English football ~ 24/25 run in - Premier League | Man United v Wolves

The contrast with United’s midweek display against Lyon could hardly have been starker. This latest defeat was their 15th of the season, eclipsing last year’s total and marking their worst campaign since 1989–90, when they lost 16 times.

Ruben Amorim’s side have now been beaten at home by Wolves, joining Crystal Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest in claiming three points at Old Trafford since the Portuguese manager took charge in November.

United have collected just nine points from their past ten league outings. In that stretch, their only victories have come against Leicester and Ipswich, both of whom are in the relegation zone.

Rasmus Højlund came close to equalising, narrowly failing to connect with Alejandro Garnacho’s low cross at the far post. The Dane has now scored only once in his last 28 appearances.

While Amorim has yet to arrest United’s decline, VĂtor Pereira has overseen a remarkable turnaround at Wolves. Once entangled in a relegation scrap, they are now mathematically safe with five matches remaining and trail United only on goal difference.

Academy players are positives for Amorim

There were some small elements of positivity, which chiefly came through the mature performances of youngsters Harry Amass and, on his debut, 20-year-old central defender Tyler Fredricson. The teenage forward Chido Obi also came on but United's lack of creativity was evident as, like Rasmus Hojlund, they struggled to create meaningful opportunities for him.

More joy for Wolves

This was fourth away league win in a row ans was a masterclass in containment, and striking when the opportunity arose. They'll be looking enviously at teams like Nottingham Forest competing to qualify for  Champions League football and will believe, that with a few signings, they'll be able to pish for the top 8 next season.

United reaction from Liam C

Liam, a Manchester United fan and European Super Football contributor, said: "Well, that wasn't very good. I felt there was an opportunity to build on that momentum from Thursday night, but it wasn't to be."

"That being said, I don't think many people will be too bothered with another defeat. Especially, if the season finishes with us winning the Europa League. If we don't win that, then I think serious questions need to be asked about everyone associated with the club, players and manager included. Finishing 14th- 17th place is just not good enough."
