Premier League: Chelsea earn narrow win over Fulham

Image
Chelsea 1 - 0 Fulham Chelsea secured a narrow victory over West London rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, with Cole Palmer's first-half penalty proving to be vital. The win was Chelsea's third consecutive victory, moving them to eighth in the table. Palmer's penalty, following a foul on Raheem Sterling by Issa Diop, marked his ninth goal since joining Chelsea in August. Conor Gallagher came close to adding a late second for Chelsea, hitting the far post with a well-struck effort. Despite Chelsea's wastefulness in front of goal earlier in the week, they did enough to secure the three points.  Chelsea won their fourth consecutive home league match for the first time since July 2020. The victory marked a positive start to Chelsea's 2024 league campaign after a challenging 2023, where they won only 12 of their 43 league games.  They are set to face Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg on 23 January. Another W at the Bridge. 🏡 #

Premier League: Fulham thrash West Ham

Image
Fulham 5 - 0 West Ham United Raul Jimenez continued his impressive resurgence, scoring another goal as Fulham convincingly defeated a lackluster West Ham, marking their second five-goal triumph in just five days at Craven Cottage. The Mexican forward opened the scoring by heading in Joao Palhinha's cross, notching his fourth goal in five league games. Under Marco Silva's management, Fulham dominated the first half, with Willian adding a second from Andreas Pereira's cut-back and Tosin Adarabioyo out-jumping Kurt Zouma to head in the third from a corner. Despite Lukasz Fabianski denying substitute Harry Wilson, Fulham's dominance continued, culminating in them sealing their second 5-0 victory of the week. This awful performance from West Ham, devoid of energy and ideas, saw them overwhelmed within 18 minutes, leaving Fulham fans delighted with another stellar home display. Fulham, who struggled initially, now boasts 15 goals in their past four games, a stark contras

Premier League: Entertaining draw at Emirates Stadium

Image
Arsenal 2 - 2 Fulham Fulham earned a point at Arsenal thanks to Joao Palhinha. His first-time finish from a corner in the 87th minute earned the away side this draw.  The away side had Calvin Bassey sent off four minutes before that equaliser after he fouled Eddie Nketiah on the counter-attack. Before 3pm, the Emirates stadium was loud and boisterous before the match kicked off. However, that noise became an almost baffled silence.  Andreas Pereira got Fulham off to a flying start, scoring after just 57 seconds. He latched onto a loose ball from Bukayo Saka and fired in a curling shot with the Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale out of position. After Fabio Vieira was caught by Kenny Tete, Saka equalized from the penalty spot for the Gunners. Nketiah then scored Arsenal's second as they came from behind to take the lead , before Fulham had the final say.  As Fulham fans celebrated at the end of the match, Arsenal fans were perhaps slightly concerned that they are displaying the

Premier League reaction: Southampton relegated

Image
Southampton 0 - 2 Fulham Let's explore all of the best reaction as Southampton's 11-year stay in the Premier League ended in tame fashion.  Aleksandar Mitrovic, making his return from an eight-game ban for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh, sealed Saints' fate with a stooping header after Carlos Vinicius' opener. You'd have to say it was apt that their relegation should be confirmed at their home ground. They have picked up a poor 10 points out of a possible 57. They will have to improve this form if they want to escape the Championship next season. What did the Southampton boss say? Southampton boss Ruben Selles told BBC Match of the Day: “It is a very tough day – for me, for everybody in the dressing room, for the city, for the fans. It has been a tough season for all of us.  We have been fighting not to be relegated from the very beginning, and the day came today. I just want to say thank you to everybody for the support we felt from the very first day." T

Willian re-established Fulham's four-goal lead with another superb strike before Maddison netted Leicester's second with a spot-kick and Barnes scored a late third.      This was the reaction of James Maddison after the match. He tweeted in response: "We were not good enough today and we’ve only got ourselves to blame and apologise for that. But as someone who sees the work we are doing every single day

Premier League: Leeds United's chances of survival dented

Image
Fulham 2 - 1 Leeds United Leeds United's chances of staying in the Premier League were dented after a poor performance at Craven Cottage.  Goals from Harry Wilson and Andreas Pereira handed Fulham a 2-1 victory over Leeds United at Craven Cottage, cementing the west London side's position in the top half of the table. This team. 😍 #FULLEE pic.twitter.com/KQkv60yOhM — Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) April 22, 2023 Chances were few and far between in a quiet first half, with Leeds' Marc Roca forcing goalkeeper Bernd Leno into a good save from a free kick. Fulham's best opportunities fell to Pereira from long range. Fulham took the lead in the 58th minute with a powerful finish from Wilson after Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier parried a Willian cross into Wilson's path. Fulham continued to apply the pressure and almost doubled their lead when a Pereira free kick rattled the crossbar. And the hosts' second came similarly. Meslier could only divert a cross fr

FA Cup: Mad minute ruins Fulham dreams

Image
Manchester United 3 - 1 Fulham Fulham had two players and their manager sent off as a crazy minute cost them in their FA Cup match at Old Trafford. Highlights of the match can be found in the video below   The away side had looked on course for only their second last-four appearance since they lost to West Ham in the 1975 final. However, their world collapsed around a handball incident. Just over 20 minutes after Fulham had taken the lead, Jadon Sancho looked like he was about to score an equaliser into an empty net, only for Willian to charge across and clear. The referee had initially given a corner. The sometimes controversial VAR advised the official to check the pitchside monitor, with Willian protesting and manager Silva furious. Two goals from Fernandes (one from the resulting penalty) that were either side of a strike from Marcel Sabitzer gave United the win.  What are the fans saying? We asked a number of fans about they thought about the game. Liam said: "Not the best

Crystal Palace 0 - 3 Fulham "The connection with the fans is stronger than it's ever been." 🫂 @timream5 | #FFC — Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) December 27, 2022 It was a nightmare Boxing Day for Patrick Vieira and Crystal Palace as they lost 3-0, finishing the game with 9 men. Bobby Decordova-Reid, Tim Ream and Aleksandar Mitrovic scored, with Palace overpowered by their London rivals as they ended the game with nine men. Tyrick Mitchell was dismissed for a foul on Kenny Tete just three minutes after his side went behind. James Tomkins then followed him before the hour. Despite being dominant in the match throughout, Marco Silva's side were helped by Palace's indiscipline, which put a stop to their hopes of a fourth straight home win. The result strengthens the visitors' unlikely European push, as they sit in eighth, just two points off the top six. Heading towards the half-hour mark, Palace, having struggled to impose themselves early on, almost

Fulham were unable to find a breakthrough in the absence of Aleksandar Mitrovic as they were held to a 0-0 draw by bottom club Derby at Craven Cottage. They were seeking an eighth successive win but they were denied by Wayne Rooney’s side. The home side were left frustrated after being unable to capitalise on a succession of good chances.  Let's have a look at some of the best reaction Wayne Rooney said after the game: “It is a good point, a very difficult game against one of the best teams in the division.
