UCL: Paris Saint Germain 3 - 2 RB Leipzig

Lionel Messi scored twice as Paris St-Germain came from behind to beat RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Kylian Mbappe had previously put the French side ahead, slamming into the bottom corner on the counter-attack.

However Andre Silva and Nordi Mukiele scored from Angelino crosses to put Leipzig ahead. Messi turned the game around for the home side when he tapped a rebound into an empty net before scoring a Panenka penalty to win the game.

PSG won another penalty deep into extra time, but instead of Messi stepping up for a hat-trick, Mbappe took it instead - and then skied it over the bar.

Messi's three goals since joining PSG as a free agent this summer have come in the Champions League, with the Argentinian legend also scoring in their 2-0 win over Manchester City.

He is now on 123 Champions League goals across his career, with Leipzig the 37th team he has scored against in Europe's premier competition.

Despite the win, PSG were well below their best with only four shots on target, including three from Messi. Their manager Mauricio Pochettino told media after the game: "We don't need to say anything more about the quality of Kylian and Leo.

"In games when you are struggling to find solutions as a team, that is why you need players of their class."

More reaction from a dramatic night

RB Leipzig Head coach Jesse Marsch spoke with the media: "We played well and were in control for the majority of the game. After taking the lead we were in a good position but made a bad mistake. Messi and Mbappe don't need much time or space to score."

He added: ""There are a lot of positives to take away. We were brave and played well out of possession. We created a lot of chances and were also dangerous at set pieces. However, it's a difficult task now without any points."

Leipzig sit bottom of their group after three matches and now face a battle to even qualify for the Europa League.
