New boss inspires Wolves to win over Leicester

Image
Leicester City 0 - 3 Wolves Vítor Pereira’s debut as a Premier League manager was pretty much perfect.  A two-time league champion with Porto, Pereira has finally been given his chance in England – and it couldn’t have started much more comfortably. Author - Jamie P Wolves found themselves 3-0 up by half-time, but that’s not to say Pereira has instantly turned them into a free-scoring machine. Instead, they simply capitalised on their opportunities when they arose. The opener came after Nelson Semedo lofted a speculative ball down the right channel. Somehow, it made its way to Gonçalo Guedes in the box. The Portuguese forward, making just his second league start of the season, hooked it past Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward with Wolves’ first shot under Pereira’s management. The second goal had a touch of fortune about it. Matt Doherty sent a hopeful diagonal ball towards Leicester’s right-back, James Justin, who allowed it to roll past him – unaware that Joao Gomes had sneaked ...

Arsenal show title credentials again

Image
Leicester City 0 - 2 Arsenal Arsenal moved to within four points of Premier League leaders Liverpool after substitute Mikel Merino struck twice late on to secure victory over a battling Leicester City. Author - DJ Stadium - King Power Stadium With the Gunners struggling for cutting edge up front, it looked as though their lack of firepower—exacerbated by Kai Havertz’s hamstring injury during their Dubai training camp—might cost them. Raheem Sterling, enduring a torrid evening, was withdrawn, and Merino made an immediate impact, arriving at the far post in the 81st minute to finally break Leicester’s resistance. The goal was crafted by 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, Arsenal’s standout performer, who had twice been denied by the woodwork in the second half and was their most dangerous outlet throughout. Merino struck again three minutes from time, once more ghosting in at the far post to seal a crucial win and keep Arsenal firmly in the title race. Leicester, to their credit, had matched...

Manchester City looking to boost Champions League hopes

Manchester City v West Ham United preview Manchester City kick off their 2025 Premier League campaign with a home fixture against a struggling West Ham United side. Author - Macca The reigning champions have endured a tough spell, winning just one of their previous 13 games across all competitions before last weekend’s trip to the King Power Stadium. However, they managed a much-needed, albeit scrappy, win in the East Midlands, with Savinho playing a starring role.  On paper, a visit from West Ham might seem like a straightforward task for Pep Guardiola’s side, but City’s recent form at the Etihad has been anything but convincing. They’ve managed just one win in their last five home matches and were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Everton in their most recent outing on home soil. As for West Ham, their form had been on the up before a humbling 5-0 defeat to league leaders Liverpool halted their progress. Head coach Julen Lopetegui had been under less pressure in recent weeks,...

He showed great strength to outmuscle Wout Faes and latch onto a long ball, with Enzo Fernandez providing the decisive pass. Jackson coolly finished in the 15th minute to give Chelsea the lead. Fernandez then doubled the advantage, heading home from close range after Leicester keeper Mads Hermansen parried Jackson's initial effort. Leicester managed a consolation deep into stoppage time when Jordan Ayew converted a 95th-minute penalty following Romeo Lavia's foul on Bobby de Cordova-Reid in the box. PL News: Rashford issues statement to Manchester United fans

Image
Following their 4-2 away at Leicester City, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford issued an interesting statement to their fans. The Academy graduate was named in the squad for the first time this season, after missing the start of the campaign while recovering from shoulder surgery.  Marcus entered the field as a second-half substitute and quickly scored his first goal of the season latching onto a pass from Victor Lindelof to calmly finish past Kasper Schmeichel.   The goal made it 2-2 at the King Power Stadium, but unfortunately for United the game quickly slipped away.   Speaking with his millions of followers after the match, Rashford admitted he was pleased to return but ultimately frustrated by a difficult defeat. United's home grown hero posted: “Not the result we wanted on my return. “Happy to get the goal but the performance as a whole was just not good enough today. It felt great to be back but we have to rebound from this.  “I’m looking forwar...

Premier League: A pivotal day in the title race

Image
Saturday 25th February is being seen by many as a very important day in the title race. Here's how Arsenal and Man City got on. Leicester City 0 - 1 Arsenal  A 46th-minute goal by Gabriel Martinelli at the King Power Stadium was enough to maintain Arsenal's advantage over Manchester City.  A defeat against a relegation threatened Everton side earlier this month sparked a winless three-game spell that included a loss to City and threatened to blow them off course, but those memories now appear to have been banished. Arsenal defended well when they needed to. It was then over to Man City. One Arsenal fan told us: "This feels like an important win!" Bournemouth 1 - 4 Man City City never looked in danger of dropping more points once Julian Alvarez put them ahead. Erling Haaland looked back to his best and maintained his goal-a-game ratio by tucking home a close-range second for his 27th top-flight goal of the season to end a relatively lean spell of one in six games....

Premier League: Jamie Vardy returns

Image
Leicester City 1  - 1 Tottenham Hotspur The ever-reliable Jamie Vardy made a memorable return to the Premier League, scoring a goal that helped newly promoted Leicester City secure a draw against Tottenham at the King Power Stadium. At 37 years old, Vardy found the back of the net with Leicester’s first shot on target, heading in a cross from Abdul Fatawu from close range just before the hour mark. Vardy’s goal levelled the match after Pedro Porro had given Spurs the lead in a first half where they completely dominated and should have been out of sight before Vardy’s crucial intervention. Vardy manages to outshine Solanke  All attention had been on Tottenham's new £65 million striker, as Spurs aimed to prove they had the firepower to challenge for a top-four spot. However, it was a 37-year-old veteran who ended up stealing the show. Dominic Solanke is the player Spurs are counting on to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich last year. Although he couldn...

EFL: Another twist in the promotion race

Image
Leicester City 1 - 1 Ipswich Town Jeremy Sarmiento scored a late equaliser against Championship leaders Leicester City at the King Power Stadium and guided his Ipswich team back into the coveted automatic promotion spots. Initially, Leicester seemed on the verge of extending their lead by 10 points , courtesy of an own goal by Leif Davis in the first half. The second half had more excitement, featuring Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen's spectacular save from Wes Burns and Kasey McAteer's valiant effort cleared off the line at the other end. When Hermansen could only parry a Massimo Luongo shot in the area, Brighton loanee Sarmiento seized the opportunity, swiftly scoring a shot that eluded the Danish goalkeeper. This marked the second time in four weeks that Ipswich snatched a late draw against Leicester, following a similar feat on Boxing Day at Portman Road. The draw this time elevated Ipswich above Southampton, reclaiming second place, while Leicester maintained a seven-poi...

Premier League: Leicester City 4 - 2 Manchester United

Image
Leicester City increased the pressure on  Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they ran out deserved winners against Manchester United in a thriller at the King Power Stadium. At one point, United had threatened to steal a point from a dreadful performance but the Foxes rallied to secure their best win of an indifferent start to the season. Watch the highlights from the match courtesy of Leicester's YouTube channel. More thoughts from the match It is inevitable that much focus will be placed on the failings of Manchester United but Leicester City deserve massive credit for a performance that saw them back to their best after a relatively poor start to the Premier League season.  The presence of Jonny Evans amongst the defence provided reassurance and quality while Iheanacho put in a great performance against Harry Maguire. The United captain put in a error-strewn display on his return from injury. Where next for Ole? Pressure has certainly increased on the United manager. They now ...
