EFL: Who's getting promoted to the Premier League?

Image
The race for automatic promotion to the Premier League is shaping up to be a nail-biter. Last season's relegated teams Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton are all eager to make a swift return to the top flight.  However, Kieran McKenna's Ipswich side currently holds the lead at the top of the table in a tense four-way contest. As the new year rolled in, Enzo Maresca's Leicester seemed destined to secure promotion straight back to the Premier League. They were sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table, boasting a commanding 13-point lead over Southampton in third place. However, after Southampton's victory over Preston on Tuesday, the promotion battle has tightened considerably, with four teams now in the mix and only a handful of games left to play. The best place to find more news from the Championship  What do the fans think? Jamie, a Leicester City fan, said: "The league has been so unpredictable that making any predictions is foolish. I d

Premier League: It's all change at Leeds United

Image
Leeds United have sacked manager Javi Gracia and appointed Sam Allardyce as they try to avoid relegation.  Spaniard Gracia was appointed in February and has been sacked after only 10 weeks and 12 games in charge at Elland Road. Allardyce has been tasked with guiding 17th-placed Leeds, who are out of the bottom three only on goal difference, to safety with four games remaining.  Premier League news (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) His first game for his club is against Manchester City on Saturday. Gracia's final match in charge was Sunday's 4-1 defeat at Bournemouth. Can Leeds do the unthinkable and beat City? That latest heavy loss followed an awful run of results that included 6-1, 5-1 and 4-1 defeats against Liverpool , Crystal Palace and Arsenal respectively.  Premier League: It was a dramatic Sunday (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) This dismissal takes the total of managerial changes in the Premier League to 15 for the season, five more than in any other previous campaign.

Premier League: Leeds United's chances of survival dented

Image
Fulham 2 - 1 Leeds United Leeds United's chances of staying in the Premier League were dented after a poor performance at Craven Cottage.  Goals from Harry Wilson and Andreas Pereira handed Fulham a 2-1 victory over Leeds United at Craven Cottage, cementing the west London side's position in the top half of the table. This team. 😍 #FULLEE pic.twitter.com/KQkv60yOhM — Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) April 22, 2023 Chances were few and far between in a quiet first half, with Leeds' Marc Roca forcing goalkeeper Bernd Leno into a good save from a free kick. Fulham's best opportunities fell to Pereira from long range. Fulham took the lead in the 58th minute with a powerful finish from Wilson after Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier parried a Willian cross into Wilson's path. Fulham continued to apply the pressure and almost doubled their lead when a Pereira free kick rattled the crossbar. And the hosts' second came similarly. Meslier could only divert a cross fr

Premier League: Palace thrash Leeds

Image
Leeds United 1 - 5 Crystal Palace Crystal Palace staged a remarkable second-half turnaround to give a significant boost to their Premier League survival hopes. This stunned Leeds and left them with plenty of work to do in their own bid to avoid a trip to the Championship. Palace dominated the second half. For as sharp and hungry as Leeds were in the first 45 minutes, they were disjointed and lethargic after the break as the players and fans were left in disbelief as Palace tore them apart. The Eagles scored four goals after the break with Jordan Ayew - in for the injured Wilfried Zaha - scoring two in an incredible demolition of the home side. <More Crystal Palace news and stories> After taking the lead through Patrick Bamford, it all went downhill as Marc Guehi flicked in an equaliser on the stroke of half-time before Palace scored two goals in two minutes soon after the break. First, Ayew made it 2-1 with an excellent header before Eberechi Eze added a quick third. Odsonn

