Narrow win for Liverpool on derby day
Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the season with a fifth consecutive victory, defeating Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Arne Slot’s team asserted themselves early as Ryan Gravenberch opened the scoring with a deft lob from Mohamed Salah’s pass inside 10 minutes. The Dutch midfielder then turned creator shortly before the half-hour, threading a pass through for Hugo Ekitike to finish low beyond Jordan Pickford. Everton gradually found their footing and were rewarded just before the hour. Jack Grealish’s cross was met by Iliman Ndiaye, who laid the ball back for Idrissa Gueye to lash home a rising strike that left Alisson with no chance.
Crystal Palace deepened the pressure on Graham Potter with a victory at West Ham.
Jean-Philippe Mateta struck first in the 37th minute, reacting quickest to nod home after Alphonse Areola had tipped Marc Guehi’s header against the bar.
The hosts responded early in the second half when Jarrod Bowen peeled away from his marker to head in from El Hadji Malick Diouf’s corner. For a spell West Ham looked the likelier to score again. Lucas Paquetá saw an effort scrambled off the line by Chris Richards and Kyle Walker-Peters squandered two chances. Their failure to convert told when Tyrick Mitchell was left unmarked in the box and dispatched a crisp volley that proved decisive.
Pressure eased slightly on Man United boss
United capitalised on Robert Sanchez's fifth-minute red card to secure a crucial victory over Chelsea in torrential rain at Old Trafford.
This was the first match in Premier League history to see two or more goals, red cards and substitutions in the first half was settled by goals from United skipper Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, who was the other player sent off before the break.
Postecoglou's wait for first Forest win goes on
Forest had taken the lead inside two minutes when Neco Williams crashed in a fierce finish, but they were pegged back when Zinchenko diverted Jaidon Anthony’s mishit shot into his own net, though the Burnley winger was credited with the goal.
Postecoglou has already altered the style of this Forest side, who look far more adventurous than under Nuno EspĂrito Santo, but he is still bedding in his ideas after a winless start to the campaign.Iwobi inspires Fulham fightback against Brentford
Alex Iwobi delivered a standout performance with a goal and an assist as Fulham overturned an early deficit to claim their second Premier League win of the campaign.
Brentford struck first when Josh King’s loose pass on the edge of his own box was seized upon by Mikkel Damsgaard, who calmly drilled into the corner. Fulham’s response was swift. Sasa Lukic’s shot looped into a crowded area and Iwobi reacted sharply, driving his effort through the legs of Brentford captain Nathan Collins. Two minutes later he turned provider, threading an incisive ball for Harry Wilson to lash beyond Caoimhin Kelleher.
