English football ~ 24/25 run in - Premier League | Brentford v Manchester United

Mason Mount opened the scoring for the visitors, netting only his second goal for the club after latching on to an inviting cross from Alejandro Garnacho.

The hosts levelled through a stroke of fortune, as Mikkel Damsgaard’s delivery deflected off Luke Shaw and past goalkeeper Altay Bayındır. Shaw, captaining a much-changed United side, was helpless to prevent the own goal.

Brentford then edged in front six minutes later in contentious circumstances. Kevin Schade rose above Tyler Fredricson to nod home his tenth of the season with a towering header. United were incensed that play had not been halted moments earlier, when Matthijs de Ligt appeared to go down injured in the build-up.

Schade struck again midway through the second half, steering in a second from close range after good work down the flank by Bryan Mbeumo.

The Bees extended their lead to 4-1 with a slick move that cut through United’s defence, culminating in Yoane Wissa slotting past Bayındır after being slipped in by Michael Kayode.

Garnacho offered a glimmer of hope for the visitors with a spectacular long-range strike eight minutes from time, before Amad Diallo reduced the deficit further deep into stoppage time. His goal, five minutes into seven added, set up a tense finale.

Despite the late pressure, Brentford held on for the three points. The result lifts them to ninth in the Premier League table, one point off Bournemouth in eighth. United, meanwhile, remain 15th with just three matches remaining.

One Brentford even told us: "Best away support I've seen in years."

A Brentford fan analyses the win and the impact on their season.

We caught with Peter, a Brentford fan, who was delighted with another win and how it improved the chances of qualifying for European football.

"I may have to eat my words about Brentford's chances of qualifying for Europe. I didn't think the Bees would finish high enough in the table for Europe. However, these wins against Nottingham Forest and Manchester United have made it a real possibility. We have hit form at just the right time.

"That win at Forest was our best result and performance of the season - especially keeping a clean sheet. To follow that quick turnaround by putting four past an albeit slightly weaker than normal Manchester United team was no mean feat."
