Iraola, 43, has signed a two-year deal to replace Arne Slot, who was sacked on Saturday - a year after guiding the club to the Premier League title.

Former Bournemouth manager Iraola joins after delivering the Cherries' finest top-flight season to date, finishing in sixth place.

That was only one position and three points behind Liverpool and gave Bournemouth a place in next season's Europa League.

The Spaniard announced in April that he would leave Bournemouth this summer and he had been linked with Crystal Palace and AC Milan.

Now he moves to Merseyside, with Liverpool having qualified for next season's Champions League despite finishing the Premier League season with 60 points - their lowest tally since 2015-16 and a distant 25 points behind winners Arsenal.

It's expected to be a busy summer for the club in terms of transfers and Iraola will now be at the forefront of that activity.

Frank: Iraola needs to restore Liverpool's aura. Last season they were far too easy to play against. Not only the top sides, but even mid-table teams and some relegation candidates were able to outplay them. Opponents arrived believing they could take points, while Liverpool were often too passive. Iraola must get the midfield functioning properly again, bring back the intensity and make Liverpool a side teams fear facing. Anfield should once more become a ground opponents dread visiting.

David: He needs to do for Liverpool what he achieved at Bournemouth. Improve players individually while creating a stronger collective unit, all while producing entertaining football. The squad should embrace his methods and fulfil their potential in the same way Bournemouth's players did under his management.

Katie: Tighten up a vulnerable defence and address the poor set-piece defending. The team also needs to rediscover its drive and determination. Too often last season, particularly in disappointing results, there appeared to be a lack of energy and commitment from large parts of the side. For me, that is the biggest issue that needs addressing.

Kelvin: The first priority should be raising the performance levels of the current squad. Many of these players are Premier League winners. Last summer's signings remain high-quality footballers and need the right coaching to get the best out of them. After that, a few targeted additions to the squad should be enough. A top-three finish, combined with attractive football, has to be the aim.
