Newcastle United have also made an approach for Sesko, but their offer is yet to be accepted. The formal bid marks a shift in United’s approach, amid previous suggestions they were reluctant to table an offer without clarity over the player’s willingness to join. Sources at Old Trafford believe that hurdle has now been cleared, and the club are prepared to part ways with Rasmus Højlund to create space in the squad. Sesko has scored 39 goals in 8...

England’s Euros defence begins on a frustrating note

Image
France 2 - 1 England England’s European title defence began on a frustrating note as they slipped to a defeat against France in their heavyweight Group D opener in Zurich. Author | Olivia T Stadium | Stadion Letzigrund Touted as the toughest fixture of the group stage for Sarina Wiegman’s side, it proved to be every bit the challenge they expected but England never truly looked up to it. There were promising flashes in the opening exchanges, with Chelsea’s Lauren James, fit enough to start, offering a glimpse of her talent. But despite a bright few minutes and a disallowed goal from Alessia Russo, chalked off by VAR for an offside against Beth Mead, England struggled to impose themselves for long spells. France seized control from there. Marie-Antoinette Katoto bundled in the opener after 36 minutes and Chelsea forward Sandy Baltimore doubled their advantage just three minutes later. By that stage, England looked unlikely to mount a comeback. READ MORE |  What else has been hap...

Villa’s Champions League dreams slip away

Image
Manchester United 2 - 0 Aston Villa  Aston Villa saw their Champions League dreams slip away in dramatic fashion at Old Trafford. Author | Olivia T Stadium | Old Trafford With Newcastle falling 1-0 to Everton, Villa (despite being reduced to ten men) were on course to seal a place in Europe’s top competition. That changed in the 76th minute, when Amad Diallo looped a header over Martínez from Bruno Fernandes’ raking diagonal ball. Just moments earlier, Villa thought they had taken the lead through Morgan Rogers. However, the goal was chalked off, with the referee ruling that Rogers had kicked the ball out of Altay Bayındır’s hands. As the whistle had blown before the ball crossed the line, VAR was powerless to review the decision. Unai Emery was incensed. His frustration deepened when Ian Maatsen brought down Diallo late on and Manchester United were awarded a penalty. Christian Eriksen, playing his final game for the club, converted to confirm the win. READ MORE | Visit GM Sup...

Recap | 2025 Europa League Final

Image
This is the place for all the latest news from the Europa League final It's Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur. Who will save their season? Authors - Olivia T and Greg S Full-time | Manchester United 0 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur  Tottenham ended a 17-year trophy drought as Brennan Johnson's first-half goal secured a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final.  The result delivers on Ange Postecoglou’s promise of silverware in his second season.  In contrast, United’s defeat compounds pressure on Ruben Amorim, whose side face Aston Villa in their final league game after a dismal campaign. Despite support from the club's hierarchy, Amorim's tactical choices are under scrutiny, particularly the decision to start Mason Mount over Alejandro Garnacho. With Bruno Fernandes largely anonymous, United offered little creativity and never looked likely to recover once they fell behind. More Premier League misery at Old Trafford

Image
Manchester United 0 - 2 West Ham United It was another disappointing afternoon in the Premier League for the Europa League finalists. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford Tomas Soucek and captain Jarrod Bowen were on target as West Ham ended a run of eight Premier League matches without a win, easing to victory over a Manchester United side whose preparations for the Europa League final appear increasingly uncertain. United named a starting XI featuring five players expected to line up against Tottenham in Bilbao on 21 May, but the match brought more questions than answers. Most troubling for Rúben Amorim was the injury to Leny Yoro, who left the pitch visibly distressed after sustaining a foot problem and headed straight down the tunnel. The setback prompted the immediate withdrawal of Luke Shaw, a potential option in the back three for the final in Spain. The defeat means United have now matched their longest winless run in the Premier League since 1992. On that occasion, the...

Man United are going back to Bilbao

Image
Manchester United 4 - 1 Athletic Club (Manchester United won 7-1 on aggregate) Mason Mount brought an end to a frustrating 20-month spell with a superb second-half brace as Manchester United set up an all-English Europa League final against Tottenham in Bilbao on 21 May. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford The former Chelsea midfielder delivered at just the right moment. Hampered by a succession of injuries since his £55m move from Stamford Bridge in 2023, Mount had made only 10 Premier League starts for United prior to Thursday night. He had barely been on the pitch for 10 minutes when he collected Leny Yoro’s  pass inside the area and finished with composure. It was only his third goal for United, but unquestionably his most significant. The strike extinguished any remaining concerns that Athletic Club might become the first side in 134 attempts to overturn a three-goal first-leg deficit away from home in European competition. United have eyes on another prize during Brentford defeat

Image
Brentford 4 - 3 Manchester United Brentford kept their hopes of qualifying for Europe alive with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Manchester United Author - Olivia T Stadium - Gtech Community Stadium Mason Mount opened the scoring for the visitors, netting only his second goal for the club after latching on to an inviting cross from Alejandro Garnacho. The hosts levelled through a stroke of fortune, as Mikkel Damsgaard’s delivery deflected off Luke Shaw and past goalkeeper Altay Bayındır. Shaw, captaining a much-changed United side, was helpless to prevent the own goal. Brentford then edged in front six minutes later in contentious circumstances. Kevin Schade rose above Tyler Fredricson to nod home his tenth of the season with a towering header. United were incensed that play had not been halted moments earlier, when Matthijs de Ligt appeared to go down injured in the build-up. Man United take giant step to Europa League final

