Premier League: Diallo and Mainoo shine for Man United

Image
Manchester United 3 - 2 Newcastle United  The Old Trafford side kept alive their chances of qualifying for European football through their league position with a hard fought win over Newcastle United. Kobbie Mainoo put Manchester United just after 31 minutes when he applied the finish from 10 yards after being played onside by Kieran Trippier. Anthony Gordon levelled for the away side four minutes after half side. At this point, Newcastle were on top again. Manchester United had needed a brilliant tackle from Sofyan Amrabat to stop Newcastle taking the lead as Alexander Isak failed to finish a three-on-one counter. Manchester United back in front Amad Diallo helped the home side regain the lead as he drove home just before the hour mark as Newcastle failed to clear a corner to put Manchester United back in front. A few moments later, Eddie Howe’s visitors were inches away from an equaliser as Miguel Almiron just failed to turn home a low cross from the excellent Gordon at the far p

Manchester United 4 - 0 Tottenham Hotspur Manchester United clinched their first  Women’s  FA Cup trophy in an impressive display, comfortably overcoming first-time finalists Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium. Ella Toone, an England international, delivered a breathtaking goal just before half-time, setting the tone for the match. Spurs struggled to recover, and United further solidified their lead in the second half with goals from Rachel Williams and Lucia Garcia. This victory marked  United's  second consecutive appearance in the final, demonstrating their resilience after last  year's  disappointing loss to Chelsea.  The triumph  not only  brings home their first  major   women's  trophy  but also  marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the club. Premier League: Title race will go to final day

Image
Manchester United 0 - 1 Arsenal Arsenal ensured the title race will go to the final day with victory over a depleted Manchester United side at Old Trafford. The Gunners display was often unconvincing here but they got the job done. Their manager will be pleased with how they have kept the pressure on Manchester Citty. The only goal of the game came when Leandro Trossard struck after 20 minutes. Lazy defending from struggling veteran Casemiro played Kai Havertz onside, his cross was then turned in by the Belgian at the near post. Manchester United showed plenty of effort and endeavor. However, they suffered from a glaring lack of quality. The Red Devils never seriously tested Arsenal keeper David Raya, as their own hopes of European football next season faded further.  It's looking increasingly likely that they will only qualify for Europe if they beat Manchester City in the upcoming Fa Cup final. What impact will this have on the title race? Arsenal must now hope north London

Jean-Philippe Mateta then surged beyond Johnny Evans with relative ease to finish emphatically for his sixth goal in a row in his home stadium. Palace fans were in disbelief at this point.  Palace eased to victory in the second-half  Tyrick Mitchell tapped in from close range after a great cross by Adam Wharton in the 58th minute. The French youngster Olise then capitalised on a Casemiro mistake to score against the United keeper Onana. This was a new low for Manchester United's season. They now face a battle to qualify

Premier League: Another strange performance from Manchester United

Image
Manchester United 1 - 1 Burnley Zeki Amdouni scored a late penalty to grab what could he a priceless point for relegation-threatened Burnley in the Premier League at Old Trafford. Despite another unconvincing display from Manchester United, they did look well set for victory thanks to Antony's well-taken 79th-minute effort. Then Burnley got a penalty  Although the referee John Brooks managed to miss the foul in real time, unlike against Wolves the video assistant referee, Peter Bankes, stepped in. Substitute Amdouni managed to send the keeper the wrong way and earn Burnley this point  This result moved Burnley to within two points of fourth-bottom Nottingham Forest, whom they play at Turf Moor on the final day of the season.  There could still be a dramatic fight for survival with Burnley, Luton and Forest all scrambling to avoid relegation to the Championship.  You can watch the highlights of the match in the video below. Premier League: Fernandes shines for Man United

Image
Manchester United 4 - 2 Sheffield United Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes scored twice to ensure that another chaotic performance ended with a victory against relegation-threatened Sheffield United.  With the visitors taking the lead twice, The Red Devils were on the verge of a humiliating loss to a team that had only won three times this season Fernandes levelled from the penalty spot before driving Manchester United in front from 25 yards nine minutes from time. Four minutes later, the Portuguese created a first goal since February for striker Rasmus Hojlund. This moved his side up to sixth spot and earned praise from his manager and many fans inside Old Trafford. Harry Maguire  had previously levelled the score to make it 1-1.   Despite a much-improved performance from Sheffield United, you'd still have to say Manchester United deserved this win. They looked more of a threat going forward and a bit more quality could have seen the home side easily score 7 or 8.  F

For the repeat of last year’s final between the same teams , the match has been brought forward from 17:30 BST. Last year’s final between the two was the first all-Manchester FA Cup final, with Pep Guardiola's side winning 2-1 on their way to a Treble. In 2023, the match was moved to the same time following police advice. This was the first final to take place at that time in twelve years. Many fans were happy with this as they believed it is the best time for important football matches.  How did the teams reach the FA Cup final?

