Casemiro then missed a clear opportunity to score when he headed wide of an open net before halftime.  However, he later made amends by equalizing for United. Premier League: Fernandes shines for Man United

Manchester United 4 - 2 Sheffield United Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes scored twice to ensure that another chaotic performance ended with a victory against relegation-threatened Sheffield United.  With the visitors taking the lead twice, The Red Devils were on the verge of a humiliating loss to a team that had only won three times this season Fernandes levelled from the penalty spot before driving Manchester United in front from 25 yards nine minutes from time. Four minutes later, the Portuguese created a first goal since February for striker Rasmus Hojlund. This moved his side up to sixth spot and earned praise from his manager and many fans inside Old Trafford. Harry Maguire  had previously levelled the score to make it 1-1.   Despite a much-improved performance from Sheffield United, you'd still have to say Manchester United deserved this win. They looked more of a threat going forward and a bit more quality could have seen the home side easily score 7 or 8.  F

FA Cup: United avoid upset in Wales

Newport County 2 - 4 Manchester United Newport County's FA Cup journey came to an end in the Fourth Round, with Manchester United securing a 4-2 victory at Rodney Parade. It was so nearly a huge upset though.  The Red Devils took control early on, with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo (his first for the club) within the first twelve minutes. Bryn Morris's late first-half strike and Will Evans' equaliser for County just after the restart kept the game alive.  However, late finishes from Antony and Rasmus Højlund secured United's place in the next round of the competition where they will face an away match against Forest or Bristol City. Premier League: Man United held at home

Manchester United 0 - 0 Southampton Manchester United suffered a frustrating 0-0 draw against Southampton at Old Trafford, after Casemiro was sent off in the first half. The Brazilian midfielder was given his marching orders for a challenge on Carlos Alcaraz. Referee Anthony Taylor initially held up a yellow card, before a VAR check persuaded him it was serious foul play. The home side's best chance of the game fell to Bruno Fernandes. His curling effort forced Saints goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu to make a great save to force it onto the post. United Review: Reds held against Southampton  David De Gea’s heroics helped to keep the game goalless. He first denied Theo Walcott in the first half with an incredible reflex save from close range.  United started off with a series of quick counterattacks. The best of those came when Antony tried to find the run of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the right-back’s cross was easily dealt with by the opposition defence.  The away side managed to create

Premier League: Man United fight back against Brentford

Manchester United 2 - 1 Brentford The Red Devils came from behind to claim a vital win over Brentford at Old Trafford, easing the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag. Author - Olivia T United found themselves trailing at half-time after Ethan Pinnock headed Brentford into the lead in controversial fashion, with the goal coming while Matthijs de Ligt was off the pitch receiving treatment for a head injury. However, early in the second half, a stunning goal from Alejandro Garnacho ended United’s 316-minute Premier League goal drought with a stunning first-time strike from Marcus Rashford’s cross, bringing the home side level. The decisive moment came in the 62nd minute when Rasmus Højlund latched onto a brilliant flicked pass from Bruno Fernandes, expertly chipping the ball over the onrushing Brentford goalkeeper, Mark Flekken, to secure the win for United. Premier League: United and Liverpool play out another chaotic classic

Manchester United 2 - 2 Liverpool "I genuinely feared that we'd be beaten heavily by Liverpool again. I was pleasantly surprised by the result, especially after the first 45 minutes." Those words were sent to us by Liam, a Manchester United Season Ticket holder . He was in the Stretford End as United drew with Liverpool for the second time in the Premier League this season.  How did the drama unfold? Liverpool missed the chance to climb to the top of the Premier League in another thrilling match at Old Trafford. Manager Jurgen Klopp and his players will be left wondering how they failed to avenge the FA Cup quarter-final loss last month. The Anfield side missed numerous chances and were dominating the hosts for long periods. The away side only had a Luis Diaz strike to show for almost total first-half superiority in which they had 15 shots to none from United. The United boss Erik Ten Hag would have been thankful for the visitors' wastefulness and saves from keeper

Premier League: United dominate under Old Trafford floodlights

Manchester United 2 - 0 Tottenham Hotspur United produced their finest performance under manager Erik ten Hag. It was only the brilliance of Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris denied them the truly emphatic victory they deserved.  Fred broke the deadlock two minutes after the break, his shot carrying a degree of good fortune as Lloris was finally beaten by Ben Davies' deflection.  It was no more than United deserved for a display high on quality and intensity. United moved out of sight after 69 minutes when Bruno Fernandes curled a precise right-foot finish beyond the stretching Lloris in front of an noisy and excited Stretford End.  What a win! PL: Man United drop more points

Manchester United 0 - 0 Watford Manchester United dropped two more points in their quest for a Champions League place and left the pitch to boos after being frustrated by the lowly visitors, despite dominating the game at Old Trafford. The Red Devils had 22 shots against Watford but on the only time they found the net, Cristiano Ronaldo was offside. Ronaldo then hit a post and struck team-mate Anthony Elanga with a goal-bound shot. Elanga himself failed to provide the finish to a flowing move, while Bruno Fernandes couldm't capitalise on two excellent first-half opportunities. --- You can watch the highlights of the match in the video below. Euro 2024: Portugal guarantee top spot

