Premier League: Patrick Vieira dismissed as Palace manager

Image
Another Premier League boss has lost his job. On Friday 17th March, Crystal Palace confirmed that Patrick Vieira has left his post as First Team Manager.  Three members of his coaching staff - Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Saïd Aïgoun - have also left the club. Chairman Steve Parish told cpfc.co.uk: “It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made. Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status. That said, Patrick’s impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself, and all of his colleagues.  "He led the team to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final and a respectable 12th-placed finish last season playing some exciting football, which was a challenging and crucial campaign for the club given the changes we made to the squad prior to his arrival." All the best r

UEL: Man United cruise in Europa League

Image
Real Betis 0 - 1 Manchester United (Aggregate 1 - 5) After this clinical win, United will face another trip to Seville in the next round.  They cruised into the quarter-finals of the Europa League with a 5-1 aggregate win at Real Betis. After an open first half, Rashford put United ahead in the 55th minute with a thunderous long-range effort dipping into the bottom corner. The hosts had created plenty of chances before United opened the scoring as Betis' Joaquin saw his early curled effort hit the outside of the post. Erik ten Hag's side had done the hard work in Manchester last week and advanced as 5-1 winners on aggregate. UCL and UEL (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Rashford shines again when it mattered Rashford's impressive form continues. Since he returned from the World Cup, he has scored 19 goals in 24 appearances. He is already in his most productive season in front of goal and remains the highest scorer in the Europa League with six goals from eight matches.

UCL: Inter hold out against Porto

Image
FC Porto 0 - 0 Inter Milan (Aggregate: 0 - 1 ) Inter Milan fans are dreaming of Champions League success once again. The Italian side reached the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in more than a decade after surviving a late barrage of pressure at Porto to escape with a 0-0 draw which took them through 1-0 on aggregate. It was a disappointing night for the home fans at a sold-out Dragao stadium as the Portuguese champions tried in vain to wipe out the narrow deficit from the first leg in Italy. A disciplined Inter side seemed content to hold onto their lead and did not face a serious threat until added time.  Defender Pepe was then dismissed for a second yellow card and Inter joined city rivals AC Milan in the quarterfinal draw. This is the first time they have both reached the last eight since 2006. EFL: Blackpool thrash QPR

Image
Blackpool 6 - 1 QPR Blackpool picked up a massive three points with a dominant victory over QPR. Goals from Jerry Yates, Andy Lyons, Curtis Nelson and Jordan Thorniley had Pool four up after 36 minutes. Chris Martin got a goal back for QPR before the break. A second goal from Andy Lyons and a strike from Kenny Dougall put the cherry on top of the cake for Pool. Blackpool remains in the bottom but this win and performance should give them a massive boost. QPR are in 19th position and will be starting to look nervously over their shoulder.  More Blackpool news>>> Manager reaction Blackpool manager Mick McCarthy told the media: "The lads up front destroyed QPR tonight, but even though we were 4-1 up at half-time, I knew we'd need to do it all again in the second half. We did that, though, and once we'd got the fifth there was no coming back from that. I really wanted a big performance from the lads tonight, and I think I got it." QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth g

Premier League: Man United held at home

Manchester United 0 - 0 Southampton Manchester United suffered a frustrating 0-0 draw against Southampton at Old Trafford, after Casemiro was sent off in the first half. The Brazilian midfielder was given his marching orders for a challenge on Carlos Alcaraz. Referee Anthony Taylor initially held up a yellow card, before a VAR check persuaded him it was serious foul play. The home side's best chance of the game fell to Bruno Fernandes. His curling effort forced Saints goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu to make a great save to force it onto the post. United Review: Reds held against Southampton  David De Gea’s heroics helped to keep the game goalless. He first denied Theo Walcott in the first half with an incredible reflex save from close range.  United started off with a series of quick counterattacks. The best of those came when Antony tried to find the run of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the right-back’s cross was easily dealt with by the opposition defence.  The away side managed to create

Premier League: Everton move out of bottom three

Image
Everton 1 - 0 Brentford Everton boosted their survival chances with a win in front of a vocal Goodison Park. The Blues started the day 18th but capitalised on teams around them failing to win by moving out of the Premier League relegation zone, leaping two points and three places above trouble. McNeil's delightful strike after just 35 seconds gave the hosts the perfect start, rasping a finish across the goal which nestled into the far corner. Buoyed by their fans, the home side were swarming all over the Bees and created much better chances with Demarai Gray seeing a second goal ruled out for handball by VAR. As the game moved to a conclusion, Brentford looked to salvage something but they were not at their best, Ethan Pinnock having a header cleared off the line by McNeil and Kevin Schade heading wide at the far post as their 12-match unbeaten run ended.  Despite the result, they will be still hoping to qualify for Europe. Everton will just be concentrating on building on thi

However, the Southend goalkeeper then fumbled a Ben Tozer cross into his own net to give Wrexham the lead. Arnold deflected Eoghan O'Connell's shot onto a post and Dan Mooney wasted a good chance for the Shrimpers when he miskicked his effort from 12 yards. Wrexham were rewarded for their battling performance with a new club record of 25 league matches unbeaten and a 17th win in 18 home games. It was perhaps a miracle that the match had even taken place. Conditions were awful before the match, and it's credit to everyone who works for the Welsh side tha

Premier League: Bournemouth boost their survival chances

Image
AFC Bournemouth 1 - 0  Liverpool Mohamed Salah's awful penalty miss helped Bournemouth climb out of the relegation zone after an excellent win that damaged Liverpool's chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League. PL reaction: Liverpool 7 - 0 Manchester United Back down to earth with a bump Jurgen Klopp's were brought back down to earth after last week's 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United as the Cherries did their survival chances a power of good. Liverpool were punished for poor defending when the unmarked Philip Billing struck after fine work by Dango Ouattara. Virgil van Dijk had a header cleared off the line at 0-0 and substitute Diogo Jota was denied by Neto's fine save. This was before Liverpool won a penalty when the Portugal forward's header was handled by Adam Smith. However, Salah blazed the penalty wide much to the delight of Bournemouth's fans. While the win ensured Bournemouth finished the day 17th, Liverpool missed the chanc

UEL: Man United take commanding first-leg lead

Image
Manchester United 4 - 1 Real Betis Manchester United beat Real Betis 4-1 in the first leg of the Europa League Round-of-16 clash. Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for the Reds in the sixth minute, with a rifling strike that emphatically flew past Claudio Bravo. Despite an excellent start by United, our goal would be cancelled out just after the half-hour mark due to the on-loan Ayoze Perez firing across David De Gea into the bottom corner.  Erik's reds prove too strong Antony restored United's lead with a trademark effort that curled beyond a stranded Bravo, who could only watch as it hit the top corner. Minutes later, Bruno Fernandes got in on the act from Luke Shaw's corner. The no.8 wasn't picked up as he wandered into the area to make it 3-1 on the night.  The final goal fell to Wout Weghorst, scoring his first in front of the Old Trafford faithful. Second-half substitute Facundo Pellistri was at the heart of the move, originally teeing up Scott McTominay who
