Having trailed 3-2 from the first leg, Melvine Malard’s early goal offered encouragement that United might yet reach the semi-finals in their debut season. They were the sharper side before the interval, but Bayern assumed control after the break, with Glodis Viggosdottir and Linda Dallmann scoring in the final 10 minutes to turn the tie decisively in the German side’s favour.
The result sends Bayern through to the last four for a third time, while Marc Skinner’s side must regroup ahead of a crucial run-in, with more than three weeks to recover before attention returns to securing qualification via the Women’s Super League.
United had set out to become the first English side to win away at Bayern in the competition and began with purpose at the Allianz Arena. Malard tested Ena Mahmutovic inside four minutes, the goalkeeper producing a fine save, and the forward soon had her reward. When Mahmutovic rushed out to deal with Jayde Riviere’s through ball, a ricochet off her own defender left Malard with a simple finish into an empty net.
The visitors continued to threaten, with Mahmutovic again called upon to turn another Malard effort around the post. Bayern, uncharacteristically loose in possession during the first half, struggled to impose themselves.
Nice to have some Champions League football back at Old Trafford. A decent performance. Just a pity we couldn't hold out for a result. viewfromkstand.blogspot.com/2026/03/unit...

The pattern shifted markedly after the interval
Bayern pinned United back for long spells, forcing them into a rearguard effort. Phallon Tullis-Joyce made an important save to deny Pernille Harder after a sharp turn in the box, while Millie Turner produced a crucial block to thwart Giulia Gwinn during a frantic goalmouth scramble.
The pressure eventually told nine minutes from time. Viggosdottir met Carolin Simon’s corner with a firm header that Tullis-Joyce could not keep out. Within minutes, the tie was settled as Dallmann drove the ball high into the net after another Viggosdottir effort had been cleared off the line by Malard.
Bayern can now turn their attention to a likely semi-final against Barcelona, the three-time winners holding a commanding first-leg advantage over Real Madrid in their quarter-final.
