The match got off to a disastrous start for Cardiff when a routine backpass slipped under goalkeeper Ethan Horvath’s foot, resulting in an own goal that gifted Burnley the lead after just nine minutes. Germany: Bayern Munich name Vincent Kompany as new head coach

 There has been a huge announcement in Germany Bayern Munich have named Vincent Kompany as their new head coach on a three-year contract.  The 38-year-old Belgian takes over from Thomas Tuchel, moving from Burnley to the Bundesliga team after both clubs agreed on a compensation fee thought to be around £10.2 million. Kompany led Burnley to victory in the Championship during the 2022-23 season, but the team suffered  relegation from the Premier League this season, finishing 19th. After retiring as a player in 2020, Kompany joined Burnley from Anderlecht in 2022 and signed a five-year contract extension just last year. Despite this, he declined to comment on his future following Burnley's home loss to Nottingham Forest on the final day of the season. Burnley: 2023/2024 Season Review

 We are going to explore Burnley's 2023/2024 season. This was the 142nd season in the history of Burnley Football Club and their first season back in the Premier League since the 2021–22 campaign, following promotion from the EFL Championship in the previous season.  They also participated in the FA Cup and EFL Cup. After losing 2–1 at home to West Ham United on 25 November 2023, Burnley became the second team in English league history (after Newport County in 1970–71) to lose their first seven home matches of the season. The streak was then ended the following game when they beat Sheffield United 5–0. On 11 May 2024, they were officially relegated from the Premier League following a 2–1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur. They finished the season in 19th position.  Their form in the cup competitions wasn't much better.  Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 1 Burnley Burnley's defeat in North London means they are heading back to where they came from 12 months ago. Having taken a surprise lead in the first half through Jacob Bruun Larsen’s well-taken strike, a Tottenham fightback thanks to goals from Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven ended Burnley’s brave resistance and confirmed relegation.  A closer look at the match The first chance fell early for Spurs when Son played James Maddison through to the edge of the box. His shot was blocked by Charlie Taylor. Burnley were quick to head to the other end of the pitch. Wilson Odobert’s cross was met with a strong header by Vitinho but was brilliantly saved by Vicario and set the tone for some end-to-end action. Brennan Johnson was next up, forcing Aro Muric into another great stop at his near post. After a chaotic start to the match, things started to settle down a little with both teams sharing possession, until the 25th minute, Burnley burst into life again. J

Premier League: Another strange performance from Manchester United

Manchester United 1 - 1 Burnley Zeki Amdouni scored a late penalty to grab what could he a priceless point for relegation-threatened Burnley in the Premier League at Old Trafford. Despite another unconvincing display from Manchester United, they did look well set for victory thanks to Antony's well-taken 79th-minute effort. Then Burnley got a penalty  Although the referee John Brooks managed to miss the foul in real time, unlike against Wolves the video assistant referee, Peter Bankes, stepped in. Substitute Amdouni managed to send the keeper the wrong way and earn Burnley this point  This result moved Burnley to within two points of fourth-bottom Nottingham Forest, whom they play at Turf Moor on the final day of the season.  There could still be a dramatic fight for survival with Burnley, Luton and Forest all scrambling to avoid relegation to the Championship.  You can watch the highlights of the match in the video below. Premier League: Arsenal were ruthless against Burnley

Burnley 0 - 5 Arsenal Following Liverpool's win in the early game against Brentford, The Gunners knew they had to win this match and they duly obliged.  Following their 6-0 victory at West Ham last week , Arsenal were soon among the goals again, with captain Martin Odegaard opening the scoring after four minutes with a precise strike into the bottom corner following Gabriel Martinelli's pass. Bukayo Saka converted from the penalty spot to double the lead after Lorenz Assignon fouled Leandro Trossard in the box. Saka secured his second goal just after the restart as Arsenal maintained the pressure, seizing on a clever pass from Odegaard, cutting inside, and firing a shot into the roof of the net. Havertz's scuffed effort was blocked in the box, but Trossard was alert to curl in his third goal in as many league games. The exceptional goal-scoring talent, who scored 52 goals in the previous season during City's triumphant campaign in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League, wasted no time in the new season.  Within just 185 seconds, he found the back of the net, dealing a blow that the newly promoted Burnley side couldn't recover from.  Burnley 3 - 0 Birmingham City The Turf Moor side has their sights set firmly on a return to the Premier League.  They restored their lead at the top of the Championship to three points as they deservedly beat a resolute Birmingham City. Goals from Anass Zaroury and Connor Roberts were supplemented by an injury-time third from Nathan Tella. The latest in a series of articles that will look at how teams did throughout the 21/22 season, and ask how they could improve for next season. Now for a look at the other end of the table After a dramatic final day Burnley were relegated from the Premier League as a home loss to Newcastle United condemned them to the Championship. At the start of the day, Burnley were above Leeds on goal difference, but Jesse Marsch's side won 2-1 at Brentford to end the Clarets' six-year spell in the top flight. Immediate reaction Burnley defender James Tarkowski told the media : "We’re devastated but over the season we've not been good enough. We need to be better than we have been and we've got our just reqwards by not doing enough. "

PL: Everton and Burnley boost survival chances

It was a huge weekend in the bid to secure Premier League football for next season. First of all. Aston Villa 2 - 0 Norwich City Norwich were relegated from the Premier League after a defeat against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
