Scotland: Celtic cruise to a win at Easter Road

Image
Hibernian 0 - 2 Celtic A brilliant goal from Callum McGregor helped Celtic secure a comfortable Scottish Premiership victory over Hibernian at Easter Road. Nicolas Kuhn opened the scoring within three minutes, capitalising on a mistake by Hibs’ goalkeeper Josef Bursik, who failed to deal with Kyogo's initial shot. McGregor, who had announced his retirement from international football earlier in the week, then doubled Celtic's lead with a stunning left-footed strike from 25 yards, capping off an excellent first-half performance. Brendan Rodgers’ side could have added more goals if not for the woodwork, but they will be satisfied with taking three points from a ground where they have struggled at times under Rodgers' management. Scotland: Darvel cause huge shock (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) However, two Campbell finishes and an Elie Youan header had Hibs cruising before Kevin Nisbet scored after the break. Campbell's third came from the spot as Liam Scales was sent off before Will Fish completed Aberdeen's dismal day. Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin went for experience on the day. He brought back the on-loan Wigan Athletic midfielder Graeme Shinnie and wing-back Jonny Hayes along with top scorer Bojan Miovski foll

Scottish Premiership: All the Boxing Day action

Image
Despite reduced crowds, there were plenty of goals on an action-packed Boxing Day in the Scottish Premiership. St Johnstone 1 - 3 Celtic Celtic emerged from a "chaotic couple of days" to inflict St Johnstone's eighth consecutive defeat. Two goals from Liel Abada's first-half double had the visitors in total command until Chris Kane halved the deficit. Nir Bitton eventually put the result beyond doubt when he scored a late third to send Celtic into the winter break six points adrift of leaders Rangers who won later in the day. One Celtic fan told us: "It was a solid performance. We need to keep winning and who knows where the season will finish?" ⏰ Unique Angle ⚽️⚽️ Abada ⚽️ Bitton pic.twitter.com/hmdLlpfaKn — Celtic TV (@CelticTV) December 27, 2021 Rangers 2 - 0 St Mirren Scott Wright scored an opening header before Alfredo Morelos slammed in a first-half second at Ibrox. Scotland: Celtic lift League Cup

Hibernian 1 - 2 Celtic Let's have a look at how the match unfolded and some of the best reaction Kyogo Furuhashi inspired Celtic to their first trophy under Ange Postecoglou with a compelling Scottish League Cup final victory over Hibernian. The Japanese forward finished smartly to get Celtic level within a minute of them going behind to Paul Hanlon's towering header for Hibs. He was then too quick for Hibs' defenders as he latched on to a quick free-kick to lob Matt Macey and win Celtic the trophy. The Celtic boss was delighted Ange Postecoglou spoke with the media after the match: "I can't guarantee success, but I wanted to give the fans hope and they saw that from the first day. It hasn't been smooth, we have had ups and downs, but I think they saw hope in us. "The players are so resilient. I'm so happy they have had their rewards for it today." 🗣 Ange Postecoglou on Kyogo: “Good luck trying to keep him out today mate, there was no cha

Scottish League Cup: Rangers 1 - 3 Hibernian

Martin Boyle's stunning first-half hat-trick booked Hibernian's place in the League Cup final against Celtic in front of new Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Boyle's three goals came in 29 crazy minutes. He first came after scooping in from a corner. He then smashed a fine finish and a penalty past Allan McGregor. Scott Arfield gave Rangers a small lifeline at the end of a brilliant half. The Scottish champions failed to test goalkeeper Matt Macey in a lacklustre second 45 minutes.  It turned out a miserable start to the post-Steven Gerrard era. Van Bronckhorst is expected to take control on Monday.  The Ibrox club have now progressed beyond the semi-final stage of the two cup competitions just once in their last nine attempts. They will be desperate to sort that out in the Scottish Cup. More Hibs reaction Hibernian posted this video after the match.
