Fulham beat Man United on penalties

Image
Manchester United 1 - 1 Fulham (Fulham won 4-3 penalties) Bernd Leno was the penalty shootout hero as Fulham knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup, with the German keeper making two vital saves to send the Cottagers into the quarter-finals. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford After both sides converted their first three spot-kicks, Leno denied Victor Lindelöf before Fulham captain Antonee Robinson kept his side’s perfect record intact. That set the stage for Leno to produce another big moment, stopping Joshua Zirkzee’s effort and sparking wild celebrations from the travelling fans. Marco Silva’s men had taken the lead just before half-time when Calvin Bassey was left unmarked at the far post to nod home from close range after Rodrigo Muniz flicked on a corner. United responded through the Portuguese playmaker. He levelled the scores in style, rifling a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box after being picked out by Diogo Dalot. Martinez secures scrappy win for Manchester United

Image
Fulham 0 - 1 Manchester United Lisandro Martínez’s deflected strike secured a scrappy win for Manchester United in a lacklustre encounter at Craven Cottage, with the visitors edging Fulham 1-0. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Craven Cottage The match had been devoid of quality for over 75 minutes, as both sides laboured to create meaningful opportunities. But just as the game seemed destined to drift into a goalless stalemate, Martínez ventured to the edge of the box and unleashed a shot that ricocheted off Sasa Lukić, looping beyond a helpless Bernd Leno. Remarkably, it was United’s first effort on target – a cruel twist for Fulham, who were the better side in the opening half but failed to make their dominance count. Raúl Jiménez squandered a golden chance when Antonee Robinson’s delivery found him unmarked, only for the Mexican striker to mis control before firing over the bar. United, who had edged Fulham with a late goal at Old Trafford in August, once again left Marco Silva’s si...

Fulham ease past Championship Watford

Image
Fulham 4 - 1 Watford Premier League side Fulham opened their FA Cup campaign in style, delivering a dominant performance to sweep aside second-tier Watford and book their place in the fourth round. Author - Craig H Despite a brief moment of magic from Watford’s Rocco Vata – whose stunning 30-yard strike levelled the score after Rodrigo Muniz’s 26th-minute opener – the home side were always in control at Craven Cottage. Fulham dominated possession and kept their Championship opponents pinned back for much of the game, creating far more chances in a confident display. Raul Jimenez, introduced at half-time, wasted no time in restoring Fulham’s lead. The Mexican striker rifled a penalty into the top corner after Adama Traore was brought down just inside the box. Defender Joachim Andersen added a third with an excellent finish from a corner, smashing home a volley after his initial shot was blocked. Fulham’s dominance was capped off in the closing minutes when Timothy Castagne nodded in...

Fulham hold Arsenal and dent their title hopes

Image
Fulham 1 - 1 Arsenal Arsenal were denied a late winner as they missed the chance to cut the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to four points, settling for a draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Author - DJ Bukayo Saka looked to have secured all three points for the Gunners when he nodded in Gabriel Martinelli's cross with just two minutes remaining. However, the goal was ruled out after Martinelli was deemed offside in the build-up. Fulham had taken the lead against the run of play through Raul Jimenez, who scored his sixth goal of the season. The Mexican striker latched onto Kenny Tete's pass down the line and fired past David Raya from a tight angle. Arsenal, hoping to take advantage of Liverpool's postponed Merseyside derby against Everton , struggled to create clear chances in the first half. Their only shot on target came from Saka, as they laboured to break down Fulham's defence. Mikel Arteta's side found an equaliser six minutes into the second ha...

Brighton slip to rare defeat

Image
Fulham 3 - 1 Brighton & Hove Albion Brighton slipped to just their third Premier League defeat of the season as Alex Iwobi's brace, coupled with an unlucky own goal from Matt O'Riley, secured Fulham's win on a wet and blustery evening at Craven Cottage. Author - Craig H from GMCR Football  Despite the dreadful conditions, with heavy rain and strong winds lashing the pitch, there was no excusing Bart Verbruggen's early error that handed Fulham an opening goal. Within just three minutes, the Brighton keeper attempted a short pass to Carlos Baleba inside the box, only for Alex Iwobi to pounce, intercept, and calmly slot the ball into an open net for his fourth league goal of the campaign. Fulham nearly doubled their advantage moments later, but Igor Julio’s crucial intervention thwarted Iwobi as he surged towards goal. Brighton fought back and found an equaliser 11 minutes into the second half. Jan Paul van Hecke delivered a pinpoint lofted pass to Joao Pedro , w...

Author - Jamie P Brentord had taken the lead with a spectacular first-half strike from Vitaly Janelt, who unleashed a powerful shot from 25 yards that seemed fit to settle any game. But with only eight minutes left on the clock, Wilson came on as a substitute and soon worked his magic. He acrobatically flicked the ball over goalkeeper Mark Flekken with the outside of his boot to net his first, then clinched victory in the 97th minute by stooping low to head in a thrilling second. A closer look at what happened Fulham's performance had deserved a positive result, as they came out strong and kept Brentford, known for their fast starts, on the back foot. Premier League: Entertaining draw at Emirates Stadium

Image
Arsenal 2 - 2 Fulham Fulham earned a point at Arsenal thanks to Joao Palhinha. His first-time finish from a corner in the 87th minute earned the away side this draw.  The away side had Calvin Bassey sent off four minutes before that equaliser after he fouled Eddie Nketiah on the counter-attack. Before 3pm, the Emirates stadium was loud and boisterous before the match kicked off. However, that noise became an almost baffled silence.  Andreas Pereira got Fulham off to a flying start, scoring after just 57 seconds. He latched onto a loose ball from Bukayo Saka and fired in a curling shot with the Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale out of position. After Fabio Vieira was caught by Kenny Tete, Saka equalized from the penalty spot for the Gunners. Premier League reaction: Southampton relegated

Image
Southampton 0 - 2 Fulham Let's explore all of the best reaction as Southampton's 11-year stay in the Premier League ended in tame fashion.  Aleksandar Mitrovic, making his return from an eight-game ban for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh, sealed Saints' fate with a stooping header after Carlos Vinicius' opener. You'd have to say it was apt that their relegation should be confirmed at their home ground. They have picked up a poor 10 points out of a possible 57. They will have to improve this form if they want to escape the Championship next season. What did the Southampton boss say? Southampton boss Ruben Selles told BBC Match of the Day: “It is a very tough day – for me, for everybody in the dressing room, for the city, for the fans. It has been a tough season for all of us.  We have been fighting not to be relegated from the very beginning, and the day came today. I just want to say thank you to everybody for the support we felt from the very first day." T...

Image
Fulham 2 - 1 Leeds United Leeds United's chances of staying in the Premier League were dented after a poor performance at Craven Cottage.  Goals from Harry Wilson and Andreas Pereira handed Fulham a 2-1 victory over Leeds United at Craven Cottage, cementing the west London side's position in the top half of the table. This team. 😍 #FULLEE pic.twitter.com/KQkv60yOhM — Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) April 22, 2023 Chances were few and far between in a quiet first half, with Leeds' Marc Roca forcing goalkeeper Bernd Leno into a good save from a free kick. Fulham's best opportunities fell to Pereira from long range. Fulham took the lead in the 58th minute with a powerful finish from Wilson after Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier parried a Willian cross into Wilson's path. Fulham continued to apply the pressure and almost doubled their lead when a Pereira free kick rattled the crossbar. And the hosts' second came similarly. Meslier could only divert a cross fr...
