United believe the bid represents fair value for the 22-year-old Slovenia international, who is thought to be open to the move. Newcastle United have also made an approach for Sesko, but their offer is yet to be accepted.
The formal bid marks a shift in United’s approach, amid previous suggestions they were reluctant to table an offer without clarity over the player’s willingness to join. Sources at Old Trafford believe that hurdle has now been cleared, and the club are prepared to part ways with Rasmus Højlund to create space in the squad.
Sesko has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig and, standing at 6ft 5in, would add considerable presence to United’s forward line. Despite ongoing financial constraints, the club is confident it can structure a deal within its means.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe warned earlier this year that the club risked financial peril without significant cost-cutting, but United are understood to have arranged staggered payments for summer targets Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, totalling £130m.
Marcus Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages are being fully covered by his loan spell at Barcelona, and United recently received £5m in compensation from Chelsea following the collapse of a deal for Jadon Sancho. Further income has been generated via sell-on clauses, with over £15m recouped through the departures of Anthony Elanga, Álvaro Carreras and Maxi Oyedele.
While still early in the window, United’s pursuit of Sesko signals clear intent as they look to reshape their attack and reinforce Erik ten Hag’s options ahead of the new season.
