Premier League: Simms rescues point for Everton

Image
Chelsea 2 - 2 Everton This could prove to be a very important point for Everton. Ellis Simms scored his first Everton goal to earn Sean Dyche's side a crucial point. They came from behind twice to draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Everton's improved resilience under Dyche was on show again. The 22-year-old local product Simms was the hero with a superb late equaliser to wreck Chelsea's hopes of a fourth consecutive win. Chelsea broke down Everton's resistance seven minutes after the break when the excellent Joao Felix drilled home a low drive. However, they were pegged back when Abdoulaye Doucoure scrambled home an equaliser from a corner after 69 minutes. The away side were only on level terms for seven minutes. Kai Havertz scored from the spot after Reece James was fouled by James Tarkowski. However, there was to be a late twist in the tale. Dyche had put Simms on to rescue a point, and he delivered in style with a powerful run and finish a minute from time...

The last ever FA Cup match at Goodison Park

Image
Everton 0 - 2 Bournemouth Everton handed Bournemouth a place in the FA Cup fifth round, marking the final FA Cup fixture ever to be played at Goodison Park. Author - James L Stadium - Goodison Park The Toffees have called the historic ground home since 1892, but this defeat means their next home FA Cup tie will take place at their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, where they are set to move at the start of next season. It was a night to forget for Everton, who were largely the architects of their own downfall. Captain James Tarkowski endured a nightmare first half, with his errors directly leading to both of Bournemouth’s goals. Tarkowski’s struggles began when he mistimed a sliding tackle on Antoine Semenyo inside the box midway through the first half. The Ghanaian forward dusted himself off and confidently smashed home the resulting penalty past Jordan Pickford. Semenyo caused Everton’s defence problems all evening, narrowly missing with another effort and seeing a tight-angled ...

FA Cup: Palace and Everton will go again

Image
Crystal Palace 0 - 0 Everton The FA Cup third round weekend started with a rather boring 0-0 draw between Palace and Everton. The game wasn't without controversy though. Everton have lodged an appeal against the red card given to Dominic Calvert-Lewin during their goalless draw against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup third-round.  If the appeal is unsuccessful, Calvert-Lewin could miss not only the third-round replay but also upcoming Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa and Fulham. The striker is facing a three-match ban due to his dismissal following a sliding challenge on Nathaniel Clyne, as determined by a VAR review during the second half. More VAR news and stories Referee Chris Kavanagh initially did not award a free-kick, but after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor, he deemed there was enough contact with Clyne's shin to warrant Calvert-Lewin's dismissal. Toothless Toffees Without Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Everton had no major threat in attack. However, they almost took the lead through a James Tarkowski header that struck a post. This was 15 seconds before Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead with Jordan Pickford going awol in his penalty area.  Ultimately, it was very comfortable for Liverpool The game petered out the longer the half went on. Everton saw more of the ball but without being able to convert it into tangible efforts on goal. With 15 minutes remaining, Neal Maupay and Tom Davies joined the action in place of Amadou Onana and Dwight McNi...

He will be supported by former Nottingham Forest winger Ian Woan as his Assistant Manager. They will be joined by ex-England international Steve Stone as First-Team Coach. Premier League: Everton pay the penalty

Image
Manchester United 2 - 0 Everton Manchester United halted their two-game losing streak by securing victory over Everton at Old Trafford through first-half penalties converted by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. https://t.co/qfMpbyVToc pic.twitter.com/7TtUTl4f61 — European Super Football (@ESFootballNews) March 11, 2024 In a peculiar match, Everton became the fifth team in six Premier League games to muster at least 20 shots against Erik ten Hag's side, yet their wastefulness and defensive lapses cost them dearly. Both James Tarkowski and Ben Godfrey received yellow cards for reckless challenges on Alejandro Garnacho. Fernandes calmly dispatched the first penalty, directing a precise low shot to Jordan Pickford's left corner. Despite the skipper passing on the second penalty to Rashford, the latter confidently sent Pickford the wrong way for his seventh goal of the season. Following defeats against Fulham and Manchester City, the win brought United within three points ...

Everton thrash woeful Leicester

Image
Everton 4 - 0 Leicester City Everton stormed into a two-goal lead inside the opening six minutes—one of the fastest starts in Premier League history—on their way to dismantling a hapless Leicester City at Goodison Park. Author - Sarah W  Stadium - Goodison Park What had been billed as a crucial relegation scrap quickly became a one-sided affair, as the Toffees’ electric first half fired them nine points clear of danger. However, Wolves’ 2-0 victory over Aston Villa ensured the Foxes tumbled into the bottom three. Abdoulaye Doucoure wasted no time in setting the tone, latching onto Jordan Pickford’s long ball and slotting home after just 10.18 seconds—the fastest goal in Everton’s history and the fourth quickest ever recorded in the Premier League. Only Shane Long, Philip Billing, and Ledley King have scored quicker in the competition. Leicester’s static defending invited further punishment, and Everton duly obliged. Moments later, Beto raced onto James Tarkowski’s through ball ...