Image
Athletic Club 0 - 3 Manchester United  Manchester United took a commanding step towards the Europa League final after a blistering first-half display against ten-man Athletic Bilbao gave them a significant advantage ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford. Author - Olivia T Stadium -  San Mamés In a fervent atmosphere, United were fortunate not to fall behind early on. Iñaki Williams headed over from a promising position before Victor Lindelöf made a crucial goal-line block to deny Álex Berenguer. The match shifted in the 30th minute. Harry Maguire, operating on the right, showed composure and vision to deliver a cross that was flicked on for Casemiro, who rose to head United in front. Seven minutes later, the visitors tightened their grip. A VAR review confirmed a foul on Rasmus Højlund by Dani Vivian, resulting in a penalty and a red card for the Bilbao defender. Bruno Fernandes silenced the hostile crowd with a calm finish from the spot. READ MORE: MUFC news and stories...

United earn deserved point at ten-man Bournemouth

Image
Bournemouth 1 - 1 Manchester United  Rasmus Højlund struck deep into injury time to salvage a point for Manchester United, as 10-man Bournemouth suffered a setback in their bid for European football. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Vitality Stadium  Andoni Iraola’s side had been on course for victory after Antoine Semenyo’s 11th goal of the season midway through the first half. The match swung on a contentious decision midway through the second half when Evanilson’s challenge on Noussair Mazraoui, initially deemed worthy of a yellow card, was upgraded to red following a VAR review. The Brazilian appeared to lose his footing as he pressed the United defender, but referee Peter Bankes overturned his original decision, leaving Evanilson facing a three-match suspension. United pressed for an equaliser and, after Mason Mount’s effort was deflected wide, Højlund was on hand to turn home Manuel Ugarte’s shot from close range after good work by Luke Shaw. Another home defeat for Manchester United

Image
Manchester United 0 - 1 Wolves Manchester United's league struggles deepened as Pablo Sarabia’s free-kick earned Wolves a fifth consecutive Premier League victory, their best run in the top flight since 1970. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford The contrast with United’s midweek display against Lyon could hardly have been starker. This latest defeat was their 15th of the season, eclipsing last year’s total and marking their worst campaign since 1989–90, when they lost 16 times. Ruben Amorim’s side have now been beaten at home by Wolves, joining Crystal Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest in claiming three points at Old Trafford since the Portuguese manager took charge in November. United have collected just nine points from their past ten league outings. In that stretch, their only victories have come against Leicester and Ipswich, both of whom are in the relegation zone. Rasmus Højlund came close to equalising, narrowly failing to connect with A...

Nine goal thriller at Old Trafford

Image
Manchester United 5 - 4 Lyon (Manchester won 7-6 on aggregate) Where do we even start with this one? A memorable night in Manchester. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford Manchester United staged one of the most remarkable turnarounds in recent memory, scoring twice in the final minute of extra time to pull off an astonishing 5-4 comeback against 10-man Lyon at Old Trafford. Having thrown away a two-goal lead in just seven chaotic minutes during normal time, and then conceding twice more in extra time, United looked destined for a humbling European exit. Bruno Fernandes then offered a glimmer of hope when he slotted home a penalty with six minutes left on the clock, following a VAR review that overturned the initial decision to wave away a foul on Casemiro. Injuries and mistakes cost Manchester United again

Image
Newcastle United 4 - 1 Manchester United  It was another dreadful Sunday afternoon for Ruben Amorim's side as mistakes and another injury cost them against Newcastle. Author - Olivia T Stadium - St James' Park The Manchester United boss dropped first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana after his two mistakes against Lyon in Thursday's 2-2 Europa League quarter-final first-leg draw. His replacement Altay Bayındır was guilty of a serious error to seal an easy home win. The Turkey international clipped a ball straight to Joelinton who headed into the path of Bruno Guimaraes to make it 4-1 in the 77th minute. The game was, ultimately, probably over before that Bayindir mistake as Newcastle looked comfortable once Harvey Barnes had made it 3-1.  The visitors also lost Joshua Zirkzee to a suspected hamstring injury, dropped below Everton on goal difference to 14th in the table. They are now three points off fourth-bottom West Ham United. This was their 10th defeat in 21 Premier Le...

Stoppage-time equaliser denies Manchester United

Image
Lyon 2 - 2 Manchester United A stoppage-time equaliser from Lyon has left Manchester United’s Europa League quarter-final delicately poised at the halfway point. Author - Olivia T Stadiun - Groupama Stadium United fell behind after 25 minutes when Thiago Almada’s wide free-kick evaded a strong enough touch from André Onana, whose uncertain handling continues to draw scrutiny. But just before the break, United drew level through Leny Yoro. The 18-year-old notched his first goal for the club, reacting sharply to Manuel Ugarte’s volley and steering it into the bottom corner. The visitors looked to have snatched a late winner when Joshua Zirkzee, introduced from the bench, guided a looping header past the goalkeeper from Bruno Fernandes’ cross in the 88th minute. However, with virtually the last kick of the game, Onana fumbled a shot from Georges Mikautadze, allowing Rayan Cherki to tap in and spark celebrations in the Lyon end.