Image
Turkey 0-3 Portugal Portugal secured their spot in the last 16 as group winners at Euro 2024 with a straightforward victory over Turkey in Dortmund. Manchester City's Bernardo Silva opened the scoring midway through the first half, deftly placing the ball past goalkeeper Altay Bayindir after Nuno Mendes' cross from the left was deflected into his path. A disastrous own goal doubled Portugal's lead when defender Samet Akaydin, without looking up, passed the ball back to Bayindir, who was unable to stop it from rolling into his own net. This blunder dampened the spirits of the enthusiastic Turkish supporters, who had arrived at the stadium in droves from the city centre, proudly waving their flags. Portugal's fans, though less in number, were just as spirited and celebrated as their team played with confidence and style. The victory was sealed when Cristiano Ronaldo selflessly set up Bruno Fernandes for a simple tap-in to make it 3-0 before the hour mark. The 2016 c

They were put out of their misery and dumped out of the Europa League quarter-finals following a dreadful second-leg performance in defeat by Sevilla. United were well below their best as they exited Europe with a whimper. PL: Fernandes shines as Man United beat Leeds

Leeds United 2 - 4 Manchester United Let's check all the reaction as Manchester United survived a second-half scare to win 4-2 at Elland Road. Substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga both found the net in the final 20 minutes. United went into a two-nil lead before the break thanks to goals from Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes. However, Leeds responded in the second half. Quickfire goals from both Rodrigo and Raphinha had pulled Marcelo Bielsa's side level before Fred and Elanga ensured all three points returned to Old Trafford. It was Leeds who carved open the first real chance of the game after just five minutes, as Mateusz Klich cleverly found Jack Harrison unmarked with a lofted through pass. He failed to trouble David De Gea and fired his effort wide of the mark. Premier League: Antony shines for Man United

Image
Nottingham Forest 0 - 2 Manchester United Manchester United gave their Champions League hopes a huge lift.  Antony scored and set up a Diogo Dalot goal to lead their injury-hit side to a 2-0 victory at Nottingham Forest on Sunday as Erik ten Hag's side climbed to third place. Man United have 59 points from 30 games, three points in front of fourth-placed Newcastle and six ahead of Spurs. A closer look at how United took home the three points. Alongside Bruno Fernandes, Eriksen helped United dominate the first half with Jadon Sancho and Fernandes having early chances. After Antony's opener, it took an inspired performance from Navas and some wasteful finishing to keep Forest in the match. Fernandes saw his free header sail just wide on the stroke of half-time and then the Portuguese midfielder had a curling effort tipped onto the post by Navas after the restart. This win was the perfect response to United's disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Sevilla in the Europa League.

Premier League: Missed opportunities for Man United

Image
Crystal Palace 0 - 0 Manchester United Manchester United missed several big chances in their goalless draw at Selhurst Park in the Premier League. Fresh from their 7-0 EFL Cup win over Barnsley on Tuesday , Ten Hag's side cut Palace open at will in a dominant first half. Alejandro Garnacho, who replaced Marcus Rashford in the starting XI, had an early shot saved by the goalkeeper before Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez were denied by the home goalkeeper Dean Henderson's feet. The visitors continued to pile on the pressure with Garnacho sweeping against the bar after being played in down the left. The rebound fell to Bruno Fernandes, who was often the orchestrator for the Reds. His effort bounced off the pitch before it clipped the top of the bar. The home side eventually grew into the half and came closest when Eberechi Eze slotted into the hands of Andre Onana when unmarked on the penalty spot. The second half was definitely more even. Fernandes curled wide before a

Premier League: Everton pay the penalty

Manchester United 2 - 0 Everton Manchester United halted their two-game losing streak by securing victory over Everton at Old Trafford through first-half penalties converted by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. https://t.co/qfMpbyVToc pic.twitter.com/7TtUTl4f61 — European Super Football (@ESFootballNews) March 11, 2024 In a peculiar match, Everton became the fifth team in six Premier League games to muster at least 20 shots against Erik ten Hag's side, yet their wastefulness and defensive lapses cost them dearly. Both James Tarkowski and Ben Godfrey received yellow cards for reckless challenges on Alejandro Garnacho. Fernandes calmly dispatched the first penalty, directing a precise low shot to Jordan Pickford's left corner. Despite the skipper passing on the second penalty to Rashford, the latter confidently sent Pickford the wrong way for his seventh goal of the season. Following defeats against Fulham and Manchester City, the win brought United within three points

Nations League: Heartbreak for Scotland again

Image
Portugal 2 - 1 Scotland Cristiano Ronaldo’s late winner shattered Scottish hopes in Portugal, continuing Steve Clarke’s team's miserable run of form. Video and pictures from the European Super Football YouTube Scotland stunned everyone by taking a surprise lead in the seventh minute with a header from Scott McTominay, and they defended resolutely against Portugal’s 16 shots before half-time. However, another mistake cost them the lead. Angus Gunn failed to stop a long-range effort from Bruno Fernandes after the break, letting the ball slip into the net. Ronaldo, who came on at half-time, struck the post twice before finally breaking through, tapping in a brilliant cross from Nuno Mendes for his 901st career goal. The defeat, coming on the back of a loss to Poland on Thursday, means Scotland have now gone eight competitive games without a win —the worst run in their history—and have won just one of their last 14 matches. Despite this, Clarke might find some hope in how his
