Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo scored before Aaron Lennon pulled one back for the visitors.    Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick told Amazon Prime: "As expected it was a very tough physical game against a team who play very physical. We also showed the qualities we have in our team. It was important today to raise the energy level. "The whole team performance was a lot better, I was pleased with the performances of our wingers. Jadon did well and Mason. Eddie and Cristiano, the work effort was amazing. "I wouldn't say fourth is the minimum. It is about taking next development steps. Now eight games in a row without a defeat. It is about taking next steps." Burnley manager Sean Dyche added the same channel: "We've been here a couple of times and had big results here and not had nowhere near the

Bundesliga Borussia Dortmund will look to put together a deal to try to persuade Norway striker Erling Braut Haaland to stay with them. The 21-year-old's future at the club set to be decided by the end of February.  Bayern Munich are interested in signing Leeds United's Raphinha. Despite rumours suggesting otherwise, it has been reported that no agreement has yet been made and he could easily end up signing for Liverpool. Premier League Newcastle United hope to complete a deal to bring in Atletico Madrid and England right-back Kieran Trippier next week and, after an injury to Callum Wilson, they will also try to sign a forward over the next few weeks.  Chelsea have asked about the availability of France left-back Theo Hernandez, who AC Milan will not consider selling for less than 60m euros. PL: Leicester City get revenge on Liverpool

Image
Leicester City 1 - 0 Liverpool Ademola Lookman scored the only goal of the match as Leicester City beat Liverpool. This leaves the Reds six points off the top of the Premier League table. Liverpool's best chances came in the first half when Mohamed Salah had a penalty saved by Kasper Schmeichel and the Egyptian headed the rebound off the bar. Sadio Mane then wasted a couple of chances for Jurgen Klopp's side. The 2020 Premier League champions were made to pay by the hosts in the 59th minute. Lookman, with only his fourth touch after coming on, took Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's pass in his stride, beat Liverpool's Joel Matip and fired a shot past Alisson. This was Leicester's only shot on target. Leicester hung on despite the relentless late Liverpool pressure. This all came just six days after blowing a 3-1 lead to lose on penalties against the same opposition in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. This result was all the more remarkable given the home side's

PL: Southampton put on show of resilience against Tottenham

Image
Southampton 1 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur Southampton held Tottenham to a draw despite playing with 10 men for over 50 minutes at St Mary's. Ralph Hasenhuttl's side started well when James Ward-Prowse cut across a bouncing ball to volley a swerving shot past Hugo Lloris for a superb opener. The home side looked to have undone their great work when Mohammed Salisu fouled Son Heung-min in the box to earn himself a second booking in a short period of time. This allowed Harry Kane to score. In the second 45 minutes, Spurs twice had the ball in the net. Kane saw a strike ruled out by VAR for a narrow offside. Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster was then spared own-goal blushes when it was judged he was fouled by Matt Doherty. Reaction from St Mary's Spurs Head Coach Antonio Conte was annoyed that his side didn't take advantage of the extra man. He told the club's website: “We have to be a bit frustrated for the final result. We’ve played a lot, the last three games against

The most iconic and interesting moments of 2021

Image
Let's look at some of the best matches and moments of 2021. England v Italy - Euro 2020 final It was so close to coming home. England had a superb tournament but came unstuck in a penalty shootout in the final. The gradual return of crowds throughout the competition meant a special atmosphere.  Italy's triumph was perhaps unexpected despite their wonderful run of form throughout recent history, Southgate and England went one better than their semi-final spot in the 2018 World Cup. Can they finally win their first trophy since 1966 in Qatar 2022? Another notable mention from the tournament was France 3-3 Switzerland. The 2018 World Cup winners were knocked out after an enthralling match. Chelsea v Manchester City - Champions League final Another all English final. Manchester City were desperate to win their first Champions League title but it never really happened for them on the night. Back in May, Greater Manchester took a detailed look at some of the best reaction from th