FA Cup: United win on penalties

Image
Manchester United 3 - 3 Coventry City Manchester United won 4-2 on penalties  United somehow progressed to the FA Cup final for the second successive season, following a dramatic semi-final victory over Coventry City. The Reds edged past the Sky Blues on penalties after a crazy and eventful 120 minutes to set up a rematch of last year's final, against Manchester City. Following goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes, United appeared to be in total and complete control. Despite having a few chances, it did look like this was one match too far for Coventry. However, goals Ellis Simms and O'Hare reduced the deficit and made things very nervy for Ten Hag's side. Then in stoppage time, Haji Wright kept his nerve in stoppage time to score from the spot and send the game into extra time. Many Manchester United fans were furious at this point.  Disgraceful performance from #mufc https://t.co/sibOvrXJB0 pic.twitter.com/dPV06sMrkJ — Jay Dee (@JDESFNews)

Image
Manchester United Women 2 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur Women In a thrilling showdown that served as a preview for next month's FA Cup final, Maya le Tissier came to the rescue for Manchester United, denying Spurs their first-ever victory over the Reds. Le Tissier, fresh from signing a new contract, nodded in a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser amidst a crowded penalty area, capitalising after Rachel Williams rattled the crossbar. Spurs seemed destined for a historic win after quickfire goals from Bethany England and Jessica Naz overturned Melvine Malard's opener for United at Leigh Sports Village. At the end of the match, Le Tissier's timely intervention salvaged a point for United.  Click here for women's football news and stories Malard broke the deadlock by meeting Gemma Evans' lofted free-kick with a powerful header, but England's equaliser, although disputed, and Naz's clinical finish threatened to steal the show for Spurs. However, their appointments are not yet finalised.  United are aware that they need to address key areas in

Premier League: Man United drop points again

Image
AFC Bournemouth 2 - 2 Manchester United Manchester United's hopes of securing European football were dented again after they dropped one place to seventh following Newcastle United's 4-0 win over Tottenham earlier in the day.  They are currently two points clear of West Ham United having played one game less. They're 6 points ahead of Chelsea, however, the London side has played two games fewer.  A brief match report Bournemouth's positive start was rewarded by Dominic Solanke's goal in the 16th minute. Solanke got the better of Willy Kambwala and finished the ball confidently, low into the corner of the net. This goal motivated the home side further, as they continued to dominate the proceedings.  The home team missed several opportunities to score, and they ultimately paid the price when Fernandes scored from a pass by Alejandro Garnacho. Kluivert quickly restored the hosts' lead five minutes later with a straightforward pass from Marcos Senesi that exp

Premier League: United and Liverpool play out another chaotic classic

Image
Manchester United 2 - 2 Liverpool "I genuinely feared that we'd be beaten heavily by Liverpool again. I was pleasantly surprised by the result, especially after the first 45 minutes." Those words were sent to us by Liam, a Manchester United Season Ticket holder . He was in the Stretford End as United drew with Liverpool for the second time in the Premier League this season.  How did the drama unfold? Liverpool missed the chance to climb to the top of the Premier League in another thrilling match at Old Trafford. Manager Jurgen Klopp and his players will be left wondering how they failed to avenge the FA Cup quarter-final loss last month. The Anfield side missed numerous chances and were dominating the hosts for long periods. The away side only had a Luis Diaz strike to show for almost total first-half superiority in which they had 15 shots to none from United. The United boss Erik Ten Hag would have been thankful for the visitors' wastefulness and saves from keeper

He dribbled through Brazil's defence before finishing with a curling left-foot shot to give Spain a 2-0 lead in a 3-3 draw at the home of Real Madrid.  United are assessing targets across Europe for attacking and creative options, and Olmo may be of interest depending on their budget and departures in the summer. The Red Devils are also in the market for a forward, centre-back and full-back this summer plus a ce

Image
Let's explore another transfer rumour Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.  United are looking to sign a holding midfielder this summer and they have identified the £40million-rated Gomes as someone who can take them forward. Gomes has been watched by United on several occasions this season, most recently earlier this month when Wolves beat Fulham 2-1 at Molineux in the Premier League. Premier League news and stories: 2023/2024 Premier League: Wolves and Man United play out a classic  Wolves are aware there will be interest in Gomes over the next few months. One of his standout performances came when his side beat Treble winners Manchester City 2-1 earlier this season and scored both goals in a win by the same scoreline over Spurs last month. FA Cup: United and Liverpool play out a classic

Image
Manchester United 4 - 3 Liverpool Manchester United secured their spot in the FA Cup semi-final after a dramatic 4-3 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford. Before the game, everyone was talking about how strong Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool team was, but from the start, it was United who came out swinging with some serious attacking moves. Just 10 minutes in, Alejandro Garnacho took a shot that got deflected, Caoimhin Kelleher tried to save it, but it ended up right in the path of Scott McTominay. Old Trafford erupted.  Liverpool fought back hard , and just before halftime, they managed to sneak in a couple of goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah, putting them at half-time. The second half was tense, with both teams hunting for that next crucial goal. It wasn't until the home side made some attacking changes, thanks to Ten Hag's tactical moves, that the home side started to put some pressure. They finally found the equaliser. Antony, coming off the bench, save

Premier League: Everton pay the penalty

Manchester United 2 - 0 Everton Manchester United halted their two-game losing streak by securing victory over Everton at Old Trafford through first-half penalties converted by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. https://t.co/qfMpbyVToc pic.twitter.com/7TtUTl4f61 — European Super Football (@ESFootballNews) March 11, 2024 In a peculiar match, Everton became the fifth team in six Premier League games to muster at least 20 shots against Erik ten Hag's side, yet their wastefulness and defensive lapses cost them dearly. Both James Tarkowski and Ben Godfrey received yellow cards for reckless challenges on Alejandro Garnacho. Fernandes calmly dispatched the first penalty, directing a precise low shot to Jordan Pickford's left corner. Despite the skipper passing on the second penalty to Rashford, the latter confidently sent Pickford the wrong way for his seventh goal of the season. Following defeats against Fulham and Manchester City, the win brought United within three points

Premier League: United lose on Derby Day

However, Foden equalised just before the hour mark with a stunning goal, before scoring again late in the game, followed by a goal from Erling Haaland in injury time. Before the match, Coach Ten Hag stressed the importance of United dominating the midfield and exploiting the pace of their attackers against City's high defensive line. This led to Bruno Fernandes playing in an unusual false-nine role. Fernandes played a key role in setting up Rashford's goal early on, but United missed opportunities to extend their lead.
