The opportunity came when Rhian Brewster's deep corner was mistakenly headed back across goal by Stoke substitute Bosun Lawal. Fellow substitute Ali Al-Hamadi tested Blades goalkeeper Michael Cooper with a sharp low save as Stoke pressed for a late equaliser. However, Sheffield United sealed the win when Andre Brooks, who had just come off the bench, scored with his very first touch. The defeat leaves Stoke jus...

Image
Will there be new owners for Rangers? Rangers have confirmed for the first time that they are in active discussions with a group of American investors, including the San Francisco 49ers, regarding a possible takeover of the club. Author - Mark Lee Speculation around external interest had emerged earlier this year. The Ibrox club has now said that "productive conversations" are taking place, with a joint statement noting that the group is seeking a controlling stake in the Scottish side. No timeline has been given for a potential agreement, though those familiar with the situation previously suggested that a deal could be finalised between April and June. Among the key figures involved is Paraag Marathe, chairman of Leeds United and a leading executive behind 49ers Enterprises, the investment arm of the NFL franchise. He is understood to be playing a central role in the discussions. READ MORE:  Rangers Europa League adventure ends in Bilbao READ MORE:  End of the road for ...

Burnley 2 - 1 Sheffield United Burnley sealed their return to the Premier League with a decisive win that not only confirmed their own promotion but also ensured Leeds United would be joining them in the top flight. The result consigned Sheffield United to the uncertainty of the Championship play-offs. Author - Nissi Stadium - Turf Moor The Clarets extended their remarkable unbeaten run to 31 games, with Josh Brownhill netting twice in a composed performance that confirmed their top-two finish. Leeds, who had earlier dismantled Stoke City 6–0, were left celebrating in the Elland Road hospitality suite as news of Burnley’s result filtered through. For Sheffield United, the result marked a fourth defeat in five matches – a dismal run that sees them finish third and now reliant on the play-offs if they are to join Burnley and Leeds in the Premier League next season. Scott Parker's side have built their promotion push on defensive resilience, with this result breaking a club record...

Another home defeat for Manchester United

Image
Manchester United 0 - 1 Wolves Manchester United's league struggles deepened as Pablo Sarabia’s free-kick earned Wolves a fifth consecutive Premier League victory, their best run in the top flight since 1970. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford The contrast with United’s midweek display against Lyon could hardly have been starker. This latest defeat was their 15th of the season, eclipsing last year’s total and marking their worst campaign since 1989–90, when they lost 16 times. Ruben Amorim’s side have now been beaten at home by Wolves, joining Crystal Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest in claiming three points at Old Trafford since the Portuguese manager took charge in November. Hearts had earlier clawed their way back into the match after falling behind to an unfortunate own goal. Papa Gueye’s header came off the underside of the crossbar, struck Gordon and bounced over the line. Lawrence Shankland levelled with a well-taken strike before Hearts were dealt a blow just before half-time when Michael Steinwender was shown a straight red card for a last-man foul on Topi Keskinen. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Neil Critchley’s side dug in and appeared to be heading for penalties. Howev...

Author - Peter Grainger Stadium - Villa Park Ollie Watkins gave Villa the perfect start, drawing level with Gabriel Agbonlahor as the club’s joint-highest Premier League goalscorer. His strike after just 33 seconds took a cruel deflection off Fabian Schär and left Nick Pope stranded. Newcastle responded in the 18th minute, with Schär making amends by heading home Harvey Barnes’ deep, curling cross. The ball crept through the legs of Emiliano MartĂnez to restore parity. But Villa refused to relent. Just after the hour mark, Watkins turned provider, sliding in Ian Maatsen who showed composure beyond his years to lift the ball delicately over the keeper and restore the lead.
