Premier League: Fernandes shines for Man United

 Manchester United 4 - 2 Sheffield United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes scored twice to ensure that another chaotic performance ended with a victory against relegation-threatened Sheffield United.

With the visitors taking the lead twice, The Red Devils were on the verge of a humiliating loss to a team that had only won three times this season

Fernandes levelled from the penalty spot before driving Manchester United in front from 25 yards nine minutes from time.

Four minutes later, the Portuguese created a first goal since February for striker Rasmus Hojlund. This moved his side up to sixth spot and earned praise from his manager and many fans inside Old Trafford. Harry Maguire had previously levelled the score to make it 1-1.

Despite a much-improved performance from Sheffield United, you'd still have to say Manchester United deserved this win. They looked more of a threat going forward and a bit more quality could have seen the home side easily score 7 or 8.

Introducing Ethan Wheatley

One of the highlights of the match from a Manchester United perspective came when Ethan Wheatley became the 250th academy graduate to feature for Manchester United's first team. He stepped onto the pitch when his side were 4-2 up. The previous night, Wheatley had starred for United's U18s and secured a trophy with a 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester City.

An interesting stat that Sheffield United fans won't like

Sheffield United have now conceded 92 goals, overtaking Derby's previous record of 89 in a 38-game season. The Premier League record of 100 - set by Swindon in a 42-game season in 1993-94, might yet be passed. They have now conceded 26 goals in their past eight games.

Highlights

Let's explore some of the best reaction

Liam, a Manchester United Season Ticket holder, told us: "We got there in the end. That was a decent win. Bruno was superb. The highlights for me were Hojlund's goal and Ethan Wheatley's debut. He looks great in the under-18s, and we need our youth now! The future is still bright, even if it has been a poor season."

Olivia, a Manchester United fan living in Didsbury, said: "Great to see Rasmus Hojlund back on the scoresheet. Bruno Fernandes was superb again. He is our best player by far and a true leader for the squad. Despite many people saying otherwise, I did think we missed Marcus Rashford against Sheffield United. I'm not sure Antony is the answer."

Peter, a Sheffield United fan, was in the away end. He told us: "During a season full of disappointment for Bramall Lane, one of the clear highlights was this match. Although it's unlikely we will return to Old Trafford in the Premier League next season, our fans will never forget the effort the players put in for this match. I do have to ask, where was this level of performance earlier in the season?"
