s cro...

The pair reversed roles later, as Cunha netted his second with a spectacular strike from the edge of the area. Fulham’s misery deepened when Joachim Andersen p...

Premier League: Stones scores controversial winner

Image
Wolves 1 - 2 Manchester City The Premier League champions secured their sixth win in eight games this season with a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. Author - Sean M The match ended in controversy when John Stones scored a dramatic header in the 95th minute from Phil Foden’s corner. Initially, the goal was disallowed for offside, but after a VAR review, referee Chris Kavanagh reversed the decision, allowing the goal to stand, much to Wolves' frustration. Earlier in the match, Josko Gvardiol equalised for the hosts after Jorgen Strand Larsen had given Wolves the lead. Unfortunately for Wolves, they remain winless this season and currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table. What happened then? In the final seconds of stoppage time, Foden delivered a corner kick that Stones headed powerfully into the net.  However, as the Manchester City players celebrated, the linesman raised his flag to signal an offside, noting that Bernardo Silva was standing in fro...

At the start of the match, both sides struggled to find a way out of midfield, but the South Korean forward eventually netted with the help of a deflection off defender Teden Mengi just 18 seconds after Carlton Morris was unable to convert Luton's best opportunity of the opening 45 minutes, heading straight at Jose Sa. Wolves showed their intent after the break and doubled their advantage in just five minutes when Toti Gomes found space to head in at the far post. Gary O'Neil's sid...

Transfer Rumours: United linked with Gomes

Image
Let's explore another transfer rumour Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.  United are looking to sign a holding midfielder this summer and they have identified the £40million-rated Gomes as someone who can take them forward. Premier League news and stories: 2023/2024 Premier League: Wolves and Man United play out a classic  Wolves are aware there will be interest in Gomes over the next few months. Premier League: Wolves and Man United play out a classic

Image

Mainoo elegantly curled in his maiden Premier League goal, slipping it past Jose Sa just moments after Pedro Neto seemed to have salvaged a draw for Wolves. Despite being 2-0 down at halftime and 3-1 behind on 85 minutes, Wolves managed to pull level. However, Manchester United clinched the three points thanks to 18-year-old Mainoo. He collected the ball on the left, skillfully nutmegged Max Kilman, cut inside, and beautifully bent the ball into the bottom corner. The scoring began with Marcus Rashford, who, five minutes into his return for United after missing the FA Cup win over Newport County , opened the scoring. Rasmus Hojlund then doubled the lead. Pablo Sarabia pulled one back from the penalty spot, and Scott McTominay seemingly made it secure for the visitors by hea...

Premier League: United start with a tense win

Image
Manchester United 1 - 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers It was a better start for United than last season, but this was unconvincing on their first match of the season.  Raphael Varane secured the decisive goal with just 14 minutes remaining, propelling Manchester United to a somewhat lucky victory.  Until Bruno Fernandes' brilliant pass set up Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the penalty area, Erik ten Hag's team struggled to create meaningful scoring opportunities. With composure, the right-back skillfully lofted the ball that was bouncing unpredictably towards the outskirts of the six-yard box. It was at this juncture that Varane's superior height came into play, allowing him to outjump Nelson Semedo and elegantly direct a header into the net. Was this penalty There was a hugely controversial moment in the match. Watch the video and let us know if you thought it was a penalty. Premier League: Everton secure dramatic draw against Wolves

Image
Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 - 1 Everton Everton struck nine minutes into injury time to slightly boost their survival hopes and deny Wolves a fifth straight home success in the Premier League. A very important goal for Everton. https://t.co/IlqFoRT8ul pic.twitter.com/DRTEvyAM6o — SuperFootball (@ESFootballNews) May 21, 2023 It looked like Hee Chan Hwang had scored the winner for Wolves when he turned home the rebound after a lung-bursting run and powerful effort from Adama Traore, and his side could have put the game beyond doubt with chances either side of the break at Molineux.   Instead, relegation-threatened Everton earned their point at the death when James Tarkowski beat Dan Bentley in the air and Yerry Mina turned in from close range. The Everton boss Sean Dyche told the media: "Formation and tactics doesn't always win games, mentality wins games and gets us a point today with a firm mentality and people not making excuses. Premier League: Man United strengthen their bid for a top-four finish

Image
Manchester United 2 - 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers Manchester United bounced back from consecutive Premier League to strengthen their bid for a top-four finish. Antony provided the assist for United's first-half breakthrough. He was played in by Bruno Fernandes, and the winger squared to Anthony Martial for what was an easy tap-in. More Premier League news can be found here:  Premier League news (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Antony had another opportunity to get on the scoresheet in the second half but he drove a shot just wide of the post after being set up by a Fernandes backheel. Premier League: Wolves win West Midlands derby

Image
Wolves 1 - 0 Aston Villa Victory on derby day over Aston Villa tasted all the sweeter for Wolves as it left them within touching distance of survival. Toti Gomes' bullet header settled a typically lively West Midlands clash and secured Wolves a fourth successive Molineux triumph. This has created a ten-point gap between them and the drop zone. Toti’s first goal for the club proved to be the game's only goal, with striking duo Matheus Cunha and Diego Costa both coming close, but it mattered not as a fiery atmosphere brought home the three points. This could lead to Premier League safety soon rather than later.  Let's explore the post-match reaction from the West Midlands. The full-time whistle sparked joyous scenes of celebration and another Premier League season is now within touching distance for the club. Premier League: Wolves edge closer to safety

Image
Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 - 0 Crystal Palace Wolves gave their survival hopes a massive lift with what turned out to be a fairly comfortable win over Palace. In a match that was low on clear-cut chances, Wolves went in front after three minutes when Ruben Neves' corner bounced off the knee of Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen and in off the crossbar. A slightly nervy affair was settled by Neves' stoppage-time penalty as Wolves, who were bottom of the table when Lopetegui took charge in November, moved nine points clear of the relegation zone. This surely means survival for the home side.  Premier League news (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Albert Sambi Lokonga came closest to providing a Palace equaliser before half-time but his snap-shot from eight yards out was saved by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa. This was almost doubled when Ruben Neves hit the post right on the stroke of half-time at Selhurst Park.  The game started to look very different once the second half had started. Palace never looked back once Eberechi Eze nodded them level from Michael Olise's pinpoint cross just 63 seconds into the second half. Zaha then took Odsonne Edouard's pass in his stride before drilling past Jose Sa for his fifth goal of the season to lift Palace up to 10th place in the Premier League table.  Wolves remain 17th and just one point above the relegation places. They came close to rescuing a point in London but Neves' late strike was superbly beaten away by Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita. ...
