FA Cup: Gateshead 0 - 2 Charlton

Charlton Athletic saw off a battling performance from National League North side Gateshead to reach the third round of the FA Cup. Jayden Stockley opened the scoring for Charlton, heading home Conor Washington's cross in the 30th minute. They doubled their advantage after the break when Ben Purrington's volley deflected in off Stockley. Gateshead created many chances, with forward Macauley Langstaff blazing wildly over the bar after a one-on-one with goalkeeper Stephen Henderson in the second half. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 800th goal of his career as Manchester United came from behind to beat Arsenal in a thrilling match. New United interim boss Ralf Rangnick and former England captain David Beckham both enjoyed a thrilling encounter Emile Smith Rowe drove home from the edge of the area, while United keeper David de Gea was lying on the ground, seemingly injured, with his back to play. It remains to be seen whether he would carry on as manager of Italy throughout the Qatar World Cup should they qualify. Barcelona looking to re-build Barcelona has offered Manchester United the opportunity to sign Brazil winger Philippe Coutinho. He would become one of very few players to play for both Liverpool and Manchester United. Following this period of six months, Ralf and Manchester United have agreed that he will continue in a consultancy role for a further two years. Now for an update from Scotland as Celtic and Rangers both win Celtic 2 - 1 Aberdeen Callum McGregor's bizarre winner earned Celtic victory over Aberdeen and made sure they remain four points behind Rangers. Jota's finish broke the deadlock on 20 minutes, but Liel Abada's trip on David Bates allowed Lewis Ferguson to equalise from the penalty spot. Celtic stepped up the intensity in the second period and scored a lucky winner, with a clearance rebounding off McGregor into the net. Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass will be annoyed at losing in such circumstances after his team put in a brave defensive display. The reality is the defeat extends their losing streak to three games. Steven Gerrard says his Villa side still have room for improvement after he secured his second win as manager with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The former Liverpool captain was jubilant when Matt Targett put Villa ahead with a low drive through a crowd of bodies from Ashley Young's corner on 15 minutes.