Premier League: Man United battle to win over Leeds

Image
Leeds United 0 - 2 Manchester United The Red Devils scored twice in the final 10 minutes at Elland Road to leave Leeds deep in relegation trouble. Three days on from Marcus Rashford netting the Red Devils' first goal as they came back from 2-0 down at home to secure a Premier League draw, he broke the deadlock when he rose to meet Luke Shaw's curling cross to head past Illan Meslier for his 21st goal of a superb season. Alejandro Garnacho then outpaced the home defence before beating Meslier at his near post to the joy of Erik ten Hag. Many pundits have argued that the result was harsh on Leeds. They created a number of opportunities but could not beat David de Gea. Reaction The United boss told MUTV: "We made changes to avoid fatigue. We are the only team in Europe to be in four competitions, so we have to rotate, but we also have to use the group from a tactical point of view. I think that's what wins the game."  One fan told us: "Maguire & Malacia

Premier League: Man United and Leeds United produce a classic

Image
Manchester United 2 - 2 Leeds United Man United fought their way back from being two goals down to take a point against Leeds United at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford and substitute Jadon Sancho levelled Wilfried Gnonto’s first-minute strike and Raphael Varane’s own goal to move Erik ten Hag’s men three points ahead of Newcastle United in the Premier League table. The Reds got back into the game after a difficult 60 minutes. They recovered from the deficit with well-worked counter-attacks and a never-say-die attitude, epitomised by Luke Shaw, who was instrumental in Sancho’s goal to level the clash. After that, United dominated. The Leeds goal lived a charmed life at times. Fred and Fernandes missed efforts that could have brought the Old Trafford house down. Instead, Leeds held out for five minutes of stoppage time, doing well to kill our momentum on occasion, and will be the more pleased of the two sides with the outcome. What will happen when the sides meet again on Sunday? Highl

The offivial awarded Leeds a penalty. However; both decisions were overturned after Kavanagh reviewed the incident on the pitchside monitor. Premier League: Leeds battle for draw against Villa

Image
Leeds United 0 - 0 Aston Villa A goalless draw at Elland Road was a good one for Leeds United, who spent the entire second half a player down, battling against an Aston Villa side that was looking to take all three points. The Whites returned to Premier League action after 29 days without a match, following recent postponements and the international break.  When the match kicked off inside a packed out and eagerly awaiting Elland Road, both teams set off on the front foot looking to gain the early advantage, using their respective supporters to their advantage.  However, very little early on in terms of chances were to come, largely due to the stop-start nature of the match and plenty of early fouls between the teams. The first to be booked for one was Ludwig Augustinsson for the visitors, but he would not be the only name in the notepad early on. Shots on goal did arrive and both number one’s on the day were called into action. Illan Meslier denied Ollie Watkins, before both Bren

Transfer Rumour: Liverpool ramp up interest in Raphinha

Image
Liverpool are reportedly ramping up interest in £60million Leeds winger Raphinha With Sadio Mane set to leave Anfield this summer, Liverpool believes Raphinha could be the ideal replacement.  A report in the Mirror has suggested that backup attacker Takumi Minamino could be the bait to lure the Brazilian to Merseyside. Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the speedy 25-year-old attacker who scored 11 Premier League goals and grabbed three assists despite a poor season for Leeds.  Raphinha is also on Barcelona's wanted list. He is currently on international duty with Brazil, fits the bill perfectly for Liverpool's high energy style under Klopp. The Liveropool manager may have an ace up his sleeve in getting this deal done. Leeds are slowly rebuilding under American coach Jesse Marsch after their narrow relegation escape. They are keen on Minamino who joined Liverpool in a £7.25million deal in January 2020. The 27-year-old Japanese international was only a squad player last season. He

PL: Fernandes shines as Man United beat Leeds

Leeds United 2 - 4 Manchester United Let's check all the reaction as Manchester United survived a second-half scare to win 4-2 at Elland Road. Substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga both found the net in the final 20 minutes. United went into a two-nil lead before the break thanks to goals from Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes. However, Leeds responded in the second half. Quickfire goals from both Rodrigo and Raphinha had pulled Marcelo Bielsa's side level before Fred and Elanga ensured all three points returned to Old Trafford. It was Leeds who carved open the first real chance of the game after just five minutes, as Mateusz Klich cleverly found Jack Harrison unmarked with a lofted through pass. He failed to trouble David De Gea and fired his effort wide of the mark.
