The Big Discussion: What needs to change at Manchester United

Does there need to be a change in tactics? Do they need a new manager?

What's next for the Old Trafford club?

Despite last season's FA Cup win, United fans views on the future of Ten Hag were split. After finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, many fans wondered if he was the right man to lead the club back to its former glories.

Some supporters also argued that his tactical approach was too rigid, and there was additional growing concerns about his ability to adapt to the demands of the English game.

Debate about Ten Hag's future again

Once again, the Dutchman's position at the helm of one of football's giants has shifted from persistent uncertainty to genuine crisis following a 3-0 defeat against Tottenham.

For United's hierarchy, the choice to stick with the ex-Ajax manager is proving to be one that may cast a shadow over the early phase of his reign at Old Trafford. But the question now is whether they should double down on their decision or opt for a change.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, success has been fleeting for United, made all the more difficult by the relentless dominance of rivals like Manchester City. Yet, by several key indicators, Ten Hag has staked a strong claim as one of the more successful managers since Ferguson's departure, despite his struggles.

The barren spell of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era was broken under Ten Hag, with silverware returning to Old Trafford through the Carabao Cup and, more recently, the FA Cup.

The argument for sticking with the manager

Despite last year's lacklustre league performance, Ten Hag battled against the odds, as no Premier League team suffered more injuries than United last term. There were also several controversies throughout that campaign.

The likes of Jim Ratcliffe will also be aware of the pitfalls that come with discontinuity in the hot seat. Would any new manager necessarily want Matthijs de Ligt or Joshua Zirkzee? Those were two of United's big signings from the summer.

Ten Hag has managed to overcome adversity before and achieve success against all odds. Perhaps it's best to allow him to see through the next steps, two years into his project.

Do you agree with this post from the We Want The Glazers Out Facebook group? For some United fans, the club will never truly recover until they have left the club.

Whatever happens, you just know that Manchester United performances (bad and occasionally good) will continue to dominate the news cycle.
