Brennan Johnson broke the deadlock with his sixth goal in six games, timing his run perfectly to latch onto Dominic Solanke’s through ball before calmly slotting it past Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen. Verbruggen was then left frustrated as he failed to prevent James Maddison’s curled effort from nestling in the net, despite getting both hands to the low shot, doubling Spurs’ advantage. However, Brighton came out after the interval looking like a different team. They quickly clawed one back early in the second half when Destiny Udogie struggled to clear Kaoru Mitoma's cross, allowing Yankuba Minteh to pounce and score his f...

Premier League: An awful Saturday for Manchester United

Image
Manchester United 0-3 Bournemouth Dominic Solanke's early strike set the stage for Bournemouth's historic triumph at Old Trafford, intensifying the scrutiny on beleaguered Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. Bournemouth secured their first victory at Old Trafford with second-half headers from Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi within a five-minute span, marking a memorable milestone in the club's history. United faced the prospect of an even more dismal outcome, but a late goal by substitute Dango Ouattara was disallowed by the video assistant referee for handball during stoppage time. This defeat comes just three days ahead of United's crucial Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, a match they must win to advance to the last 16. It compounds the woes for Ten Hag, who recently received the Premier League's Manager of the Month award. With seven defeats in 16 league games and an equal number of losses and wins in all competitions, United's form has b...

Greg, a Spurs fan living in Halifax, said: "We put in a fantastic performance. Manchester United were below par, and we took full advantage of that. Delighted with the 3-0 win, although it could have been even more emphatic. Timo Werner should have put away those one-on-one opportunities, and Dominic Solanke also missed a clear chance. Nevertheless, I'm pleased with the team's effort and superb result." Peter watched the match from the home stands Old Trafford. He said...

Premier League: Jamie Vardy returns

Image
Leicester City 1  - 1 Tottenham Hotspur The ever-reliable Jamie Vardy made a memorable return to the Premier League, scoring a goal that helped newly promoted Leicester City secure a draw against Tottenham at the King Power Stadium. At 37 years old, Vardy found the back of the net with Leicester’s first shot on target, heading in a cross from Abdul Fatawu from close range just before the hour mark. Vardy’s goal levelled the match after Pedro Porro had given Spurs the lead in a first half where they completely dominated and should have been out of sight before Vardy’s crucial intervention. Vardy manages to outshine Solanke  All attention had been on Tottenham's new £65 million striker, as Spurs aimed to prove they had the firepower to challenge for a top-four spot. Premier League: Man United drop points again

Image
AFC Bournemouth 2 - 2 Manchester United Manchester United's hopes of securing European football were dented again after they dropped one place to seventh following Newcastle United's 4-0 win over Tottenham earlier in the day.  They are currently two points clear of West Ham United having played one game less. They're 6 points ahead of Chelsea, however, the London side has played two games fewer.  A brief match report Bournemouth's positive start was rewarded by Dominic Solanke's goal in the 16th minute. Solanke got the better of Willy Kambwala and finished the ball confidently, low into the corner of the net. This goal motivated the home side further, as they continued to dominate the proceedings.  The home team missed several opportunities to score, and they ultimately paid the price when Fernandes scored from a pass by Alejandro Garnacho. Kluivert quickly restored the hosts' lead five minutes later with a straightforward pass from Marcos Senesi that exp...

Premier League: Chelsea frustrated again

Image
Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea Fourteen shots and six attempts on target. No goals though. This was another disappointing afternoon for Chelsea.  You'd have to argue that Pochettino needs to solve some of their problems quickly because this is a brand-new team, but everyone knows how quickly the club hires and fires managers. Premier League news and stories: 2023/2024 (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) The away side has now only scored five goals in the Premier League so far this season. Their fewest amount of goals after five games of a top-flight campaign since 1995-96 (5), when they finished 11th. Should they finish in that position again, you can't imagine the Chelsea owners will be very happy.  During this match, Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling both struck the woodwork. The Bournemouth keeper could not be beaten.  Late on, new signing Cole Palmer had a chance to win the game, but he shot straight at Neto. Dominic Solanke headed wide and forced a Robert Sanchez...

Spurs responded swiftly, with Rodrigo Bentancur nodding in a powerful close-range header from Pedro Porro’s pinpoint corner. Moments later, they were handed a golden opportunity to take the lead when Brennan Johnson was brought down by Andre in the box. However, Wolves keeper José Sá guessed correctly, denying Son Heung-min from the spot. The missed penalty didn’t deter Totten ham’s attacking momentum. A slick exchange between Dejan Kulusevski and Johnson in a crowded box ended with Johnson firing a precise low shot into the net to give Spurs the lead. Wolves appoint ex-Porto...

Earlier, defender Evan N'Dicka had drawn Roma level , and Stephan El Shaarawy thought he’d scored with a stunning volley, only for VAR to rule it out for offside. Despite their control, Spur...

Premier League: Man United are now a point from the Champions League

Image
AFC Bournemouth 0 - 1 Manchester United Manchester United are now only a point from the Champions League after Casemiro's stunning overhead kick edged Manchester United a massive step closer.  In a match that was clear-cut opportunities, a piece of magic from Casemiro proved the difference. The midfielder picked up a beautiful pass from Christian Eriksen and turned away from Marcos Senesi before acrobatically hammering home. As was the case against Wolves last week , United lacked urgency against Bournemouth with Dominic Solanke twice going close and David Brooks forcing a fingertip save from De Gea. They were without their top goal scorer this season, Marcus Rashford , and struggled to mount a serious threat for much of the time after their goal.  Wout Weghorst almost scored late on. His strike was punched away by the Bournemouth keeper and kept the score at 1-0. Bruno Fernandes also nearly scoed before that. They managed to see the game out though, and thanks t...

Premier League: Bournemouth carry on impressive form

Image
AFC Bournemouth 2 - 1 Leicester City Gary O'Neil enhanced his credentials to become the next permanent Bournemouth manager after leading his side to victory over Leicester City.  Since succeeding Scott Parker, O'Neil has overseen a five-game unbeaten run. This fine win comes after another outstanding comeback against Nottingham Forest last month. Highlights from  AFC Bournemouth - YouTube Although he plays it down when asked, it is increasingly hard to ignore the body of work he is creating at Bournemouth. In terms of the match, Patson Daka's opener gave Leicester some early control, but they failed to capitalise and had no answer to a rousing reply from Bournemouth in the second half. Philip Billing thrashed home a superb volley to level the scores before Ryan Christie touched in Dominic Solanke's knock-down five minutes later to complete the revival. Jamie Vardy came on from the bench to inject urgency into Leicester's play. He went close with a couple of cro...
