Premier League: Manchester United 0 - 1 Aston Villa

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Aston Villa's winning goal should not have been allowed after his Manchester United suffered a second straight home defeat.

Kortney Hause had put Aston Villa ahead with a late  header before Bruno Fernandes missed a stoppage-time penalty after Hause had handled.

Villa arrived at Old Trafford seeking a first point on the road in the Premier League. They left celebrating a memorable victory after a highly impressive performance. Villa fans hadn't seen an away win at Old Trafford since 2009.

Reaction from Manchester United

David de Gea told Manchester United's social media accounts after the match: "It's a very disappointing day. There are no excuses."

Following on from his rare penalty miss, Bruno Fernandes was still applauded by the Stretford End as he left the pitch. 

Villa players and manager are feeling good

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith spoke with the BBC and other media outlets after the match:"I thought we deserved the win today. We were aggressive and brave and you have to be coming here," 

" I thought it was a very harsh penalty. I'm not sure where is is supposed to put his arms when it flashes across. For me, justice was done when he missed it."

Danny Ings tweeted: "That’s what it’s all about Smiling face with heart-shaped eyes Massive team performance and a brilliant away end!"

Back in Champions League action in midweek

United will be desperate to put that result and performance in midweek when they face Atalanta in the Champions League.
