Rangers fans had barely finished celebrating what they thought was a late equaliser from Cyriel Dessers, whose superb 88th-minute strike found the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

However, Fernandes quickly silenced the visiting supporters, latching onto Lisandro Martínez's pinpoint cross to the far post and driving a first-time shot through Jack Butland's legs.

In the directors' box, legendary former United manager – and ex-Rangers striker – Sir Alex Ferguson could only shake his head at the thrilling finale.

The dramatic conclusion ensured the match wouldn’t be remembered solely for Butland's unfortunate own goal. The Rangers goalkeeper attempted to punch away Christian Eriksen's corner in the 52nd minute but inadvertently sent the ball into his own net.

UEFA Europa League and Conference League: 24/25

United showed real character, bouncing back just days after head coach Rúben Amorim had described them as "perhaps the worst team in Manchester United history."

For Rangers, it was a heart-breaking way to continue their poor away form, with Philippe Clement's side still without a win on the road since 8 December. They remain in 13th, dropping into the play-off spots. To secure automatic qualification for the last 16, they must beat Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise at Ibrox next week and hope other results go in their favour.

As for United, now sitting fourth in the table, a win against Romanian side FCSB will see them secure a spot in the last 16.

Manchester United may not have been playing at their best, but the crucial aspect is the result. They need to rise in the league standings and advance in Europe; a draw, despite their dominance, would have raised further questions.

Cyril Dessers believed he had secured a point for Rangers with a late goal in what would have been a remarkable comeback, but Bruno Fernandes once again came through for United.

In terms of individual performances, Alejandro Garnacho delivered a great performance which resulted in fans singing his name. The almost always classy Eriksen was another bright light for United.

This was supported by Olivia T, who added: "Bruno was superb again. He helped battle to that win against Arsenal and was there against Rangers. I really hope he carries on this form. He could lead us to Europa League glory."
