More Premier League misery at Old Trafford

Image
Manchester United 0 - 2 West Ham United It was another disappointing afternoon in the Premier League for the Europa League finalists. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford Tomas Soucek and captain Jarrod Bowen were on target as West Ham ended a run of eight Premier League matches without a win, easing to victory over a Manchester United side whose preparations for the Europa League final appear increasingly uncertain. United named a starting XI featuring five players expected to line up against Tottenham in Bilbao on 21 May, but the match brought more questions than answers. Most troubling for Rúben Amorim was the injury to Leny Yoro, who left the pitch visibly distressed after sustaining a foot problem and headed straight down the tunnel. The setback prompted the immediate withdrawal of Luke Shaw, a potential option in the back three for the final in Spain. The defeat means United have now matched their longest winless run in the Premier League since 1992. On that occasion, the...

West Ham left frustrated by determined Saints

Image
West Ham United 1 - 1 Southampton Lesley Ugochukwu scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to earn bottom side Southampton a deserved point at West Ham, ensuring they avoided matching Derby County’s infamous Premier League record for the fewest points in a season. Author - Jamie P Stadium - London Stadium The 19-year-old midfielder struck in the 93rd minute, driving the ball in off the post to cancel out Jarrod Bowen’s earlier opener at London Stadium. The result takes Southampton to 11 points for the campaign, equalling Derby’s total from the 2007–08 season , with five matches remaining to move clear of that unwanted milestone. Southampton, fighting to avoid the ignominy of becoming the Premier League’s worst-ever side , produced a performance full of energy and purpose. The away support erupted at full-time, not just in celebration but in clear relief. By contrast, West Ham were greeted by boos as their winless run in the league stretched to six matches. Frustration conti...

Wolves move further away from relegation zone

Image
Wolves 1 - 0 West Ham United Jørgen Strand Larsen continued his fine form with his third goal in two games as Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a crucial victory over West Ham United, easing their relegation concerns. Author - Jamie P Stadium - Molineux Stadium The Norwegian forward, who missed the international break with a fractured hand, made an instant impact on his return, notching his 10th Premier League goal of the season. With Wolves still without the suspended Matheus Cunha, it was Strand Larsen who stepped up, steering home in the 21st minute after an intricate run from João Gomes—his effort helped on its way by a slight deflection off former Wolves defender Max Kilman. The hosts almost doubled their advantage five minutes later following another driving run from Gomes, but Marshall Munetsi’s effort rattled the crossbar after a smart link-up with Strand Larsen. West Ham, sluggish in the first half, should have drawn level early on when Evan Ferguson—handed his first sta...

Toothless Arsenal dealt major blow

Image
Arsenal 0 - 2 West Ham United Arsenal missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool, as West Ham ended their four-game winless streak with a superb win at the Emirates. Author - DJ Stadium - Emirates Stadium Jarrod Bowen struck the decisive goal against a lacklustre Gunners side, who later saw youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly sent off. A win would have put Arsenal within five points of Arne Slot’s Liverpool, ahead of their trip to Manchester City on Sunday. But Mikel Arteta’s side never found their rhythm, struggling to break down a resilient West Ham defence while also conceding the better chances over the 90 minutes. Bowen’s goal, his 50th in the Premier League, came late in the first half as he started and finished the move himself. After picking up a loose ball on the edge of his own area, he fed Aaron Wan-Bissaka and then continued his run, stooping low to head home the full-back’s cross. It was the first time this season that Arsenal had gone be...

Jean-Philippe Mateta inspires Crystal Palace

Image
West Ham United 0 - 2 Crystal Palace Jean-Philippe Mateta's double secured a vital away win for Crystal Palace against West Ham in the Premier League. Author - Peter Grainger Mateta opened the scoring after latching onto a superb through ball from Eberechi Eze, calmly slotting it low past Hammers goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański into the bottom corner. Late drama unfolded with two minutes to go when Mateta played a neat pass to Eddie Nketiah, who was clattered by Fabiański in the box. Mateta stepped up for the resulting penalty, and although Fabiański got a touch, the ball squirmed under him to seal the victory for Palace. The match saw more frustration for West Ham, who were reduced to 10 men in the 80th minute. Konstantinos Mavropanos was shown a second yellow card after tangling with Mateta and catching him in the face with a high boot. The win moves Palace up to 12th in the table, while West Ham slip to 14th, sitting just a point behind their opponents. Premier League: 2024/2025 s...

Manchester City looking to boost Champions League hopes

Image
Manchester City v West Ham United preview Manchester City kick off their 2025 Premier League campaign with a home fixture against a struggling West Ham United side. Author - Macca The reigning champions have endured a tough spell, winning just one of their previous 13 games across all competitions before last weekend’s trip to the King Power Stadium. However, they managed a much-needed, albeit scrappy, win in the East Midlands, with Savinho playing a starring role.  On paper, a visit from West Ham might seem like a straightforward task for Pep Guardiola’s side, but City’s recent form at the Etihad has been anything but convincing. They’ve managed just one win in their last five home matches and were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Everton in their most recent outing on home soil. As for West Ham, their form had been on the up before a humbling 5-0 defeat to league leaders Liverpool halted their progress. Head coach Julen Lopetegui had been under less pressure in recent weeks,...

