PL News: Ten Hag sacked by Man United

Image
There has been a managerial change at Old Trafford. Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag due to the club's disappointing start to the season. Author - Olivia T Ten Hag's last match ended in a 2-1 defeat against West Ham , leaving the club in 14th place in the Premier League with only three wins from their first nine matches. The Red Devils are also 21st of 36 teams in the Europa League league stage, having drawn their three opening matches. Club sources from the club have reportedly suggested that this was a difficult decision but a unanimous one among all the key decision makers.  The club exercised a one-year extension in Ten Hag's contract after their FA Cup final win against Manchester City in May . However, just over three months later, he has been dismissed. United currently sit on 11 points after nine games, marking their second-lowest tally in the Premier League at this stage (only slightly better than the 10 points they had in the 2019-20 season)

Transfer News: Everton reject Branthwaite bid from Man United

Image
More transfer news from Old Trafford and Goodison Park Everton have turned down a second offer from Manchester United, this time around £45m, for their defender Jarrad Branthwaite . Last month, the Toffees also rejected a £35m bid from United for the 22-year-old England international. It's believed that United's revised offer included potential additional payments if certain targets were achieved. This still falls short of Everton's valuation. Branthwaite has shone as a left-sided central defender at Goodison Park, playing a crucial role in helping the Merseyside club avoid relegation last season despite two points deductions for breaching financial loss rules. United are eager to bolster their central defence options and have been in talks over Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt , who is currently representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024. With Raphael Varane having left the club, there has been no confirmation yet of a new one-year deal for veteran Northern Ireland

Transfer News: Raya signs for Arsenal permanently

Image
Do you think this is a good permanent move Arsenal fans? The Gunners have activated the £27m option to permanently buy Brentford goalkeeper David Raya after his successful loan spell last season. Raya kept 16 Premier League clean sheets for the Gunners to win the Golden Glove, conceding just 16 league goals in the campaign. He did have an underwhelming start to the season. His lowest point came after making two errors in Arsenal's last-gasp 4-3 win over Luton in December. Arsenal already had a settled keeper in Aaron Ramsdale, who had played all 38 league matches the previous season, keeping 14 clean sheets. Still, boss Mikel Arteta opted for a new option. Raya was praised by Arteta for his passing out from the back ended any doubt about his position in March when he saved two penalties as Arsenal beat Porto in a shootout to reach the quarter-

PL News: United trigger extension to Ten Hag contract

Image
United are expected to make many personnel changes this summer. The manager won't be one of them.   Manchester United have activated a one-year extension in Erik ten Hag's contract, ensuring he remains with the club until 2026. The Dutch manager's original contract, signed upon his appointment in 2022, was set to expire in 2025. Since joining from Ajax, Ten Hag has secured two trophies in his two years at Old Trafford. In Ten Hag's first season at the club, United finished third in the Premier League and ended a six-year trophy drought by defeating Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final. However, his second season was more challenging, with United finishing eighth in the Premier League and exiting the Champions League at the group stage. A crucial 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May was key to Ten Hag retaining his position. Following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment last December, the club, led by the co-owner, conducted a review of the season

Manchester United are in discussions with Erik ten Hag about a new contract, having decided he will stay on as manager for next season. Following their end-of-season review, United concluded that Ten Hag is the right person to lead them forward under the new regime headed by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. After winning the FA Cup , he was left in limbo for two-and-a-half weeks as United considered whether to replace him. However, they felt it was important for the new ownership to conduct a thorough assessment. While Ten Hag led United to their lowest-ever Premier League finish, in eighth place, and a group-stage exit from the Champions League, they also considered his achievement of securing two trophies in as many years, including a third-place finish in his debut campaign. Ten Hag attributed last season's struggles, which he described as "horrible,

The former Shakhtar Donetsk coach De Zerbi joined the Seagulls in September 2022 on a four-year deal. This campaign hasn't been as good but they have never looked in any danger of anything like a relegation battle.  They did have a great run in the Europa League . The Seagulls enjoyed Europa League wins over Ajax, Marseille and AEK Athens to top their group before being knocked out eventually by Roma. It remains to be seen where De Zerbi will be going next, but he has been linked with m
