PL News: Man United sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Image
Ole is no longer at the wheel Manchester United have sacked manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following their 4-1 defeat at Watford. Michael Carrick has been placed in temporary charge while United reportedly seek an interim manager to the end of the current campaign. The club released a statement: "His place in the club's history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a manager who gave us many great moments. "He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family." See the below for some reaction from that awful performance away at Watford. Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho on an interim basis back in December 2018. He was then given the job full-time in March 2019 on a three-year contract and, in July, signed a new deal with the club until 2024. Solskjaer was the club's fourth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. He had lasted longer than more experienced predecessors

PL reaction: Manchester United 0 - 2 Manchester City

Image
Manchester City cruised to victory with almost embarrassing ease at Old Trafford. This Manchester City win was not as emphatic as Liverpool's magnificent 5-0 victory here in United's last home league game but City were far too comfortable. The pressure has only increased on the Manchester United manager.  Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke with the media after the game and said: "It’s very disappointing. Last week, it felt like we made a step forward, this is a big step backwards. It is a way of losing we don’t like. You want to see a better Man United than that. "When you concede the first goal in an unfortunate way as early as that it makes it difficult. They pressed us really well. We never got to the level we need to be at to beat good teams." United's Donny van de Beek tweeted:"A disappointing day. But your support means everything." View from the blues The reaction from everyone associated from Manchester City was obviously more positive. The Manch

Premier League transfer rumour: Lingard on the move?

Image
Jesse Lingard's future career at Manchester United is in doubt after talks over a new contract collapsed. Lingard's present deal expires next summer and United hoped to extend the England midfielder's time at the club following an exciting loan spell at West Ham in the second half of last season. Despite being linked with moves to several clubs, the English midfielder opted to stay at Manchester United this season. He reportedly believed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would provide him with more game time. Instead, he has just started just one game throughout the current campaign. This was the EFL Cup defeat by West Ham in September. He has also made seven substitute appearances, totalling just 76 minutes.  Manchester United news from European Super Football He's had more game time for England during the current campaign than United, even though he also lost his place in Gareth Southgate's squad for the recent World Cup qualifying victories. Premier League: Leicester City 4 - 2 Manchester United

Leicester City increased the pressure on  Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they ran out deserved winners against Manchester United in a thriller at the King Power Stadium. At one point, United had threatened to steal a point from a dreadful performance but the Foxes rallied to secure their best win of an indifferent start to the season. Watch the highlights from the match courtesy of Leicester's YouTube channel. More thoughts from the match It is inevitable that much focus will be placed on the failings of Manchester United but Leicester City deserve massive credit for a performance that saw them back to their best after a relatively poor start to the Premier League season.  The presence of Jonny Evans amongst the defence provided reassurance and quality while Iheanacho put in a great performance against Harry Maguire. The United captain put in a error-strewn display on his return from injury. Where next for Ole? Pressure has certainly increased on the United manager. They now have a hug

Transfer Rumours: Where next for Harry Maguire

Image
It's time to explore another transfer saga. When Manchester United paid a record £80m to make Harry Maguire the world's most expensive defender in 2019, one of the big attractions was his ability to lead. Less than three months after that, the England man was given the armband permanently following Ashley Young's move to Inter Milan. He is now Erik ten Hag's fifth-choice central defender behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, and even Luke Shaw. As Euro 2024 approaches at the end of this season , England boss Gareth Southgate has told Maguire he needs to play more frequently to remain in the squad. Premier League: Palace win at Old Trafford again

Image
Manchester United 0 - 1 Crystal Palace Manchester United suffered their second consecutive home defeat in the Premier League as Crystal Palace secured an impressive victory at Old Trafford, thanks to Joachim Andersen's outstanding strike. These two teams had clashed just five days earlier, with Erik ten Hag's side comfortably winning 3-0 in the Carabao Cup . However, Palace had rested several key players for that match and presented a different challenge on Saturday, delivering an excellent away performance. Palace took the lead after Tyrick Mitchell cleared Rasmus Hojlund's shot off the line. Andersen then brilliantly fired a first-time shot into the top corner from a free-kick. Despite Manchester United's relentless pressure, t hey struggled to breach Palace's defence. When they did manage to break through, goalkeeper Sam Johnstone made crucial saves, first tipping Bruno Fernandes' dipping shot over the bar and then denying Hojlund's powerful header.

It will be all change for Manchester United this weekend Their match against Ipswich will see a new face in the dugout as Rúben Amorim takes charge for the first time. Flickr user  freeela sawkaka | Flickr  explores the new manager's tactics The deal to bring Amorim from Sporting Lisbon was finalised on 1 November, but the Portuguese club requested he remain until the international break before moving. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who had been serving as interim manager following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, has also departed. The former United striker was not included in Amorim’s plans for his backroom staff. Amorim's first challenge will be this trip to Ipswich Town. He's expected to introduce his favoured 3-4-3 formation, marking a significant shift from the four-man defence United played under Ten Hag. However, preparations for the match has been disrupted. Many United players have been away on international duty and might only return two days before the game. United fans will

The Big Discussion: What needs to change at Manchester United

Image
Does there need to be a change in tactics? Do they need a new manager? What's next for the Old Trafford club? Despite last season's FA Cup win, United fans views on the future of Ten Hag were split. After finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, many fans wondered if he was the right man to lead the club back to its former glories.  Some supporters also argued that his tactical approach was too rigid, and there was additional growing concerns about his ability to adapt to the demands of the English game.  Debate about Ten Hag's future again Once again, the Dutchman's position at the helm of one of football's giants has shifted from persistent uncertainty to genuine crisis following a 3-0 defeat against Tottenham. For United's hierarchy, the choice to stick with the ex-Ajax manager is proving to be one that may cast a shadow over the early phase of his reign at Old Trafford. But the question now is whether they should double down on their decision