Premier League: New Brighton boss makes impressive start

Image
Everton 0 - 3 Brighton & Hove Albion Brighton's young manager, Fabian Hurzeler, made an impressive start to his Premier League career, delivering a victory that left Everton's final season at Goodison Park off to a dismal start. Everton, who have called Goodison Park home since 1892, will be relocating to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock at the beginning of next season. Everton fans created a fantastic atmosphere before the match. At just 31, Hurzeler became the Premier League's youngest-ever permanent manager, and his Brighton team showed no mercy towards their opponents. The first half was fiercely contested, with tackles flying in from both sides. Everton's Jack Harrison had an early goal disallowed for offside, while Brighton's Joao Pedro struck the post with a powerful low shot. Brighton took the lead through Kaoru Mitoma's simple finish at the back post, following excellent work from debutant Yankuba Minteh, who had been linked with a move to E...

Image

Due to several injuries, manager Roy Hodgson was forced to make several changes to the starting eleven that had lined up at Crystal Palace last time out. Three academy scholars were named on the bench for their first taste of Premier League action. Everton, who still need every point they can get to help their bid for survival, named their strongest possible team. In terms of the action, Michael Keane was fortunate that his miskick around the edge of the Everton danger area bobbled safely to goalkeeper Jordan Pickford a minute later, and then Kalu again posed a threat but just couldn’t quite ...

Premier League: Everton move out of bottom three

Image
Everton 1 - 0 Brentford Everton boosted their survival chances with a win in front of a vocal Goodison Park. The Blues started the day 18th but capitalised on teams around them failing to win by moving out of the Premier League relegation zone, leaping two points and three places above trouble. McNeil's delightful strike after just 35 seconds gave the hosts the perfect start, rasping a finish across the goal which nestled into the far corner. Buoyed by their fans, the home side were swarming all over the Bees and created much better chances with Demarai Gray seeing a second goal ruled out for handball by VAR. As the game moved to a conclusion, Brentford looked to salvage something but they were not at their best, Ethan Pinnock having a header cleared off the line by McNeil and Kevin Schade heading wide at the far post as their 12-match unbeaten run ended.  Despite the result, they will be still hoping to qualify for Europe. Everton will just be concentrating on building o...

However, Villa quickly responded. Ex-Everton full-back Luca...

Everton had several chances to level the score in the first half, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin being the main threat. However, United's goalkeeper Andre Onana made crucial saves, and Garnacho's goal remained the only highlight of the first half. United introduced 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo, who made a clearance off the line. Everton's missed opportunities proved costly as Ashley Young was judged to have fouled Anthony Martial in the box, leading to Marcus Rashford confidently converting the penalty. Although Fernandes typically takes penalties for Unite...

Everton 2 - 3 AFC Bournemouth Bournemouth pulled off a remarkable late comeback, overturning a two-goal deficit after the 86th minute to stun Everton in a Premier League clash at Goodison Park. Everton had looked set to secure their first win of the season, and their first in August in three years, after taking a deserved lead. But they fell apart spectacularly in the dying moments, as Bournemouth scored three goals in nine chaotic minutes, sparking jubilant celebrations among their players and travelling fans. Antoine Semenyo’s close-range finish from Dango Ouattara’s cross to make it 2-1 seemed like nothing more than a consolation for the visitors, who had been trailing to second-half goals from Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Instead, it marked the start of a dramatic collapse from Everton. Two minutes into stoppage time, Luis Sinisterra set up Bournemouth captain Lewis Cook to equalise, leaving Everton clinging on for a point. But the Toffees crumbled further, sufferi...

Liverpool manager Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also dismissed after the final whistle, with the visitors vehemently arguing that Tarkowski’s goal should have been disallowed for a shove in the build-up. PL: Everton boost survival hopes

Image
Everton 1 - 0 Manchester United Everton picked up a priceless victory in their battle to avoid relegation as a poor Manchester United were beaten. In a game low on quality but high in tension, Everton's victory came courtesy of Anthony Gordon's 27th-minute drive, which took a heavy deflection off United captain Harry Maguire to leave keeper David de Gea wrong-footed. Dyche was appointed last Monday following the departure of Frank Lampard. The hosts picked up their first victory in 11 games in all competitions courtesy of a link-up between two men who played for Dyche at Burnley. James Tarkowski rose at the far post to power home a header from Dwight McNeil's corner to spark the sort of joyous scenes that haven't been seen since that memorable victory over Crystal Palace last season Everton had enjoyed much better chances in the opening period too. Arsenal were outfought for large periods and failed to find any rhythm, although January signing Leandro Trossard forced Jordan Pickford into a sharp save late on. The Gunners couldn't find the leveller and will see their lead at the top cut to two points if champions Manchester City beat Tottenham on Sunday. Full-time scenes Full-time SCENE...
