Preston North End 0 - 3 Leicester City  Two goals from Jamie Vardy helped Leicester City sealed the Championship title as the Foxes cruised to a crowning victory at Preston North End. Leicester kept the majority of possession in the game’s early stages and created the first chance of note in the 15th minute when Freddie Woodman came out to deny Vardy an opening goal. Jamie  Vardy's goals had previously fired the Foxes to a Premier League title and FA Cup glory. He eventually added to his reputation as a Leicester City icon with a goal in each half to take his overall season tally to 20 in all competitions. Kasey McAteer then added a third with for a Leicester side that has almost dominated this match from start to finish. They have become the fourth club – after Burnley, Fulham and Norwich - in as many years to make an immediate return to the Premier League Championship title winners following relegation. The race for automatic promotion to the Premier League is shaping up to be a nail-biter. Last season's relegated teams Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton are all eager to make a swift return to the top flight.  However, Kieran McKenna's Ipswich side currently holds the lead at the top of the table in a tense four-way contest. As the new year rolled in, Enzo Maresca's Leicester seemed destined to secure promotion straight back to the Premier League. They were sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table, boasting a commanding 13-point lead over Southampton in third place.  Leicester City 2 - 1 Birmingham City The Foxes overcame a stubborn Birmingham City side and took all three points at the King Power on Saturday afternoon.  They have now moved a little closer to a Premier League return.  In the game, Dewsbury-Hall scored the first goal for the Foxes in the first half. However, Mads Hermansen made a terrible mistake and deflected the ball off Jay Stansfield, causing an own goal. With just a few minutes left in normal time, Stephy Mavididi scored a header, securing the win for the hosts.  This sent the home fans wild.  Chelsea 4 - 2 Leicester City Chelsea narrowly avoided a major upset against Leicester City to secure their place in the FA Cup semi-finals, thanks to two stoppage-time goals.  The Foxes were trailing 2-0 until an own goal by Axel Disasi from 35 yards out brought them back into the game. Stephy Mavididi then scored a fantastic equaliser for the visitors, which led to a tense atmosphere at Stamford Bridge, with the home fans voicing their displeasure with manager Mauricio Pochettino.  However, late goals from substitutes Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke secured the win for Chelsea in a dramatic second half. A red card with 17 minutes to go for Leicester defender Callum Doyle proved crucial. He fouled Nicolas Jackson and, having been initially been shown a yellow card and a penalty given, the video assistant referee ruled the foul was outside of the box but upgraded his yellow to red. Leicester City 1 - 1 Ipswich Town Jeremy Sarmiento scored a late equaliser against Championship leaders Leicester City at the King Power Stadium and guided his Ipswich team back into the coveted automatic promotion spots. Initially, Leicester seemed on the verge of extending their lead by 10 points , courtesy of an own goal by Leif Davis in the first half. The second half had more excitement, featuring Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen's spectacular save from Wes Burns and Kasey McAteer's valiant effort cleared off the line at the other end. When Hermansen could only parry a Massimo Luongo shot in the area, Brighton loanee Sarmiento seized the opportunity, swiftly scoring a shot that eluded the Danish goalkeeper. This marked the second time in four weeks that Ipswich snatched a late draw against Leicester, following a similar feat on Boxing Day at Portman Road. Southampton 1 - 4 Leicester City Jamie Vardy scored after 21 seconds to set Leicester City up for a comfortable victory at Southampton. Leicester went in at half-time 3-1 in front after goals from McAteer (18'minutes) and Ndidi (45'+3minutes) put them in a comfortable position. A goal from Edozie gave them some brief hope as they temporarily reduced the deficit. Former Juventus forward Mavididi missed a huge opportunity just after the hour but made amends with the night's best goal. Many Southampton fans are concerned about the goals they were conceding. Last season's beaten Championship play-off finalists looked on course for three points when they led through Kyle McFadzean's 47th-minute opener from a corner.  Leicester City have sacked manager Brendan Rodgers following a 2-1 defeat by Crystal Palace. Rodgers was appointed in February 2019 and led the club to its first FA Cup triumph in 2021.  However, their recent form has been really poor and they now face a battle to stay in the Premier League.  In a statement on the club website , chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said performances and results this season have been below expectations. The statement reads: "It had been our belief that continuity and stability would be key to correcting our course, particularly given our previous achievements under Brendan's management. "Regrettably, the desired improvement has not been forthcoming and with 10 games of the season remaining, the board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status."
