Premier League Preview - MCFC v Leicester preview

Pep Guardiolaā€™s side secured their customary place in the FA Cup semi-finals with a weekend win over Bournemouth, while Leicester have had a fortnight to reflect on another dismal Premier League defeat.

Despite a turbulent 2024-25 campaign, City have maintained their dominance in domestic cup competitions, reaching their seventh consecutive FA Cup semi-final. Meanwhile, Leicester, who stormed to the Championship title under Enzo Maresca last season, have struggled to adapt to the top flight. Alongside Ipswich Town and Southampton, they find themselves adrift at the bottom of the table.

The Foxes have endured a miserable run of six straight league defeats without scoring, shipping 16 goals in the process. Their latest setback (a 3-0 home loss to Manchester United )marked a seventh successive defeat at the King Power Stadium, further highlighting the widening gap between the Premier Leagueā€™s elite and the struggling newcomers.

Now facing the daunting task of a trip to Manchester, Leicester will bring the leagueā€™s worst away defensive record with them, having conceded 35 goals in 14 matches on the road.

Despite their dire form, Ruud van Nistelrooyā€™s side can draw some encouragement from their shock January victory at Tottenham, when second-half goals from Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss secured an unlikely win. However, with City in need of points to cement their top-four status, another upset seems a tall order.

Last time between Manchester City and Leicester

The last time they met was when City travelled to Leicester in the Premier League in December. Goals from Savinho and Erling Haaland confirmed a 2-0 win for Guardiola's side.

Savinho put them ahead on the 21 minute mark after a delightful string of passes between Kevin De Bruyne, Rico Lewis and Phil Foden.

Despite the Foxes threatening for an equaliser, Haaland sealed their fate with a rocketing header after 74 minutes.

The triumph ended a run of eight away games without a win, as well as a run of five matches without victory. It was a perfect end to 2024 after those difficult few matches, and there was no better way to mark Guardiolaā€˜s 500th game in charge of the Club.
