Arsenal end winless run

Image
Arsenal 3 - 0 Nottingham Forest Arsenal reignited their title push with a much-needed victory over Nottingham Forest, securing their first win in five Premier League games. The Gunners have struggled recently, hampered by a demanding fixture list and a spate of injuries, leaving them nine points adrift of league leaders Liverpool heading into Saturday’s match. Author - William G from GMCR Football From the first whistle at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal were in control. Bukayo Saka broke the deadlock after 15 minutes, playing a slick one-two with Martin Ødegaard before weaving past two defenders and rifling a shot into the top corner. Thomas Partey, introduced at half-time, made an immediate impact by curling in a superb effort from 20 yards to double the lead. Late on, teenager Ethan Nwaneri added gloss to the scoreline with a composed finish, wrapping up a comfortable win. Nottingham Forest, one of the season's surprise packages, came into the game level on points with Arsena

Championship: Luton ease to win over rivals

Luton Town 3 - 0 Watford  Under-pressure Luton Town manager Rob Edwards guided his team to a spirited and well-deserved win against their fierce rivals, Watford, in a typically heated derby at Kenilworth Road. Author - Wiliam G from GMCR Football Luton, who were sitting 21st in the table and had only managed two wins in their last nine league matches, took the lead in the first half through Jordan Clark. The midfielder reacted quickly to redirect Tom Holmes' shot past goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann. Watford, who had the chance to go level on points at the top of the table with a victory, struggled to cope with Luton’s physical approach and failed to muster a single shot on target before half-time. Within two minutes of the second half, Carlton Morris, in top form, was left unmarked to head home Alfie Doughty’s corner from close range, putting Luton 2-0 up. Watford rarely looked like they could avoid a fourth consecutive away league defeat. Edwards had the final word against the clu

Author - William G from GMCR Football Largie Ramazani and Brenden Aaronson had good chances for the homeside in a goalless first half that the hosts had dominated. Daniel Farke's men continued to have the upper hand after the break and were rewarded when Pascal Struijk blasted in from a 69th-minute corner as the Blades conceded for the first time in more than 11 hours. Substitute Mateo Joseph sealed the derby win with a 90th-minute second goal as he finished well from Joel Piroe's pass. The victory meant Leeds leapfrogged the Blades on goal difference with both sides having 19 points as Chris Wilder's men lost for the first time in the league this season. You can watch the highlights of this Yorkshire derby in the video below. The footage is from the Sheffield United YouTube account. My reaction What a thrilling return to Championship foo

Eastleigh 0 - 1 Southend United Author - William G Southend United secured a dramatic Emirates FA Cup win against Eastleigh at the Silverlake Stadium, with Aribim Pepple’s late goal, just two minutes from time, sending the Shrimpers into the first round proper. The match started slowly, with both sides struggling to create clear chances in the opening 15 minutes. The pace remained sluggish throughout, until Pepple broke the deadlock just before full-time. Battling past a couple of defenders on the right wing, he fired a shot beyond the goalkeeper, clinching a last-minute victory for Southend. For their efforts, Southend will now Charlton Athletic in the 1st round. They are a club that has struggled financially in recent seasons, so this victory will have been welcomed by everyone associated with the club. Nations League: Netherlands held by Hungary

Netherlands 1 - 1 Hungary Virgil van Dijk was sent off as the Netherlands secured a Nations League draw in Hungary. Author - William G The home side took the lead with Roland Sallai’s well-placed volley in the first half. However, Liverpool defender Van Dijk saw red after picking up two yellow cards within just three minutes. The first came for dissent, and the second followed after he fouled Kevin Csoboth on the wing. It was Van Dijk’s first red card for the Netherlands, in what was his 77th international appearance.  Despite being down to 10 men, the Dutch quickly equalised, with Denzel Dumfries heading in from Cody Gakpo’s free-kick. UEFA Nations League (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) What do you think of the international break? (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Before his sending-off, Van Dijk had completed an impressive 145 out of 152 passes, nearly matching Hungary’s entire team, who managed 173 passes in total. Following the dismissal, the Netherlands confirmed on Saturday
