Carabao Cup: Manchester United 0 - 1 West Ham United

West Ham gained revenge for Sunday's defeat against Manchester United by knocking them out of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford.

Manuel Lanzini's ninth-minute effort, his first goal in almost a year proved enough to take David Moyes' men into the last 16 of the competition. Watch the extended highlights below.

It was the first Old Trafford triumph for the Hammers since Carlos Tevez's winner in 2007 kept them in the Premier League. It was their first victory over Man United at Old Trafford in a cup competition since Paolo di Canio scored the only goal in 2001.

The defeat for the Red Devils came after Solskjaer picked a completely different side  to the one that was on duty at the London Stadium only a few days earlier. He now has tough decisions to make about some of his fringe players.

None of this will bother Moyes and his West Ham team, who kept their hosts at bay very well. They face Manchester City in the next round of the competition.

Manager reaction

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told the BBC: "It was a poor start and then when we decided that we wanted to join the game we played some good football, loads of shots, loads of pressure, very good attitude, but we lacked a bit."

The Norwegian also spoke about his desire to win the competition:"I've never actually won this tournament, that hunt will keep going, it's a trophy I'd like to have. But we've made decisions to get the squad up to speed."

He then praised Manchester United's vocal support on the night. See and hear more in the tweet below.

Everyone associated with West Ham was clearly delighted with the result and performance. Their coach Stuart Pearce is no exception. The former England player was put on media duties after the game and spoke with West Ham's social media accounts.

Stuart Pearce added: "We certainly couldn’t have asked for any more from our players. The fans were magnificent at the weekend, we’ve really got a unified Club at the moment from the terraces right down to the pitch and the character the players showed that."
