Author - Liam C Source | Man United YouTube account   This will be an iconic new £2bn 100,000-seater ground close to their current stadium. Once construction is complete, the "current"  Old Trafford is likely to be demolished. United's decision follows a thorough consultation on whether to renovate Old Trafford or construct a brand-new stadium. Old Trafford has been Manchester United's home since 1910, and the club would remain there until any new stadium is completed. The stadium will form part of a wider regeneration of the Old Trafford area, predicted to be the biggest such project in the United Kingdom since the transformation of the Stratford area that accompanied the 2012 Olympics in London. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has already given government backing to the plans. Jim Ratcliffe said the following in a statement that was publishe...

AC Milan interested in Crystal Palace defender

Image
From Crystal Palace to AC Milan? AC Milan are weighing up a summer move for Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell as they brace themselves for the potential departure of Theo Hernandez. Author - Jack L Playing for Palace in 2023 Mitchell, who has earned two caps for England, has been a mainstay in Palace’s defence this season, starting all 28 of their Premier League matches. His consistency and defensive reliability have reportedly caught the eye of Milan’s hierarchy, who are beginning to prepare for life without Hernandez. The Rossoneri are widely expected to part ways with Hernandez this summer, with both Real Madrid and Manchester City expressing strong interest in the French international. While Milan have opened talks with Hernandez over extending his contract, which runs until 2026, negotiations have reached an impasse, making a transfer increasingly likely. Should Hernandez depart, Milan manager Sergio Conceicao is understood to have identified signing a new left-back as...

Celtic still on course for domestic treble

Image
Celtic 2 - 0 Hibernian Daizen Maeda's 27th goal of the season and a stoppage-time strike from Adam Idah kept Celtic's treble dream alive as they edged past Hibernian in a hard-fought Scottish Cup quarter-final. Author - Sean M Stadium - Celtic Park Hibs, without a Scottish Cup win at Celtic Park since 1902, once again left empty-handed after Maeda struck just before half-time to extend the visitors’ misery. The Japan international’s ruthless finish – his 13th goal in as many games – came after Jordan Smith had produced a fine save to deny Nicolas Kuhn, only for Maeda to pounce and rifle the rebound high into the net. It was a moment of redemption for the forward, who had earlier squandered a glorious chance, blazing over the bar when it seemed easier to score. Smith, who recently signed a new deal with Hibs, kept his side in contention with two excellent first-half saves – first tipping away Callum McGregor’s low drive and then reacting sharply to deny Reo Hatate from close...

Palace beat Ipswich in scrappy encounter

Image
Crystal Palace 1 - 0 Ipswich Town Ismaila Sarr’s late strike proved the difference as Crystal Palace edged past Ipswich Town in a scrappy contest at Selhurst Park, making it four wins in a row for the Eagles. Author - Peter Grainger  Stadium - Selhurst Park This was Palace’s first game without key striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, who was sidelined after suffering a nasty head injury in last weekend’s FA Cup victory over Millwall . The Frenchman required 25 stitches following a collision with goalkeeper Liam Roberts. Without their focal point up front, Palace struggled for fluidity in attack, but Sarr stepped up in the 82nd minute, weaving his way into the box before lifting a clever finish over Alex Palmer to seal the points. The game was short on quality at times, though Palace started brightly. Just two minutes in, Adam Wharton played a superb through-ball to Eddie Nketiah, but the striker could only fire straight at Palmer. Click here for more Crystal Palace news and stories Ip...

Southampton pay the penalty as Liverpool move closer to the title

Image
Liverpool 3 - 1 Southampton Mohamed Salah converted two penalties as Liverpool came from behind to defeat bottom-club Southampton for the second time this season, stretching their lead at the top of the Premier League to 16 points. Author - William G Stadium - Anfield The Reds were far from their fluent best following their energy-sapping late win over Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, but at this stage of the campaign, securing results is all that matters. This latest victory moves them another step closer to the title, while Southampton remain in serious danger of recording the lowest Premier League points tally in history. The visitors dared to dream when Will Smallbone capitalised on a calamitous mix-up between Virgil van Dijk and Alisson to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle. However, Liverpool boss Arne Slot responded with a triple substitution at half-time, and the hosts looked revitalised after the break. Image
Hearts 3 - 1 Dundee Sander Kartum lit up Tynecastle with two superb goals as Hearts booked their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals at the expense of Dundee. Author - Mark Lee Stadium - Tynecastle Park The January signing from Brann broke his Hearts duck with a stunning strike from 20 yards to give the hosts a first-half advantage. Joe Shaughnessy nodded in Ziyad Larkeche's cross for parity after the interval but Simon Murray's headed own goal from Blair Spittal's free-kick put the hosts ahead again. And Kartum spun and sliced a low shot through the Dundee defence to ensure Neil Critchley's side progressed to the last four. Elton Kabangu, Calem Nieuwenhof and Alan Forrest were denied by Trevor Carson as Hearts pressed for a more emphatic victory. However, many fans would have accepted a fairly routine victory to reach the semi-finals. Critchley and his players can spend the next three days sizing up their potential opponents on the weekend of 19 and 20 April. The...