Championship: Derby County 1 - 0 West Brom

Image
Derby County are not going down without a fight.  An immense performance against promotion West Brom left them still well adrift at the bottom of the Championship. There's still plenty of hope within the club.  Their sixth league win of the campaign came thanks to a defensive howler. This gifted substitute Colin Kazim-Richards the only goal of the game. Kazim-Richards could well turn out to be key in their bid for survival in the second tier of English football. That level of experience is always important. After the match, Rooney told the BBC and other media outlets: "I could see something happening between the defender and the goalkeeper. Them getting so close to each other, you hoped it would fall for us. It did and he [Kazim-Richards] put in a nice finish. "The administrators have confirmed they have had bids from other companies and it needs to be done before January. I'm trying to plan for the future of this club and if it keeps dragging on, it's not hel

PL: Newcastle regret missed chances against Manchester United

Image
Newcastle United 1 - 1 Manchester United Edinson Cavani came off the bench to score an equaliser for Manchester United and ruin Newcastle's hopes of a priceless second league win of the season. The striker was introduced after a  poor first half from the visitors, during which they conspired to partly gift Allan Saint-Maximin the opening goal. Cavani immediately added a threat to the blunt attack. He side-footed one effort wide before finding the net at the third time of asking with a poked shot from inside the box. It was cruel on Newcastle. They defended with determination and counter-attacked with intensity to produce their finest display of the season at a loud and passionate St James' Park. However, the Geordie faithful would have to ask a rather key question. Why can't they put in that level of performance every week? For Manchester United, it was another poor performance in a season of poor performances. Where do they go from here? Let's have a look at some o

Scottish Premiership: All the Boxing Day action

Despite reduced crowds, there were plenty of goals on an action-packed Boxing Day in the Scottish Premiership. St Johnstone 1 - 3 Celtic Celtic emerged from a "chaotic couple of days" to inflict St Johnstone's eighth consecutive defeat. Two goals from Liel Abada's first-half double had the visitors in total command until Chris Kane halved the deficit. Nir Bitton eventually put the result beyond doubt when he scored a late third to send Celtic into the winter break six points adrift of leaders Rangers who won later in the day. One Celtic fan told us: "It was a solid performance. We need to keep winning and who knows where the season will finish?" ⏰ Unique Angle ⚽️⚽️ Abada ⚽️ Bitton pic.twitter.com/hmdLlpfaKn — Celtic TV (@CelticTV) December 27, 2021 Rangers 2 - 0 St Mirren Scott Wright scored an opening header before Alfredo Morelos slammed in a first-half second at Ibrox. PL: Manchester City 6-3 Leicester City

Image
It was a thrilling Boxing Day afternoon at Etihad Stadium Manchester City clinched a ninth successive Premier League win in thrilling style. They have now moved six points clear at the top of the table. It looked like City had wrapped up the points after only 25 minutes as they led a depleted Foxes side 4-0, with a penalty apiece by Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling in addition to strikes from Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan. Leicester had other ideas and came back thrillingly. They scored three goals in the space of 10 second-half minutes from James Maddison, Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho giving them hope. A header by Aymeric Laporte restored order and gave the home side breathing space. Sterling's second goal made sure of the points late on. Pep Guardiola was talking about the Manchester City website about the remarkable second half: “No (I didn’t expect such a second half comeback). "But even in the first half, we spoke about this at half-time, it was 4-0 and w

PL Reaction:: Norwich City 0 - 5 Arsenal

Image
Let's look at all the reaction as Arsenal thrashed Norwich City at Carrow Road. It was a special performance from Arsenal. They are ending 2021 in great form and must be cautiously optimistic going into the second half of the season. This victory meant they maintained their six-point lead over fifth-placed Tottenham. Norwich must regroup after another defeat. All the key reaction Before you read the reaction, you need to watch the highlights. Norwich boss Dean Smith told the BBC: "I have used a tennis terminology in the dressing room to describe our performance - it was littered with unforced errors. "We gave two soft fouls away for two soft goals at the end. We cannot drop our standards from two games ago against Manchester United to today's showing." One Norwich fan tweeted a passionate response to the tweet below: "Complete and utter waste of time supporting this club. We fail time and time again in the Premier League, getting worse and worse each
