England player ratings from Latvia win
England player ratings from the 5-0 win over Latvia
There were some very impressive performances from Tuchel’s players
Author | William G

We'd see our player of the match was Harry Kane. Not only for his goals but for his all-round contribution.
Jordan Pickford | 6/10
Another calm performance from a goalkeeper who last conceded for England a year ago and has now kept nine consecutive clean sheets. He again faced minimal action, encountering only one shot on target in the qualifying campaign so far.
Djed Spence | 7/10
An impressive first competitive start for England, showing he can perform effectively at right-back as well as on the left. He was active in both halves and contributed to the fourth goal, albeit aided by Tonisev’s error.
Ezri Konsa | 7/10
Composed and authoritative in the heart of defence, ensuring England barely missed Guehi, who was rested. Produced a moment of drama when he raced back to slide in and deny Gutkovskis a near-certain goal.
John Stones | 7/10
Exhibited his ball-playing strengths, supplying midfield with regular passes and creating the opening for Gordon’s goal with a precise delivery. England will benefit greatly next summer if he remains fit.
Myles Lewis-Skelly | 6/10
A rare start that could have been better taken advantage of given his limited opportunities at Arsenal this season. He lacked attacking freedom and was exposed at times compared to Spence on the opposite flank.
Bukayo Saka | 7/10
Relentless in pressing to win the ball, including during the build-up to Kane’s second goal, and drove the move that led to the own goal. He was rightly given a rest after an hour.

Harry Kane | 8/10
Returned emphatically to the England side, adding another record to his collection. He narrowly missed an early chance but made amends with a finely taken goal and showed determination to win a penalty. It would be perfect if he lifted the World Cup trophy as captain in July.
Anthony Gordon | 8/10
Demonstrated why Tuchel did not need to call up Grealish. His pace and trickery troubled Latvia, he scored an excellent goal, and ensured England looked dangerous whenever they attacked.

Jordan Henderson | 6/10
Took over seamlessly from Rice to maintain England’s control in midfield. There remains a debate about his future in the squad. Will Tuchel want a younger player this summer?
Jarrod Bowen | 7/10
Showed appetite to win the ball and drive forward, providing the assist for Eze’s goal.
Eberechi Eze | 8/10
Scored a fine goal to prove he can be a reliable finisher for his country as well as his club.
Marcus Rashford | 7/10
Displayed pace and skill, illustrating how his loan spell at Barcelona could benefit England.
Dan Burn | 6/10
Made a strong tackle, though it was not a flawless performance as Latvia created two good chances while he was on the pitch.
