This is a deal worth an initial £100m, rising to £116m with potential add-ons.

The transfer makes the 22-year-old Germany international the most expensive player in the club’s history, surpassing the £85m paid to Benfica for Darwin Núñez in 2022.
Wirtz’s arrival follows protracted negotiations with Leverkusen, who had initially demanded €150m (£127.6m) for the midfielder. Bayern Munich had also shown interest, but Liverpool succeeded in bringing down the price after weeks of talks.
The attacking midfielder enjoyed a standout campaign last season, scoring 16 goals and registering 15 assists across 45 appearances for the Bundesliga champions. Capped 31 times by Germany, Wirtz is expected to play a central role in Liverpool’s midfield rebuild under Arne Slot.

A busy summer at Anfield
Wirtz is one of several arrivals as Liverpool look to reshape their squad. Jeremie Frimpong has also made the switch from Leverkusen, joining for £29.5m, while the club have agreed a £40m fee with Bournemouth for the left-back Milos Kerkez. The Hungary international is set to undergo a medical next week ahead of signing a five-year contract.

Liverpool are also pursuing a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi, while goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to finalise his move from Valencia for £29m. The Georgian’s transfer was agreed last summer and will now be completed as part of the club’s wider overhaul.
This feels very different to twelve months ago when the club made only two signings with the main addition being Federico Chiesa arrived from Juventus for £12.5m,