Lopetegui's struggles at West Ham continue

West Ham United 0 - 5 Liverpool  Liverpool stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points as they thrashed an abject West Ham United at the London Stadium Author - William G Liverpool could have been out of sight early on, squandering several chances before Luis Díaz finally broke the deadlock with a powerful strike on the half-hour mark. Cody Gakpo doubled the lead 10 minutes later, capitalising on Mohamed Salah’s mesmerising footwork, and the Egyptian himself got in on the act with a precise low drive just before half-time – his 20th goal in a remarkable season. West Ham, under Julen Lopetegui, failed to even contain the damage. Trent Alexander-Arnold made it 4-0 nine minutes after the restart, his long-range shot deflecting off Max Kilman to leave Alphonse Areola helpless. For the hosts, only Mohammed Kudus showed any sign of resistance, striking the woodwork in both halves, while Luis Guilherme also hit the frame of the goal late on. However, these f...

Unal's stunning free-kick earns Cherries deserved point

Image
Bournemouth 1-1 West Ham United Enes Unal’s breathtaking free-kick salvaged a deserved 1-1 draw for Bournemouth against West Ham, after Lucas Paquetá’s controversial penalty—awarded by VAR—put the visitors ahead. Author - Jamie P Unal stepped up from nearly 30 yards out to unleash a powerful strike that left Lukasz Fabianski rooted to the spot, bringing relief to the home crowd following a contentious handball decision that had moments earlier gone against the Cherries. Bournemouth had piled on the pressure since the break, firing off 17 shots in total, but looked to be heading for frustration as West Ham’s resolute defence held firm. Then came a stroke of fortune for the Hammers, who broke the deadlock via a contentious penalty decision. Nicklas Füllkrug’s header was comfortably saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga, but VAR official Michael Salisbury spotted a potential handball by Tyler Adams from Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross. After a lengthy review and a trip to the pitch-side monitor by ref...

The victory lifted Leicester to 15th in the Premier League, leaving them just two points behind the struggling Hammers. However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for the hosts, as goalkeeper Mads Hermansen was called upon to produce several outstanding saves to keep West Ham at bay. Niclas Füllkrug headed in a late consolation goal for the visitors during stoppage time, but the result leaves Lopetegui under mounting pressure. With just three wins from their last 12 league matches, frustration among Hammers fans was evident as they directed their anger towards the manager. Super News...

Chaotic match at the London Stadium

Image
West Ham United 2 - 5 Arsenal Arsenal climbed to second place in the Premier League with a thrilling victory over West Ham at the London Stadium, where an astonishing seven goals were scored in the first half. Author - DJ The Gunners took the lead just 10 minutes in when centre-back Gabriel flicked Bukayo Saka’s corner into the net at the near post, capitalising on some slack West Ham marking. Their advantage was doubled in the 27th minute through Leandro Trossard, who finished off a flowing team move. Saka, once again the architect, was played in by Martin Odegaard’s clever chipped-through ball before squaring it perfectly for Trossard to tap home. What followed was a chaotic six-minute spell that saw four goals fly in. Odegaard made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Lucas Paquetá brought down Saka in the box. Just minutes later, Kai Havertz pounced on a defensive error by Max Kilman, racing through to slot past a stranded Łukasz Fabiański and put Arsenal 4-0 up. More news from t...

Despite the early setback, West Ham maintained a positive approach, dominating the chances in the first half. Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, and Mohammed Kudus all had opportunities, though only Kudus managed to test the keeper. Brentford, after their early burst, seemed content to sit back and absorb the pressure. Their next significant effort came in the 34th minute when Mbeumo headed over the bar. West Ham’s persistence paid off shortly after the break. Soucek, drafted into the starting line-up to replace the suspended Edson Alvarez, capitalised on a loose ball and calmly slotted home from close range. Premier League: 202...

Image
Aston Villa and Newcastle both won their opening-day fixtures. Let's explore what happened West Ham United 1 - 2 Aston Villa Substitute Jhon Duran clinched a late victory for Aston Villa as they kicked off their Premier League season with a win at West Ham. Duran seized onto Jacob Ramsey's pass and coolly tucked the ball into the bottom corner with just 11 minutes left, shortly after rumours circulated that the Hammers had made two unsuccessful bids for the striker. Amadou Onana marked his Villa debut in style, heading home Youri Tielemans' corner after just four minutes when the Belgian midfielder was left unmarked in the box. West Ham levelled the score before half-time when Matty Cash was deemed to have fouled Tomas Soucek during a tussle in the box. Lucas Paqueta converted the penalty, sending Emiliano Martinez the wrong way with a stuttered run-up as he slotted the ball into the bottom left corner. However, Duran ultimately had the final word, ensuring Villa's ...
